Is it too early to dream of a double Fairlie or NG16 Garratt?
The chap on the stand suggested a Fairlie would be a natural follow on from a successful Quarry Hunslet. I feel it’s my duty as a responsible fellow to do my bit to make the Quarry Hunslets successful so we can all have some Fairlies as well. And maybe Peco can expand their Bowsiders to go with.

That said…and undisputed because I have zero knowledge to the contrary…my current rake of loaded Accurascale Chaldrons is an almost magnetic force drawing me constantly to a running session behind whichever industrial motive power I choose.Currently,it’s one of a Hornby Peckett,Rapido Hunslet or the powerful muscle of a Pi Victory.
I eagerly anticipate a similar…if unprototypical….experience with Hornby’s Locomotion No.1.
What wonderful little gems these are. And the magnetic chain couplings actually work beautifully.
I’m planning to run mine behind my new Cavalex Class 60 in du course.

In the line of constructive criticism, perhaps you might spend some of that time online informing your direct customers where exactly the delayed Manors are, replying to concerned emails with something more than go away you'll receive them sometime we're too busy, check with our website it explains everything .... oh wait.
I’m trying to be patient, but I kind of got the impression they were all coming at once. Seeing all the photos and thinking they’d get to no.19 soon. Then they stopped. Maybe I was confusing batch and run. I really hope it comes within the next couple of weeks as I have a photo shoot planned. I know it’s just a model, but it feels a bit like the end of term when everyone else got to play with their toys but I had to finish my work. I’m expecting to be very happy when it comes, just didn’t expect to be waiting still, and no Hinton when we might expect it.
I’ll behave again now.

Typical! I find a thread on a subject well within my sphere of interest that has a manageable amount of progress to keep me interested and inspire ideas of what I could do, then it pauses while the author does something else!
In other news, I too have found jobs which weren’t good for me having a detrimental effect on various aspects of personal well-being and taken a leap of faith into something I find more in keeping with my life goals. First it was leaving the world of offshore finance for the Police, then when the Police became no fun, leaving that fir bus/coach driving. Conservation is massively important and needs devoted people to lead the charge. I’m sure you’ll get and give plenty for the internship, and it sounds like an idyllic place to do it. A break from a project is also often beneficial. I’m looking forward to seeing how it continues when you get back to it.

I have the transfers from several years ago when I ordered a Hornby large logo 56 with a view to renumbering and naming it. I’ve since cancelled that order in favour of a Cavalex one, and just now ordered nameplates for it. Since there wasn’t one of what I’m modelling, I went for the prettiest. It’ll be 56146, Cwmorthin.

They're apparently an exclusive over at Platform in Kidderminster.

Thanks both. I’ve placed my order.

I’ve got one of these on order at my local shop in the hope that they’ll do a Marston, Thompson and Evershed one in the next run. The nameplate on the CADs and the example at GETS seems to be the right shape.

Nice.
It must've been a replacement depot as this 1898 map shows the original:
https://www.arcgis.com/apps/mapviewer/index.html?layers=7e9e6182550149f7a8a1479e06b594b7
The Martello Tower and the small hill, Hougue a la Perre as in the name of the battery opposite, were demolished and flattened to make space for the depot. There is now a lane alongside called First Tower Lane, named, as so often happens with eg housing developments, after what used to be there.
Much of the seafront along there has changed beyond recognition in the 20 years I’ve lived here, the more so since the map. Thanks for finding that, I’ll be looking at it in some detail, perhaps follow the tram route and see what else I can find.

I’ve just ordered some of these. They’ll go really well with my Coal Sector 60.

Not sure if this mentioned elsewhere but 87001 is £99 in Hattons at the moment. Couldn’t resist at that money!
I too didn’t resist. And with VAT off it’s a steal. I haven’t run it yet but it seems okay apart from the pantograph so far.

Been contacted about my choice of 009 wagon for the collectors club today, so suspect that both the carriage and my ‘David Lloyd George’ will be dispatched presently
I had contact a couple of weeks ago for my wagon. DLlG arrived last week and still no sign of the wagon or membership pack.

After a long hiatus, I’m back to modelling the station. I’ve laid the bay roads and made the first platform. At this stage it’s a Metcalfe kit because they’re perfectly fine for a sketch. The dimensions are from the Hornby plastic sections.
I’ve made some measurements from a photo of the bridge at Burton station and I’m hoping to scratchbuild it with some 3D printed details.
I’ve reverted to Code 100 for my track and it feels like coming home. I think the ease of use makes up for the overscale appearance. I’m also using insulfrog points because that’s what my shop had in. I’ve got power fed at numerous points and that will only increase. Wiring was always something I didn’t understand and it works well enough so far so I’m content.
I’m between jobs at the moment so have plenty of time meaning progress should be rapid. Once I’ve caught up on the housework of course. If my wife is working then it’s my job to run the household. She did when I was the one going out. But I digress.
Having been an eclectic collector, I am now trying to focus on a few themes, namely Big Four Midland and Western, BR late blue and sectorisation and industrial.
I’ll dig out some pictures of the brewery in the hope of some constructive criticism and post them soon now I can do it from miphone.

Help! I’ve had a look and failed to find an answer.
I have started gathering Mainline 7 plank Bass coal wagons for my industrial set up.
I think they would look better with replacement chassis. I’ve found Dapol ones which fit but they’re a) needed under the wagons they came with and b) not quite what I’m looking for - the buffers are undeniably better, but the brake rigging is quite coarse.
Can anyone suggest a replacement chassis? I’m more than happy to hack things around to make them fit, but I’d prefer the right length chassis (right to fit the wagon body not the right length for the prototype...).
Thanks in advance.

I used to go through Weymouth regularly on my way back home from and returning to the Channel Islands. It was by far the best port, until Condor did Weymouth's legs and bought the wrong boat. I always used to drive round the back after leaving the port specifically to drive on the tramway. I will be watching this thread to see the layout develop.

Also thank you all for your suggestions.

Resetting didn’t work. Neither did the DC thing. I’ll get on to Hornby and play on DC for now.

Hi, if it was mine, i would send it to Hornby, for updating, Its £15, and they pay return postage, There have been several updates, including the latest, that extends suond functions. When you first turn it on, it shows version, and i imagine, yours is now, well out of date. Had both of mine done recently, well worth it. john
Mine says 14...

I’ve reset it, but I’ve just found that I changed the feed wires to the layout so I can’t just plug it back in! Shouldn’t take long to fix then I can test it!

Thanks all. I'll try things when I get home today, unless the people of Guernsey misbehave today like they did yesterday, and made me late home from work!

Not much to report, but I have started relaying the station.
One of my favourite things to complain about on other people’s layouts (I only do it in my head because I know it’s not a big issue and nearly everyone has got further than I have) is when straight level track is neither straight nor level. So I have over engineered the track bed (3”x2” frame and 18mm MDF top) and lined the track up with a four foot steel rule.
I have tidied up the work area since this. This should give an indication of what I’m after - a double track bay with double track either side of an island platform which will disappear under a road bridge so I only have to model half of it.

I’ll try that when I get home from work. Thanks. I’ll also put blocks on each end of the running line before I put any power through it.
NG7 Announcement (Quarry Hunslet, Slate Waggons & Scenecraft buildings)

I like how the starter packs are named for slate sizes. I'd've been tempted to get one if they had Alice or Margaret in rather than Una. The cab spoils the lines of a a quarry Hunslet to my eye. Almost verging on the Emmet style layouts, which twist my vision the same (bad) way Jazz twists my soul.
