  1. I hope Nearholmer will allow a small hijack from me. This thread has been nagging away at me as I have had a half baked idea in the back of my head for a while now ( I even started collecting a few kits - any excuse eh ? ) .The images here only make me more encouraged to think more seriously about the idea. My day job has me striving more and more for realism and increased detail and while I enjoy that I can't help feeling that something so much simpler might be more enjoyable for my own 'layout' - really more of a moving diorama / No, a moving collection I guess. The last few pictures here have tipped me over the edge, so I wanted to prove to myself it just would not work! So I grabbed some cork and some OO setrack - and of course it just looked like what it was. So I roughly sanded the edge of the cork, flooded it with a thin dark umber wash followed by a pink ( yes pink ) drybrush - hmmm. Then I painted the track a dark flat brown and polished the rail top .... My half baked idea is to collect and build Airfix and Rosebud / Kitmaster kits ( make a few Ratio items too ) , motorise a few locos , paint ( simply ) some airfix figures complete with their bases. Moving version of scenes inspired by these box tops ... Sorry again for the hijack - I won't make a habit of it I promise.
  2. There is something about this that I find really very appealing. Can I ask what your plans are re ballasting - it looks like the track is laid onto cork and I am guessing that might be the finished effect ?
  3. Some fantastic work there I will be keeping an eye on this thread I think
  4. Hi guys I am planning on building some O gauge trackwork using Peco code 124 individulay items They do sleepering - running chairs and slide chairs - all in plastic I will be building to 0-MF standards with 1.5mm flangeways and 1.75 through the checkrails. With only the single type of 'normal' chair available it means I am going to have to chop chairs down for clearance - for eg between the running rail and the checkrail. Due to the fact I am building short and tight turnouts my checkrails are only supported by 4 timbers so I need to get as much support as I can from the chairs but also need to chop them down quite a bit to get the 1.75 required between the rails. Has anyone here made track using these components - if so could you offer some advice - or photos of how you did it please PS - I know C&L offer more chair options but for this project I would like to stick to the Peco parts ( the Peco rail is different in profile )
  5. Peco on Twitter - I can't wait to get a piece to try ( ie look at ) "Coming Soon: OO scale Bullhead Track. This pic is of the first sample off the machine." https://t.co/3nbxF9YWyw
  6. Those figures look superb - I would love to see some paint on those
  7. That tunnel is actually a cool place to stand. You can hear the whistle before it enters the other end of the tunnel - then a deep deep rumble just before it appears and then of course the train itself appears at the mouth and into the deep cutting - as it gets say 100 yards from the mouth the loco suddenly gets bathed in sunlight. Then one thing I especially liked was the steam billowing out of the tunnel mouth long after the train had gone out of sight and earshot. ' the ghost of locos passed '
  8. I went out for a little ride today and took a few pictures - I took this picture - If I turn round 180 degrees what will I see ?
  9. Luckily (?) no I have a 7 minute walk to get to that viewing point. I can see the trains from the driveway but not from the house or garden.
  10. Is there anything worse - you are taking a stroll , eating your ice cream , lovely peace and quiet and then some one has to start showing off and tooting their horn ...
  11. I have an idea for a layout in N gauge that has just a simple single line in the scenic section of and roundy layout that is fed by a quite large fiddle yard. I am thinking the obvious option for me is to use Finetrax flexi track in my scenic section joined to Peco code 55 in the hidden sections. I think joining the rail should be easy enough ? But can anyone tell me how much I will need to pack the Finetrax to bring the rail head to the same height as the Peco please.
  12. I am now seriously considering modelling the single line as it crosses Broadsands viaduct as a thin but longish scenic section fed by a big fiddle yard and roundy It would be very ambiguous date wise and so I could run some quite interesting stuff I think Apparently there were plans for a halt at Broadsands that were approved but I cant find any evidence it was ever built - so I might build it. Would you lot care to speculate as to what you think it might have looked like if it ever had been built ? Rob - do you know if the Finching sisters ever visited here ? ( in N gauge )
