The annoying thing is that the whole project is being delayed by adding sound to the ones that have ordered sound ones, i havnt so why cant they sent these out to save us waiting any futher. Date now is quoted as quarter 3 2024...come on!!!

I've found them to be very good, the only downside is the 8 pin type that plugs straight in without the wires to the decoder itself from the plug, with the Bachmann class 55, the decoder sits too high up for the body to sit flush so the screws can be fitted. You need to but the decoders with the harness so the plug sits relatively flush so the body can go on correctly.

Is that giving you the same problem as the hattons one
Just trying to find some info about the digitrax Zephyr to see if your problem lies outside the decoder
Thanks, yes the lights still don't work properly using that one either.

Always happy to help
Do you have another 21 pin decoder to hand that isn`t a cheapo one
The only other one i have is a Bachmann type 21 pin decoder.

Having read your original post a few times just to make sure
You state you have full directional lighting in DC mode is this correct ?
The lights only play up when you fit the decoder again is this correct ?
If I could ask what DCC system are you using
Cheers
stuart
Thanks for replying Stuart
Yes, works ok on DC. I've got a Hattons decoder and using a Digitrax Zephyr controller and yes, the lights are not working correctly on DCC.

This suggests that your F1 buttion is set up for momentary operation rather than the required latching function, functions are usually set to momentary for the horn. This setting needs to be adjusted on the DCC system not on the decoder.
Regards
sorry, made a mistake there. Heres what happens when I press various buttons:
Forward PC-1 white; PC-2 nothing
Reverse PC-1 nothing; PC-2 white
FW with Func1 PC-1 both white/red lights on; PC-2 nothing
rev with Func1 PC-1 white; PC-2 on/off with F1 on/off
FW with Func2 PC-1 Both momentary; PC-2 on/off with F2 on/off momentary (latching)

I got round to assembling and putting mine on the track this evening. It's a beautiful model. Unfortunately, the tail lights on one power car do not appear to be working, so I have pinged off an email to Rapido trains. Figures crossed that it can be fixed easily. I've checked all the connections and disconnected and reconnected them without any luck.
Anyway, pending its repair, here are a few pics of the model on the layout...
At speed...
Here it is arriving at Edinburgh Waverley...
Some more speed shots..
and in 70s style black and white...
Cheers

PS I've just noticed there are two windscreen wipers on one end, which I presume is an assembly error.
I'm having the same issues, are you running Dc or DCC. I've took out the decoder and put back the blanking plug and the lights work just fine on DC, when I put the decoder back in, back to square one, the front lights work but rear ones don't. The F1 button shows that the red lights work but do only work when its pressed, goes out then button release. I'm using a Hattons 21 pin decoder and the unit works lovely on the track, very smooth running, just this niggly issue with the lights. Someone mentioned using a ECU decoder however I'm determined to get the lights working on the hattons decoder, surely the function buttons work the same on most decoders. PS its the same issue with a Bachmann 21 pin decoder also so something amiss somewhere.

Just managed to get mine together and it runs a treat with a Hattons 21pin DCC decoder in the power car...HOWEVER....the red tail lights do not come on when running in either direction, the white marker lights are fine and they light in the correct way when i select the direction, anyone else come across this issue and if so, know how to solve it.

Just messed around with function 1 buttons on my DCC controller, the lights (red+white) do work on both ends but cannot get them to stay on when I reverse the throttle direction.

To make ammends for my lack of area knowledge, I bought the June 2012 issue of " Steam Days" mag yesterday. There is an excellent 14 page article entitled "Passing the time at Bradley Lane", an interesting, well written and illustrated article on the ex GWR line at Bradley Lane between Wednesbury & Bilston, written (in english !!) by a local lad. Definitely Black Country.

Lived in Bradley Lane for many years, used to pop down to the line (latter years) to see the Norton Barrow tripper...often an 08 but sometimes a 25 or 31.
