  1. I agree. The door seals do appear over-emphasised and a painted seal over a slightly recessed line to define the door outlines may look more convincing. Also, the rainstrip over the doors looks a bit heavy, but on the whole it's a very promising first EP. Chris
  2. Thanks for the correction Russ. So is there still a centre window behind the solid fly screen? Chris
  3. Don't forget that the 150/2 Provincial liveried Sprinters originally had a centre window in the gangway door. I can't recall seeing photos of a Provincial livery 150/2 without the centre window. New gangway doors without the window seem to have appeared sometime during the Regional Railways era. A nice filthy fly screen could be added to disguise the absence of a window. To their credit, Bachmann have recently added the window on later releases. Chris
  4. That's a nice clear description of the work involved. For anybody tempted to try fitting a 150/2 body onto a 2009 150/1 chassis, it doesn't quite work. The 150/1 cab interior mouldings are very similar to the 150/2s shown, but have a very slight curve on the front edge of the driver's desk. The front of a 150/2 is flat, as shown, but the 150/1 is curved. This also results in a fractionally longer chassis moulding on the 150/1, so the 150/2 body will not fit. I haven't checked a 2014 150/1 chassis, but I think it's likely to share the same dimensional differences as the 2009 release. Hope this helps somebody. Chris
  5. Nick, If you Google 'RAIB trolley left on line', you get a few RAIB reports with close up photos of the undersides and other details. Not the happiest place to look but a good starting point. Chris
  6. Thanks Ben. I suspected it would be something along those lines. Great choice of wagon to add yet more variety to steel rakes. Chris
  7. Could somebody in the know advise what the HT marking indicates please. Thanks. Chris.
  8. Thanks to all for the sightings and updates. On WNXX today (31/1) there is a report of a Rotherham Masborough to Cardiff Tidal scrap box train. The photo shows about two dozen MEAs in tow behind 66 063. Chris
  9. By way of a bit if a New Year review, I thought I would resurrect this thread to reflect the current position with remaining 4-wheel wagons on the network. I am guessing that the imminent Wascosa/GBRf modular bogie box wagons will see off the remaining infrastructure fleet of Coalfish and other fishkinds. Similarly, some 4-wheel PCAs could be for the chop following recent delivery of new JPAs but maybe some cement works can't take larger wagons. So what of the following is still in revenue service from last year's list: TTA - all out of use? TUA - all out of use? PAA - Sand traffic PCA - Cement traffic from Peak Forest (RMC) Earles, Oxwellmains (Blue Circle) Ketton, Clitheroe (Castle) - Alumina from North Blyth PFA - DRS Low Level Waste PGA - Aggregates PHA - Aggregates (self discharge train wagons) - Scrapped? PNA - Plasmor blockfreight CDA - China clay on local trips to Fowey IVA/IZA - Single/Twin cargowaggon IFA - Transfesa intermodal flats IFA - STVA 4 unit vehicle flats IPA - Assorted STVA car carriers, single and bilevel in variously 1, 2 and 4 unit sets MEA - any still in use? OAA - Concrete blocks from the Mendips - is this still running? OCA - MOD traffic REA - Runner wagons for steel traffic SSA - Scrap traffic SEA/SPA - Wire coil traffic VGA/VKA - Any in use for MOD traffic? Any additions or corrections would greatly assist with bringing the list up to date. Chris
  10. The February 2005 issue covered original NSE. Chris
  11. Just to update this thread, I eventually sent my slides to a company which came up on Google. There was no science involved in making the selection, just pot luck and I am pleased to report that the end results were fine and I felt the costs were reasonable. Link is here: https://www.filmscanuk.co.uk/ I have no connection with the company other than as a satisfied user.
  12. I received my copy yesterday. These first two volumes are excellent and take me back to the very best of the modelling and prototype articles which used to grace Rail Express in the Sutton/Bendall/Bayer years. I am already looking forward to Volume 3...and more. Highly recommended. Chris
  13. I have a couple of hundred transport related 35mm Kodak colour slides and I want to have them scanned and saved to a DVD or USB. Google gives me several results for companies which undertake slide scanning (including ASDA !!) but I am at a loss as to how to select one. Does anybody have experience of any and can make a recommendation please? I have read the various threads on here about slide scanners but I would rather have them scanned professionally rather than buy a scanner. Cost is not the primary objective but quality of scanned output is. Many thanks.
  14. Hornby appear to have revised the listings for the TfW Mark 4 coaches on their web site. The listings shown on the 5 January launch just didn't make sense for a TfW rake, with spurious coach letters, types and descriptions. They seem to have dropped R40184 (coach type K), R40186 (coach type M), R40187B (coach type D) and R40188 (coach type F). The remaining models have also been allocated proposed coach running numbers. Chris
  15. If the Executive liveried production model is the same as the advanced samples then the lower bodyside red and white bands look too low. The red band should sit almost touching the underside of the window frames and the white band should run across the window frames. Both bands look too low on Hornby's photos released so far. I am waiting to see if the production version is correct. Chris
