Swifty11, I have to agree with you about the ringfield motors, I bought a Hornby 1980's d49 on eBay, and when I received it it was the worst runner in history. But I recently took it all apart and cleaned the contacts, solder joins and the copper rings, now when I run it, there is a huge improvement, but still a tiny bit jerky during the start. But once you get it running then you wouldn't be able to tell them apart from other Hornby locos.

Just one other thing I forgot to mention, you say that your Hornby 67 draws loads of power from the track. My cure for that is to use the brilliant H&M duette controller for all my old locos. You can change how much power you want to go to the track . I really should stop talking shouldn't I.

I'm hoping to get a 4f for my birthday next month and I'll find one somwhere! My 67 and 92 squadron are incredibly smooth. My flying scotsman and peregrine are train set models and still run like a dream. My 57, 4mt and ivatt (all Bachmann) are good runners but aren't quite as smooth as the Hornby ones.
