Jinty ;-)
I will post a trackplan later, I've got a 1988 BR one and one from old-maps.co.uk, type in the postcode BS3 1TJ and it's nearby (to the left) but with only two tracks crossing the level crossing. I'll probably do one on AnyRail as well.

Yesterday I was able to take a few reference photos of the older, plate girder bridge near Ashton Junction. This is on what will probably be the right hand side of the layout. Here is a photo of the bridge: Ashton Junction/Ashton Gate Station by firstbusphotos, on Flickr

Not too sure of the exact bit of track, or the period, but about 40 odd years ago there was a guy, who I guess was about 30 years old when I knew him, who used to be a fireman. He said that one of his most boring jobs was firing a loco with steam pipes connected up to banana wagons to ripen the bananas. About once or twice a day, iirc, they would trundle up and down the sidings to let the ash drop out of the fire. It was somewhere in the Cumberland Basin area.
Thanks for that, the closest sidings to the Cumberland Basin would be Ashton Meadows so that seems likely.

Unfortunately, there won't be much space to model Ashton Meadows unless I extend the layout considerably across. I'm planning to run trains from 1984/5 during the Billy Graham rallies at Ashton Gate Stadium as there were specials made up of Blue and grey DMUs and MK1 coaching stock hauled by 37s and 47, and the GW150 celebration specials in 1985. I may model the Severn tunnel inspection train often hauled by departmental class 50s. I might even run a 'what if' scenario where the line didn't close and continued to carry passengers up to the present day mainly operated by 150 DMUs and maybe a 170. I need to gather info about freight trains around the area from the 1980s to run as well as it is intended to be an exhibition layout.Kevin (Rivercider) and I were discussing on Sunday about Ashton Meadows as a potential layout as it was on my "to do in the next 20 years" list. You could have specials for the Wine fair, stretch the imagination with power boat race specials for when Bristol used to host the international powerboat race in addition to the coal for Wapping Wharf and engineers trains as well.
Thanks for looking in.

It seems I'm not the only one who swaps YMRV BR1 bogies for Replica Commonwealths. My excuse is they are railtour coaches whig réduire Commonwealth or B4/5 bogies. Il probable repaint thèm into BR bleu as that si m'y preferred période.

EDIT: The above should read 'they are railtour coaches which require Commonwealth or B4/5 bogies. I'll probably repaint them into BR blue as that is my preferred period.' I had the French keyboard on my iPad!

Will follow with interest, Ashton Meadows is a good choice of prototype.
Thanks, I drive past it regularly and then looked into the history of it, then thought it was an excellent base for a model.

Yes they are, just make sure your CAD measurements are right!
Jack.
Yes, I've screwed up things by getting measurements wrong, I once nearly made the mould for an Alexander/Transbus ALX400 which would produce a model a scale foot too long! That was for the CNC milling machine though...

Hi all, this is the new thread for my second layout, the old thread was mostly planning and a number of different ideas. I have finally decided on Ashton Gate Station & Ashton Junction with a bit of Ashton Meadows Sidings alongside the platforms. The project will progress fairly slowly as I don't have much time due to school mostly. I'll post an update when I get more track (2 crossovers and some more left hand points).
Cheers for now, IC125

This looks very good, I like the idea of lasercut baseboards, we've recently received a second lasercutter at school which I'm going to put to good use for my new layout and my model buses. They're very useful bits of kit aren't they?

It looked excellent at the Warley show, kept me interested for a good while and I'm very easily distracted! Lovely model.

Lovely stuff Vac_basher, nice contrast in the line up of HST power cars. Which 47 is that please? Looks like 47406 but not sure, she looks very nice on shed!
It does look like '406, the detail is all correct and has the circular logos above the name, so I would agree that it is '406

Looking good, I like the way you have used DAS clay for the loco shed area, it looks very effective.

Strange, I recently ordered a chassis from DC Kits and it arrived promptly within a week (today in fact). No problems whatsoever.

How much would you want for a four car set?

Hi vac_basher, I love this, especially as in planning to build a layout based on Bath Road - and I too have a breakdown train (well, one tool coach at least) The shots of your 47s are good, I'm hoping to convert 484 from an old Lima 47 one day is it is one of my favourites. I found this on the Bristol Railway archive and thought it would interest you and maybe others who follow this thread: http://bristol-rail.co.uk/wiki/Bath_Road_Depot

Hi Shed, amazing work here, I've been reading through your old threads and have finally found the up-to-date one! I will be following with great interest.

Most colour schemes have been produced by Heljan or Bachmann, Green, Blue, RfD, other Triple Grey Rf liveries, XP64, Blue with RfD logo, Large logo, NSE, Intercity (Swallow and executive), Advenza, Cotswold Rail, Colas, Freightliner, Royal Train livery, EWS, even Green with yellow ends with plated Headvode panels like a mainline registered loco in an old colour scheme. There my BR more that I've missed, bit that should start us off nicely.
Cheers, IC125

I have a picture on my phone of 2 ScotRail 47s on shed at Bristol Bath road depot. Any ideas why 2 were on shed down South. There was an Intercity Swallow 47 behind them.

Hudswell Clarke 0-6-0DM in 4mm?
in Modelling Questions, Help and Tips
Posted
Hi all, I am looking for a 4mm scale Hudswell Clarke 0-6-0DM shunter like the one pictured below. I have been searching for a while now, but have only found Worsley Works whose website says they are willing to make kits if you provide details, but I don't know how much it will cost. Their prices generally seem very reasonable.
Thanks, IC125
