  1. Just an observation which may or may not be correct. On the decorated samples photos from Rails Of Sheffield's website and looking back at the previous photos on this forum, are the orange cab front jumper connectors a little too large or prominent? I understand that these are pre-production samples but thought I'd see if anyone agreed.

  2. I have mentioned to Bachmann in the past the possibility of them producing no. 60539 BRONZINO, the last A2 built, fitted with a double chimney, Kylchap blastpipe and no multiple-valve regulator, unlike the others with double chimneys. It  performed very well in tests against A1 60114, was a favourite of enginemen and widely believed to be the best of the class. It would make a third version of the A2 and hopefully a popular one with only minor alterations.

Does anyone remember the opening sequence of the Six Five Special Steaming Down the Line on BBC1 on 16 February 1956? The opening sequence was 'Coronation' heading off on an express train.

The streamlined Coronation was followed by a short glimpse of an unrebuilt Patriot or Royal Scot and an A1 or A2 on the Forth Bridge.

  4. A manufacturer, Accurascale, goes out of their way to make life easier for modellers by introducing a removeable roof panel and gets criticised for it on a painted sample. I'm sure if the experts on here have noticed an anomaly, so will Accurascale themselves. Less chance of damaging your model, therefore more chance of being able to use the lifetime guarantee if needed, what more can you wish for? The liveries look great by the way.

Ive always wondered about this, what is that box above the horns for, at one end only ?

According to 'British Railways Class 60 locomotives' by Edward Gleed (2016), the metal plates are mountings for a GPS tracker aerial which was fitted to some, but not all, of the class.

  6. Maybe not quite on topic but can anyone shed any light on the distinct memory I have of Jubilee 45581 'Bihar And Orissa' on a freight train on the Bootle-Aintree branch around 1961/2? The nameplate was painted orange and white, divided horizontally in the centre, with polished brass letters as usual.

I’m sorry about that but what am I to do if you can’t keep your flanges under control?

My 46256 has a flanged pony (no animals were harmed😆) if it's any of your business!! 🤣 (Think we'd better stop this now!)

My Brit and Clan were fine as were my latest release Princesses. Sir William needed a little hacking but my Bulleid was hopeless and I gave up my W1 as a bad job because there wasn’t enough room between railhead and chassis bottom. I congratulate you for achieving it!

    You've been hacking me? 🤣😛🙃

On Sam's Trains' review he briefly showed something interesting on one of the driving axles there seems to be a device to sync sound and/or smoke. Someone got theirs open yet?

I wondered if it was to sync the firebox flicker to the speed.

  10. I saw the 50 at Chester on Saturday, it looks like it has the same superb attention to detail to which we are now accustomed with Accurascale. I later spoke to Fran about it, regarding collectors like myself having a detailed buffer beam at one end when supplied. A really positive and wide ranging conversation and typical of the depths the company go to in listening to their customers like no other. Wonderful Class 89 samples as well. Looking forward to 50017 (and maybe more)!

The main guard irons are missing from mine too. They are also missing from the R3246 P2, Cock O' the North and from the W1 although please see the attached picture - the vestigial guard irons attached to the pony truck are present on all models. Whilst Hornby state, I believe, that these models will impressively cope with radius-2 curves, the attachment of the main guard irons could well prevent the models negotiating almost any model curves. Perhaps they are simply missing from all Hornby P2s: 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2005. I have yet to see any despite there being a video review presented earlier in the thread where the author stated they were in the accessory pack - I could not see any myself.

Missing guard irons? Not a problem, just take them off any late-era Hornby A3 or A4 which shouldn't have them!

  12. Quote from the e-mail received from Hornby today:-

    "Presenting the P2 Collection-

Today also heralds the arrival of ‘Earl Marischal’ (the only P2 to have smoke deflectors) and ‘Lord President’. You can buy these two powerful P2 models right now."

No smoke deflectors on 2002 Earl Marischal!  Does anyone at Hornby know what they're doing?

  13. Still no satisfactory conclusion to the ambiguity caused by Hornby. palmsticks posted this on 6th August 2022 on the forum topic "Hornby R3984 LNER P2 'Earl Marischal' - with or without smoke deflectors?" , from Hornby's Engine Shed blog:-

    https://uk.Hornby.com/products/lner-p2-class-2-8-2-2002-earl-marischal-era-3-r3984

However, in their engineshed blog and various other press releases, they have produced CAD artwork which shows the engine with the later smoke deflectors and have stated:

"Another feature that has been asked about is the secondary smoke deflectors as fitted to 2002 ‘Earl Marischal’ and yes, these have been tooled and will be added to that model. While we do not have a physical sample of that with us in Margate at the moment, I thought I would treat you to a CAD shot."

  14. I must have had sixth sense! I cancelled my order for 2002 about four months ago on grounds of cost, but wanted and expected it to have the second set of smoke deflectors if Hornby's confusing CAD releases were anything to go by. Am I missing something or was the 'as built' release made clear enough by Hornby? Relieved and can't wait for the (more expensive?) version with two sets of deflectors.

  15. I contacted Simon directly a short time ago regarding a problem with a new Class 91, what may have seemed possibly a trivial matter, but I was delighted with his response and follow-up. There is a genuine desire on his part to keep customers happy. Good wishes and a happy retirement Simon.

  16. Maybe not the correct place to post this but:- Wow, from recent beginnings to the best, most accurate and sensibly priced manufacturer in such a short time! To reach out and overtake all the others is a staggering achievement by Accurascale. I am primarily a locomotive model collector and the quality of those models I have purchased already, 2x Deltics and 92010, is a statement of intent which at present no-one seems to be able to compete with. Roll on 89001, 50017 & an as yet unspecified 66 or two! Thanks to everyone at Accurascale and here's to a teriffic future. SWFRS
