  1. Interesting discuss on West Coast Railway’s use of colour. As someone who is aware of the paint code that WCR use, I thought to inject some practical points away from my chair. WCR uses British Rail Standard Coaching Stock Maroon. Not their own ‘WCRC maroon’. Maroon is maroon, also know universally as British Standard 381C xxx…opps that would be selling for a penny! As someone has noted on here, maroon is a transient colour and it changes (darkens) over time. No one photo shall match another as no one coach is painted at the same moment. Photos are a dangerous reference to use, some are clearly taken on a sunny day with direct sunlight. Others taken on a dull day, with a weathered coach. Unless we know the type of camera and are viewing on Apple’s Pro Display XDR/Studio Display/Macbook Pro with P3 true colour (okay you might not get a university discount…so go view in an Apple store)…we all find ourselves sliding down a tricky slope to push our chairs back up! These photos of my trusty British Standard Colour Chart, one taken by artificial light and one in direct dull/overcast sunlight, shows how much 381C xxx / British Rail Maroon varies. None to my mind match what we are seeing here. Bachmann looks far more representative. If I was being generous, I'd say the Accurascale maroon appears to match a coach that is freshly painted, in direct sunlight. Giving a much brighter effect to the colour. What we would need to check is to ask WCR whether the correct paint code was given to Accurascale, as it does appear a little light. If anything, it looks like a RAL match by the factory to BS. Anyone reached out? One thing is clear, assuming Accurascale have worked with WCR (as why would they not?!). Is that their coach shall fade like the prototype over time. I know Accurascale are very popular on here right now. Yet Bachmann have had a proven, long established history with paint accuracy. I would trust their artistic representation of coach, and it shall be interesting to establish what British Standard paint code Accurascale used. No doubt they shall be along quickly to confirm they have also used the appropriate British Standard provided by WCR and we can all laugh about how impossibly transient Maroon is!
  2. Anyone going to address the elephant shouting 'here here here' in the room? If these are coming in a future quarter, on my mama! Also cannot find any information about the class 69, stating it is now available to order. Naturally shall be going for SFX!
  3. Seen this 'Warley Special'? Just grabbed myself a second one to re-number to 419! https://revolutiontrains.com/product/o-gauge-Heljan-37-4-drs-compass-livery-37405/
  4. Correct, they are the same measurements of more recent ones. Only clusters which are slightly deeper are the new type (seen on 004). All measurements can be found here: https://www.bmac.ltd.uk I rejected my Hatton's ones a long time ago, so do not have a model to measure against a prototype.
  5. I am so pleased others have spotted this too, it's my number one bug bear about the Hatton's tooling. If I may combine your photos, to suggest the modern light also should have the same size lamps. I told Steve a few times. Also, I am very interested in the GBRf ones. Yet, the white (too 'white' or 'cream') and green (too light) on 779 doesn't look (well is not) right. See attached correct colours, I am sure if Steve messages me privately I would happily share the codes, as I really want to buy 779 if correct. (Mind you, would you not have the artwork from GBRf?). On 763, I am not convinced by the gold. Seems too dark/too much honey. There is also a band of gold missing above the cab windows. The silver seems to be over printed too. (NB. there's different blues used by GBRf...certainly 752-778 came in a near 'ultramarine' blue). And now nitpicking... Look forward to ordering a sound fitted 779 from you, if the colours are sorted.
  6. Super useful post, when my three arrive I shall certainly be fitting a 20x20x7 into the short bonnet! Is there a president for ESU re-recording locomotives as the technology/market moves forward? I see here on Modelrailway.pt a photo of the upcoming Schindlers. I do like how Modelrailway.pt promote the hobby yet I would never stop buying through the outstandingly welcoming and helpful Daniel at Espacial Livraria E Papelaria. 2023 is going to be a golden year for modelling Portuguese railways!
  7. Or, perhaps some of us do not mind paying for an increased degree of accuracy?! ;) On speculation matters... I am hoping for some 37/4s in DRS Compass next week! A Wessex Trains 150 or 158 before I am dead would be nice too.
  8. Great photos @Mol_PMB!! I might have to re-think about the Arlo 1900 when/if they release a Medway version. Even though I would love a Norbrass 1900, no doubt it shall be around €1900! Not that I cannot afford, just that is a lot of port I could buy instead?! Are your 1400s sound fitted? Is the provided ESU speaker 'basey' enough or have you managed to fit a mega base or round enhanced base in there instead. Hard to know if space from the guide. (Ill easily answer for myself come later this year with all the new 1400s arriving!)
  9. That really is an outstandingly generous price for what is going to be the next benchmark OO locomotive after your Cl. 56. The pedantic attention to detail, whilst offering a great price, is truly noteworthy of admiration from me! I have always been rather on the fence in terms of interest in the Cl. 60, even though I have had some great experiences with them at Toton. Still, a Cappagh one is essential for anyone who likes stone trains and with the new level of detail you are bringing to the hobby, the Cappagh one is what I am getting! Look forward to further progress!
  10. I see sample photos are up on Hornby's website (https://uk.Hornby.com/products/gwr-class-800-trainbow-train-pack-era-11-r3872) for the upcoming GWR Trainbow IET 800/0 and it looks good with a vibrant rainbow (version worn from June 2018 to May 2022). I am impressed with the amount of label details they have printed on the IET, previous releases were rather lacking in the finer labels (or even correct door colours). Nice touch that the air-con fairings are now painted correctly with grey. Promising signs for the upcoming GWR 802/1. Shall be interesting to see whether it is 8-pin or 21-pin when it arrives. GWR green looks same as earlier releases, certainly Hornby's take on it. Still think Bachmann make a closer match, it is what it is if you want an IET.
  11. Just flagging this up, as perhaps the F5 button broke... I am pretty sure I read somewhere that Accurascale have recorded a 37/0, 37/7 and 37/6... surely a 37/4 too?
  12. Good to see the LokSound chips are now available to pre-order! Only, seeing as I am now the volunteered 'Accuraproof' reader for the website... The 'refurbished' sound chip has the description of the 'original'. Now that's out there, I have a question. I am a virtual novice to DCC Sound, yet I am looking to learn (your approach of providing a chip and a clip in speaker seems to be a great way to learn). My main experience of the 37s is from Norfolk during the short set days. I am assuming that the 'original' is for the 37/0s including Colas's 37116, with the 'refurbished' being suitable for the DRS (and HNRC) 37/4 & 37/6? I remember fondly from my Wednesday afternoon writing days that 37422 and 37716 sounded different to the rest of the 37/4s in Norfolk. The best was always 37405 for sheer phenomenal sound! Equally, when the RVEL rebuild 37407 & 424 came along, 407 had more verbal charm than 424. All this might be down to other factors... As the history is the 37 is rather complex, I do not want to assume that a refurbished sound is suitable for all modern livery 37s. Perhaps the specifications can state for what model it is suitable for?
  13. Ah, I did not know. I presumed that EarthMover was an ESU term/brand! Certainly having added sound to a Sudexpress 1400 and Euro 4000, the chip and speaker came attached from ESU. Good that Accurascale in the UK are making it as easy! OK great, that's the specification on the Accurathrash speaker on the website. Clearly the answer is that there is a single Accurathrash speaker that is fitted to all models, as well as being available to buy separately! Only... being new to sound and wanting the best... these are the sources to my confusion - The Deltic is here said having an 'EM1' speaker (through you say such a term cannot be used): https://www.accurascale.com/en-au/blogs/news/turn-your-deltic-up-to-11-with-our-dcc-sound-decoders-and-speaker-kit Yet, the Class 37 is clearly saying: https://www.accurascale.com/collections/class-37/products/class-37-hn-rail-37405-dcc-sound-fitted So, I shall ask again, but differently (please do not presume I am an idiot, I am only using published evidence to ensure I buy something I am happy with). Is the Accurathrash speaker available now as an accessory, from the Deltic timeline (first link) or upgraded to the Class 37 timeline (second link). As such, and avoiding brands, we know now the Deltic is equivalent to EM1 and the Class 37 to EM2. The above links, would make the Accurathrash equivalent to EM1 and thus inferior to what you have fitted to DCC Sound 37s? I do not want to end up buying the Accurathrash speaker as available, for it not to match a superior product in the Class 37. Clearly, as I have demonstrated, I am confused by the different uses of speaker terms (EM1/EM2) on the Accurascale website. Just seeking clarity, thank you for your efforts.
  14. OK, good to have it confirmed that the standard model comes with a higher frequency fitted speaker. Yet, my first question appears to be unanswered? I don't let students evade my line of questioning, so I won't let Accurascale off! Is the Accurathrash speaker equivalent to either an EarthMover One or EarthMover Two? Though the sound fitted 37s are listed as EM2, I only asked above, as over on the Deltic thread there was a suggestion that the Deltic had an EM1 at the same time the Accurathrash speaker was out (there is nothing in the specification to confirm either way). Naturally, I want to ensure my 37s sound as good as the EM2 factory fitted examples!
  15. This affords an opportunity to ask a few follow on questions. As I am too someone who has gone for DCC Ready for my 37s, only now coming to DCC Sound... as such, I ask - Is the said linked speaker an EarthMover One or EarthMover Two, equivalent? (I only ask as over on the Deltic thread, there were suggestions that the Deltic had an EM1...). There must already be an 'iPhone' style speaker pre-fitted to the DCC Ready model? Considering the specification for DCC Sound states that a model comes with both a 'large EM2 style bass speaker' and a 'smaller iphone style cube for higher frequencies', as this latter speaker is not available to purchase in the DCC accessories section of the website, do I presume correctly?
  16. I might be one of these rare customers/modellers who seek's the definitive / 'the best' and I could not give a flying pig about the cost - it must be accurate and as true to the prototype as possible. So yes, I am disappointed as it seems Accurascale cater more for the modern modeller i.e me. Yet I shall thank you for providing a far more detail and factually accurate statement about working fans and what was meant by additional tooling. Focusing on run three and beyond, a working fan is a must! I am rather delighted I did not go in big with run one now and I think I shall cancel 37116 with my retailer and wait for run three with a definitive working fan - simple because when compared with Bachmann 37175 SFX it shall just disappoint me (I'll keep 37405 as its orange, just needs those 'CP' decals added!). It sounds as if it is still very much the intention to allow an 'easy' way for the customer/modeller to retro-fit a working fan accessory (especially as you already have the physical space/place and the circuitboard/PCB is designed to power the fan). As for amortising the cost, previously 'the boss' as you business people call the them, has stated you have at least seven runs planned. So, say a fan mechanism costs a crazy figure like £20,000 and assuming you are producing the 37 in reasonable qualities, it works out as less than a £1 per model... I can afford that on my mediocre academic salary! Just do it!
  17. Excellent modelling! I have to say, the modelrailways.pt's Medway 1400 looks a far more professional respray than I had assumed. Still, academic now with Sudexpress releasing an RTR! Your Transfesa Uacs look stunning! Wish I had four to mod, feel inspired! Have you shown Armando your Cimpor photo, might finally inspire Sudexpress to re-release as they simply do not come up for sale. Though I understand several numbers were released.
  18. I am aware of the specifications of the run one locomotives, hence my question was following my understanding from published information on RMWeb by Accurascale. It was clear you have been using the delay to ensure a working fan module can be offered, well until your statement above confuses things! Honestly, I am disappointed that run two shall not include this feature. Yet this is balanced against how I am relieved that I have made the right decision to only buy two locomotives from run one as it appears I could not retro fit a working fan accessory, after all. Your statement above on needing to tooling for the physical provision of working fans and speculating on price... is confusing when considering, if you review what has been said (by yourself) in this thread: a) the functionality is been embedded in the electronics, b) models have been designed for module fitting, c) you have made physical space for the fan module, d) You hope to offer a fan module at cost to the run one customer, e) the class 31 is the same price as the class 37, already offering a working fan (even on DCC versions), and f) you have published a statement in July 2022 saying that it is likely future runs of earlier launches will include the technology. Thus, for the sake of clarity here. Are you or are you not going to offer (as previously suggested): 1. working fan in run two and beyond, class 37s? 2. a fan module accessory that the customer can fit to the run one locomotives (considering previously Accurascale have said this has been designed in)?
  19. That's nice, but just missing a proper logo.... !!! I have asked Gareth, yet no reply :( so could Fran et al on Rmweb confirm whether 'run 2' shall have working fans on DCC? This was originally mentioned by your boss back in Aug 2021 as something you have designed for the future... If you are to include, have you come up with a working solution to retro fit the 'run 1' locomotives with a working fan? I reduced my orders for 'run 1' right back to only 37409 and 423 as I was happy to wait for a couple of years for the 37/6s to be produced again with such features! Still, I have ordered CP inspired 37405 direct and Colas 116 with my usual retailer, in the faith their fans shall work! In the meantime, Bachmann 37175 Sound Fitted Deluxe shall keep me entertained.
  20. The Medway 1400 from Modelrailway.pt are re-paints, which has put me off, so I am delighted Armando has taken the plunge and released an RTR Medway 1400. 1465 and 1422 were released in Medways awesome black last year too, more to come this year. An excuse to buy two of the Medway 1446 and renumber...I think yes! Ah I would have preferred 1413 or 1424 in blue, but I suspect 1455 is more of a modern celeb with the Presidential. Plus 1455 shall match Schindler 1231 in dark blue? I know, I can dream of 2025-2026 release for that one! Please to hear I am not alone in wanting Cimpor Uacs! Hopefully 2025-2026! I saw an EP of the Schindlers in Continental Railways last March, IDK am I allowed to post here. I suspect credit to Armando at Sudexpress. So hopefully released this year?! BTW the 1900s are now a Norbrass project (officially dropped from Sudexpress range), looking spectacular for brass, both Medway liveries planned...so that's a couple grand spent! - https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=505029781625973&set=pcb.505030081625943
  21. Sudexpress 2023-24 is out! So many Euro's to choose from...and all the 1400s you'd ever want! Shame to see the Medway Sgnss have disappeared (I have asked Armando why) and I had hoped for a re-release of the Cimpor Uacs (or were these Norbasss?). Anyway, if you might be disappointed with Hornby or Bachmann this year...Sudexpress delights! https://www.yumpu.com/xx/document/read/67520516/sudexpress-novelties-2023-2024
  22. Where did you get from? I thought they had sold out in Portugal earlier in the summer. I did not realise until October that she's still operational with Medway, too late to buy :(
  23. Am I able to clarify here? Are you still proposing to release GWR 143s? I have no interest in a weathered example. I have waited 10 years plus now for a Wessex 143 that has often been proposed but not released, is that something to give up hope on?
  24. Anyone know why 3354 is yet to be released? I have on pre-order. TBH I never saw 3350 in the list of orders, has 3354 been dropped for 3350 instead? Shame!
  25. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading your posts and the debate around. I feel we have lost something special on RMWeb where we are all just people who love particular things about trains, rather than getting entrenched in manufacture X vs manufacture Y. The simply reality, no matter how much any one company claims, all RTR models are built to a budget with compromises that only they are aware of as to why. It's great to be passionate about striving for the best/definitive models as a reflection on how much we enjoy the prototypes. I do not view model trains like I do when buying a Mac, with Apple you are paying for the best and you utterly trust the brand to deliver you a top rate Mac that money can buy (well I impatiently wait for the new 27"+ iMac for 4 years + now) and as Apple know, if they do not send a Mac that is millimetre perfect I return it until they deliver me one that is...with models, you buy something close and then spend years tweaking it in the reality that no mainstream manufacturer is going to produce an exact/non-compromise replica of the prototype - if you so wish. Well unless you are Norbrass who do, yet you are looking at £1000 +. God no one get ideas and start producing brass exact replicas of UK prototypes! All I want to say is thank you for bringing back a passionate discussion about how models compare to the prototype and then how you can spend hours of pleasure making them accurate. Something I thought RMWeb was about and it is a great shame to see anyone talking models these days is instantly attacked for being passionate and knowledgable. For the record, I have Bachmann's 37418 in Sound Fitted Deluxe and same with 37175 on order. I am very pleased and frankly do not give a flying pig about cost (if honest, I would like them to go further and proudly say they are paying their factories a living wage and offering employment welfare as well as using sustainable packaging/transport - I'd pay a premium for that!). I have a few Accurascale 37s on order, but if honest I look to future releases from them not because there are no working fans but because the liveries I am most interested in are absent on the 37/4s. Who ever releases 405, 419, 423 or 425 in DRS compass first gets orders. It does not matter who produces them, I can buy them all. Colas is another great example, if Accurascale also release one, I shall buy (as long as the fan works). I, the customer/modeller, win here as I get all the models I want from new tooling that I may choose to improve in the future. Again, I do not care about the price... guess why? It's a hobby! As defined by an activity that you spend disposable income on. Try sailing or owning property aboard, then you'll know about 'cost'! There's more serious things in life to get genuinely grumpy about, model trains is not one!
