  1. Apologies if this isn't strictly the correct place to post. I’m looking for some etched nameplates for my Freightliner Class 08’s (mix of Hornby and Bachmann)

    Namely

    08585 ‘Vicky’

    08624 ‘Rambo’

    08691 ‘Terri’

I’ve had a look on eBay and a quick google search but no success. Does anyone know if any of these have ever been available?

    Thanks in advance.

I got  word today my analogue 90's should be delivered to my local shop on Thursday

Picked mine up from Barry, Gill and Tom at Widnes Model Centre (may or may not have been paid from the wedding budget….)

Very nice models indeed. For me the best  modern image RTR out there at the moment.

    Thanks Guys.

    90036 was the first in DB Schenker ... 90029 followed .... then 90018 ... then 90040 ...

I think ADB968008 was correct in saying 90029 was first. I have the below dates at Toton for (red)repaint dates

    90029 Nov/Dec 2012

    90018 Jan 2013

    90036 Jun 2013

    90040 Dec 15/Jan 2016

    90019 April 2016

    90028 Dec 2018/Jan 2019

    90035 Sep 2019/Oct 2019

    90037 Aug 2020/Sep 2020

I think the pictures of the models so far are the decorated samples, as opposed to the production run, so hopefully any faults will have been rectified before the main production run.

As an aside, I’m really not keen on the Freightliner liveries in real life. Even the current orange one jars from some angles, though the 86s have been spared from it!

The Photos on Rails are of the production version as being sold as an FYI :)

The cab front numbering on 86609 in Freightliner doesn't look to be correct either from what I can find.

Looks like it was painted in around 1999, with the cab front numbers looking to be the same size as the cab side numbers.

    86609, 86635 & 90146, Crewe, June 15th 1999

(Crewe, June 1999 - Not mine, click for more info)

It looks like it carried them like this until mid-2012, when it was given a spruce up of the cab front at which point the numbers moved to the right, with them starting relatively inline with the corner of the ex-headcode box.

    IMG_8043

(Rugeley, May 2012 - Not mine, click for more info)

    86609 Garston

(Garston, November 2012 - Not mine, click for more info)

It then carried them like this until withdrawal in 2021. If the pictures of the model I've seen are correct, then the model has the number too far to the left and too small, in a position it never carried.

I know it's a trivial observation, but literally 15 minutes on Flickr threw up plenty of clear images of how it should be. I'm aware that either position wouldn't have appeased everybody depending on what era you model, but on a model pushing 200 notes I expect that something like the numbering to be correctly positioned one way or another.

    Andy.

What I assume were the pre-production photos of the Powerhaul 86622 the cab side numbers appear too bold/big and the logos above them too small.

Had asked the question as to whether the production versions would be different but yet to receive a response.

Hoping it’s just my eyes mind…

Or RSS, they can be seen all over the UK working for GBRf and others. for a class that numbered nearly a thousand and carried god knows how many liveries im at a loss as to why Hornby make so few of them, especially as its a good model. They could literally churn them out in different liveries/numbers all year like Lima used to do.

I’ve been waiting for RSS standard liverg too so slightly disappointed to not see it this time round.
I know 08632 is technically an RSS loco but it’s Loram livery pretty much limits it use.

    Hopefully Bachmann will oblige…

Agreed @Squirrel Rail - as good as your work is ... I'd rather send you a Schenker 90 to re-brand into CB Hall (90035) or Lasta Oftaclass (90040) ... or an EWS one, to re-number and make tired/ weathered - or even a Grand Central one, to make into an ex-GC.

    Kat :-)

I too love Jerry’s work, he has completed 2x Powerhaul 90045 90049 (renumber, weather and detail) and 90047 in battered grey with Green door, which I still to do this day think is the finest model I have ever owned.

So much so that I have requested him to do 90043 and 90048 in grey for me :)

Although not in possession of a crystal ball, I would imagine a FL orange one will be in the next batch. At the time of the launch of the 90 and the Powerhaul one, Bachmann talked about their good working relationship with FL. 90042 not long finished off at LNWR was a but daft in my eyes, 90045 or 90049 would have been better choices for that scheme IMHO having carried since 2010.

A toss up between RES, Virgin and EWS as other contenders in my (non-expert) eyes!

    Enjoy your models folks!

    Hi Kat,

    Hope this will do! :)

90044 was released from Arriva Traincare in January 2020.

90014 from Toton in July 2020

90047 from Toton in September 2020

90015 from Arriva Traincare March 2021 - unbranded but still carrying ‘Colchester Castle’ nameplates. Later removed and branding applied at Basford Hall VMF. Received an F exam before testing/reentering service in late May 2021.

90048 admitted to Wolverton 29/03/2021 for corrosion repairs as well as the paint job. Released on 07/06/2021 and it’s place taken by 90010.

To provide a further update on this...

90010 has been released from Wolverton today and should be arriving at Basford Hall around now...

Looks like 90003 has gone in to Wolverton in it’s place.

    Thanks,

    Chris

  9. In the meantime, I caught the 2 latest recipients together last Thursday night working the 4L81 Coatbridge FLT to London Gateway, with the 90’s replaced by diesel traction at Crewe BH.

    90048 leading 90015 through Hartford

Do you know the dates these took place ?

Its just when I video 90s for my YouTube channel i normally write a short description about their recent history and little tit bits like this help to bring it all together - not to worry if you don't know.

    That's good to hear @PM47079

is that being done at Wolverton or Basford Hall ?

I imagine 90013 will be up soon also having gone for wheel turning recently (and had problems getting there i believe)

    Kat :-)

90010 went in to Wolverton the day 90048 was released.

Just as an FYI - None have been painted at Basford Hall but over at Arriva Train Care (ex LNWR)

90015 had it’s logos etc applied at Basford Hall though after being released unbranded (had a heavy exam before coming back in to service)

    Paint jobs as below

    Arriva Traincare Crewe - 90044, 90015

    Toton - 90014, 90047

Wolverton - 90048 with 90010 in progress here.

    Hope this helps! :)

    Thanks,

    Chris

  12. Got mine, really pleased to finally have a Intercity one but I have 1 question regarding the windscreen surrounds. They are finished in Silver/Grey on the front. Is this correct? (I’m not saying it’s not)

Only been able to find pictures of them black but that could be down to weathering etc?

    Many Thanks,

    Chris

  13. Postlady has just dropped mine off. Very impressed with how it looks (not ran yet!)

Ordered 8656 86034 BR Blue (weathered)

A couple of hastily arranged photos with a Bachmann 85 and the previous Heljan 86/6 of which the chunky pantograph is greatly improved on (although I appreciate there are differences in the types)

Weathering doesn't seem too bad, I was worried after seeing the pics on the Hattons site but mine does not appear to have suffered the same fate!

Wasn’t going to but I think the pristine version may also find it’s way here next week :-)

    Hi all,

I wonder if anyone can help me please?

I really like the Orange and Black G&W livery on the Freightliner Class 90s. If Bachmann release one in the future, I have a question. Currently 90014 'Over The RainBow' and 90047 wear the orange and black livery in the updated guise, with 90044 wearing the original version with the centralised Freightliner logo on the bodysides. Can anyone tell me if their are any differences on the chassis or the bodies of ex Greater Anglia Class 90s 90003-90015 that are now with Freightliner and 90047? I ask because if for example Bachmann release 90014 or 90047, could I buy more than one model to create two locos through renumbering and renaming or would that be overlooking some differences between these different batches of the 90s?

Secondly just a thought. The first batch of standard models of Class 90s included 90005, 90037 and 90042. If I ever wanted to could these models be used as base models for resprays to the ex Greater Anglia now Freightliner Class 90s 90003-90015, or are their differences that would mean that this wouldn't be prototypical?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you in advance.

    Kind Regards,

    Danny.

    Hi Danny,

The horn grilles on the ex GA locos are different and the LED lights. I know that Jerry and some other members were looking at the grille option to hopefully have something made up.

    Thanks,

    Chris
