That is a fantastic piece of 3D printing! The chassis looks good as well.

I really wouldn't let Shapeways fob you off like that - I have seen a couple of other prints that have come out like yours (but which came out OK at other times from Shapeways) and which they subsequently reprinted for free. So I would definitely persist.
Whilst Shapeways won't guarantee which orientation they print, this seems like a different problem. As you say bits 2 and 4 on your photos look awful.
Good luck, Mike

I like the Kerosene Castle - it looks good!

Good work Julia - what software are you using?
Ian - does sketchup offer either boolean operations or chamfers? That is how I would do them in Blender.

0.1mm should print (it is within the design limits). Whether you will actually see it is another matter - on some things I am adding deliberately overscale items so that they can actually be seen (as the mind expects to see something which may to scale be too small).

Nice work Pete!
I know the different blues might jar on the eye, but it probably isn't too far from reality in that unless the two locos were painted by the same paint shop at the the same time then there would be natural variations in the blue.

The 26 looks lovely to me!

Nice work Jack.

Great idea Jack - I am going to have give that a try.
I wonder if dummy couplings with magnets + elastic for the air pipes would work.

Sorry to throw in my 2p again - just back from a few days killing my liver in Munich.
As I said originally - my view is that what actually dominates the initial surroundings of Kyle is the sea. The photo that was linked to shows this - you see sea first, then further back (at least half a mile back?) the hills on Skye.
My point was initially that the shots that Pete has are actually viewed from the station bridge across to Skye where as the layout will (I guess) primarily be viewed from face on to the station ie from the old ferry slipway eg:

PS for true to life Kyle it should be very grey and raining ;-)

Eeek! Apologies for setting the proverbial cat amongst the pigeons.
FWIW I definitely prefer the second version and agree with Mickey's comment.

Sorry to be dissenting and negative voice here, but I have to say that the backscene doesn't really work for me.
A combination of knowing the prototype too well - my eye is immediately drawn to the missing half of the station and from most angles knowing that you wouldn't see a mountain behind but the sea, and the way it looks like the station building is almost built into the hillside.
I am not sure that I can think of a solution - you might be able with a bit of clever photo backscene positioning to have the other half of the station as part of the backscene and then a shot of the sea/sky behind. Alternatively I think that I might be tempted to just have a relatively plain backscene (or even none at all).
The photo is actually the hills behind Kyleakin on Skye and should really be at the sea end of the station at a right angle to where it is now.
Sorry for being a party pooper!

I am afraid time travel is not within my gift! Somewhere* I must have photos from the mid-late 80s...
M
* quite where that somewhere might be is another matter!

Good work Pete (apart from the finger slciing obviously).
If you need any pictures of Kyle station (or any particular bits of it) then let me know as I will be passing through at least once (and probably twice) over the Christmas period.

Pete - yep, provided the computer and your iphone (or android device) are connected to the same router then you can download an app called Withrottle (the Lite version is free and adequate for my needs). You install JMRI (again free) on your computer and go to Throttles and start the Withrottle server.
More details of Withrottle here: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/withrottle-lite/id344190130?mt=8

Hi Pete
Looks excellent - I'd love to see some more detailed pictures of the half relief station building.

Nice Spider Jon!
My mate has a boat tail Spider in red - gorgeous thing, but like you say the electrics leave something to be desired!
Does your's have the "italian widow maker" cruise control? The one that doesn't release if you apply the brakes!

Very nice work Bryn!

Wow - excellent work as always Pete!

I agree with Kris - single track and some carriage sidings. I would probably ditch the goods shed.

Thanks Jack - much appreciated! I am sure they will be popular and a very useful addition.

Excellent work Jack.
Any chance that the Tigers will be available for sale (I presume they are more 3D printing from Shapeways)?

I would definitely have a look at Finetrax - still N gauge but with all the finesse in appearance of 2mm FS.
