  1. Hi Guys I'm looking for a coal grab, but so far grazing through kit lists etc. drawn a blank. I'd like to use one on the coaling stage Has anyone know of a source , 1/76 scale Thanks
  2. Thanks for the prompt replies Its looks from the photos that they boarded them up pretty quick. The roof on Ruislip is in good condition for its age, which is good as I can just trail some vine over mine, and cover the windows in plasticard, with plenty of rust added.
  3. Hi After acquiring locos with the wrong livery for the date I was modelling a GWR layout, I decided to model a fictitious heritage line . Part of it has a disused junction with signal box. Can anyone remember what BR western region did with disused signal boxes on branch lines ?, the only ones I can remember were demolished to make way for housing or industrial parks Did they board up windows or just leave them to get broken and just let nature take its course. Trying to make my mind up whether to severely distress an old kit , scratch build a ruin thanks
  4. Have you considered using coaxial cable connectors , put a SSMCX socket on the loco and use something like a SSMCX cable plug on a short length of 1.3 mm dia coaxial cable back to the tender. They are about £2 ish each from Farnell. There are smaller series connectors but you will need very good eye sight and a steady hand to solder the coax on the connectors.
  5. Hi I advise don't buy the 230V mini drill and attachments from ALDI, even though the speed is adjustable, the vibration off the drill is far too high. Its so much that when I put a 12 " dia saw blade on the end it was enough to bend the shaft , so I no have the saw blade shaft bent at about 70 degs. Luckily my hands weren't close to it , had they been it would have been a trip to A&E. I waiting for a Rotacraft #18 to be delivered , that I bought off e-bay for £12.5 is like, as it 12V and variable speed. I've gone through a lot of cutting blades with the Aldi thing, you can cut rails with it , but not precisely due to the vibration, its also heavy, that something that most of the 230V drills will be due to motor weight. Maybe OK for patching up scrapes on the car, but not for modelling. The other thing to note with Aldi is that if a customer returns goods , they put it back on the shelves, Lidl do the same. So if you do buy from there look very carefully at the packaging, and if anything looks like its been opened DONT buy it. just my two penneth Richard
  6. Hi If the applicator is too big, get a 1/2" glass or acrylic rod, and wear a pullover with lots of man made fibre in it, wear well insulated footware , slippers or something, not bare feet as you don't want to discharge yourself too quickly. Rub the rod up and down the sleeve of the pullover /jumper, and you should build up enough charge to make the grass stand up , by putting the rod close to it. BTW you may just get a shock if you touch something that is at ground potential afterwards, not enough to do any damage, about the same as you sometimes get in the summer when driving , getting out of the car and touching the door handle. Just the same as rubbing a balloon up and down on your jumper, then watching it stick to the ceiling. post how you get on doing it.
