Rather than heresy I'd suggest gentle upgrade in keeping with the HD tradition. I'd be more than happy with something like this in my collection. Great job.

I wouldn't do anything with it either. The odd imperfection adds to the charm. In fact it looks like you've got a very good example there.

The old Airfix kits have always been a favourite of mine. With a little care and modification they can still look good on a layout today.
Kind Regards, Cliff.

This was the last one from a very poorly stocked stand at Nottingham Show years ago that I've just found in my kit stash. I've not seen any more since which is a pity because I wanted to build a few to add a little variety to my rake of HD versions.
Kind Regards, Cliff.

Saw this on tv the other evening. Made a welcome change from all the doom and gloom
that seems to pervade the BBC lately.

At one time, many years ago and not knowing any better, I would give Dublo mechanisms a liberal coating of WD40.
After a little running in they would go like the proverbial 'bat out of hell' and also the slow running would be much improved and they're all running fine to this day although my servicing standards have improved since then.
Don't think I'd be inclined to use WD40 on anything more recent though.
Regards, Cliff.

I'm with you there. Looking at cold, hard numbers, the risk of becoming ill is very low. The numbers of people who are currently seriously ill is very low. Many times the number of people die each day from heart problems (450ish) than Covid (9 yesterday). 1 in 10,000 people tested is found to be positive and even then they often don't have symptoms.
BUT, like you, I am nervous. Months of propaganda from the government and a media desperate fro clicks/sales/viewers telling us that outside is death. Buses are death. Trains are death, has sunk in. Spend time on Twitter and the hysterical phrase "second wave" is everywhere. The concept of a "lock down" has morphed from everyone stuck inside to any restriction whatsoever. There is no logic to it, but it's certainly worked on me.
I quite agree. I'm totally fed up with the broadcast news. It seems to have become very Americanised in recent years in that they can make losing a hubcap on the M25 a major event requiring 24 hour wall to wall coverage.
Bring back Reggie Bosanquet and Alastair Burnet.
That's it for now .. I'm back in the lockdown bunker now.
Regards, Cliff.

At one time Cromer was in my neck of the woods. I'd be interested to know what issue that was in.

I could scarcely believe my ears this morning when I received a phone call asking if the Show was still going ahead.

Which only goes to prove that railway modelling is such an absorbing pastime that one could lose sight of what's happening in the wider world.

Any thoughts on how this will affect publication of the magazines in the short and longer term.?

I quite agree. Picked up a copy a few weeks ago having seen it at a local show.
Excellent book and as mentioned a great source of inspiration.

It's been a bit quiet on here so here's a booster to get the conversation going again!
The Metropolitan-Vickers Type 2 Co-Bo Diesel-Electric Locomotives: From Design to Destruction
This looks like it might be the definitive reference work for the Class 28 and apparently it's due for publication at the end of June. The rrp of £40 is a little steep although Amazon are currently taking pre orders for just over £30. That said, for those of us who have been Co-Bo fans for many years this book is very possibly a 'must have' and certainly a copy will be finding its way onto my bookshelf.
Regards, Cliff.

Despite their faults, I have to confess a preference for the Class 28 Metro Vicks.

Just got back after a great day out. Definitely an event not to miss. From what I could see there was a good turnout and fortunately the weather stayed ok until
mid afternoon when it got a little damp. Great to see Chollerford again which is one of my favourite layouts. All in all a big well done and thank you to the organising team.
Regards, Cliff.

Always a good show to attend and spent a few hours this morning making a few purchases and enjoying the layouts. Troutbeck Bridge in particular caught my eye ; I seem to remember it being in one of the magazines but I'm at a loss to remember which one and when. Perhaps someone can jog my memory .
Anyway great venue and an excellent show all round as usual. A big well done to the Mickleover chaps.
Kind Regards,

Picked up a copy the other day.
It was a pleasant surprise to find the articles on my favourite pilot scheme diesel namely the Class 28 Metrovick.
Agree with Steve about the paper though.

This is the sort of information that should only be shared on a ‘need to know’ basis, and since I don’t need to know how many locos I own, I don’t. That way, even under duress, I can’t divulge the figure.
Sounds like a very sensible arrangement.

Which most probably explains why I've noticed quite a bit of extra traffic on the Erewash line lately.

Morning Cliff
There are several bomb craters around ,one by the A148 at Bodham and another at Edgefield to name two
Not a lot left at Matlaske but a few buildings and foundations at west Beckham
I noticed an indentation next to the Holt to Weybourne road the other day and wonder if it has anything to do with the 1968 aircrash with the collision between a Victor and Canberra over high Kelling. The Victor's cockpit section came to earth on this road
Good evening Russ,
I can still remember that crash from all those years ago. We were living in Hempstead at the time just a couple of miles on the other side of Holt to you. It was on a Monday night as I recall and a storm
was seriously raging. We were watching "Vendetta" on the Beeb and just before the end at 10pm, the dog wanted to go out. So as I was outside in all the thunder and lightning there was suddenly an all mighty flash which
seemed to light up everywhere and which seemed to linger a little longer than lightning.
Then immediately afterwards I stood watching a lot of glowing stuff falling from the sky. Didn't really know what to make of it at the time and no immediate way of finding out. No rolling news or mobile phones in those days. In fact there wasn't a house in our road with a phone at all and the public phone in the village itself was about 10/15 minutes walk away. It wasn't until next morning with the arrival of the postwoman that we heard what had happened.
A terrible tragedy most definitely and one which would have been a whole lot worse perhaps had it happened a just a little earlier over the town itself.
Regards, Cliff.

Hello everyone.
Thanks for all your replies. I'm glad to find out a bit more about the loco. It seems there's quite a few around still and there is
also a you tube video of one running.
Kind regards, Cliff.

Probably not MARTUA, but MANTUA.
I think you might well be right actually. Sadly my ancient eyesight isn't what it used to be.

Heljan Co Bo Class 28 Third Release?
in Heljan
Posted
As a couple of years have passed since the question was last asked, does anyone know if Heljan are considering a third run of Class 28's? Given that the second release was about six or seven years after the first one it's now around the same amount of time after the second release. They seem to be readily snapped up on the occasions they appear on E-bay so presumably there must be still some demand for them.
