I’ve always thought it’d be an amazing model to have of a capprotti black five and I never thought one be available as a RTR model. I remember years ago ‘crownline’ produced a conversion kit, but it was extensive remodelling of the original model, which was far beyond my capabilities. I personally prefer the higher running board version of the capprotti black 5, but 44755 with the double chimney will hopefully be a good model. But from what I can gather from Simon Kohler in todays launch on YouTube the new tooling has been designed so additional versions of the black 5 can be produced relatively easily. So we might see a higher running board version at a later date. 44755 would be an ideal model though for me as it spent the last few years of its life at Stockport Edgeley 9b, so it would sit nicely with my other late 60’s 9b allocated locomotives. The only thing that slightly puts me off ordering one is the fact that it’s a ‘web exclusive’ direct from Hornby and will it survive Hornby’s insufficient packaging and possibly get damaged in transit. We were very lucky looking at other folk’s experiences on here. Me and my son collected our R3840 from our local model shop yesterday and I’m happy to say it’s fine, the guy at the shop had previously checked it before to picked it up. He gave it a quick test run in the shop and it was fine. Once we got it home we then gave it a gentle 5 hour running in session on my sons railway. Superb model very happy with it.

I’ll be picking mine up on Saturday morning from my local model shop, had a call today to say it’s arrived in stock and they’ve only managed to get one copy of an grey unnamed 10000. I’ll be having a very close look at it before I get my card out.

Best pics I could get for now, on my 8 year old sons railway. With bad lighting, I’ll get some outside ones in daylight on a drier day. Very happy with city of Salford though, ideal companion to sir William a stanier frs. The finish is to a high std with the boiler linings not to prominent.

Be interesting to see a pic of the current Hornby 60028 along side the early LTD edition Manchester Model fair 60027 Merlin for a colour comparison. I do own the Merlin model, but I won't be purchasing the WKW model.

Good news that Hornby have decided to release the Ivatt duchess as City of Salford in this years line up.

Collected my Sir William yesterday from Waltons Altrincham. Great job Hornby well done. Just ordered a pair of etched Crewe 1947 works plates and it'll be over to Grimytimes for an extremly light weathering with etched works/nameplates and possibly a yellow stripe on the cab sides.

Finally bitten the bullet and bought one. I managed get late crest version 42968 from the gift shop at Bridgnorth station on the Severn Valley Railway during a visit there a couple of days ago. Thought this would be a very appropriate place to buy it from. It's a fine example to, runs very smoothly.

The name plates can be removed just by snapping them downwards towards the wheels, the splasher though is part of nameplate too. I ordered a set of plates from 247developments and had the splasher on the new plates painted and a set of orange lining transfers too. After weighing it all up as it looks a tricky job, I decided to to get Steve Grimeytimes to sort it for me, with a light weathering too and real coal. I should be collecting my new identity King tomorrow or Wednesday.

anyone attempted to remove the nameplates, for an identity change? Do they push out from behind with a little encouragement

Has anyone seen or heard of a second batch from Hornby yet? I see hattons had some a few weeks ago, but they were all sold on pre orders

I've got fox nameplates on my Cock o the north, very high quality and look the business, have a look back through the thread and there's some pics of it, my P2 also had a very good weathering job by grimytimes too

Is it any good! hopefully the quality will be better than some of the great gathering models

And why not it's a fantastic model, I have sent mine over to grimytimes to be weathered, looking forward to getting my it back, im sure it'll look fantastic

Here it is the finished item, collected earlier from Steve at Grimytimes. He's done a fantastic job with the weathering, I'm very pleased with it. The P2 has been transformed as all the work takes away the harshness of the original Hornby item and it looks as though its in general everyday working condition as it would had been in the late 1930's. Detail pack fitted too and a set of Fox nameplates and works plates. Here's a few pics see what you think :-)

I dropped off my TTS P2 tonight with Steve at Grimeytimes for some weathering treatment. I mentioned to him about the sudden 'jump into life' syndrome of the three pole motor. We tried it on his layout and it was a bit jerky and needed a slight nudge at the first move, but the wheels then soon started to turn. It ran very smoothly too and did some good slow starts. I was pretty surprised at the slow starts and smooth running it was capable of on Steve's DCC layout as I had tested the loco on a length of track back at home and it jerked into life, but that was with an old analogue controller. I'll see if I can do a video of it when I collect it, with it new Fox nameplates and muck n grime :-) The TTS sounded good to.

Just picked up my TTS version today, all seems very good and a very high quality finish. But I'm a bit uncomfortable with the gap between the loco and the tender. I'm sure someone may have mentioned earlier in this thread that it can be sorted out. All good though, very pleased
