Thank you to all the friends I have made, advice I have been given and knowledge I have gained from all you very special people contributing to this thread.
It has been a great journey and one that I really will always remember fondly.
Happy New Year to you all.
All good wishes for a safe and healthy one.

One of mine has been screwed to the wall for 3 years the other two for a year and are still secure. I bought some LED lights from eBay and have them all lit. They look great fantastic way to display my collection. Cannot recommend them highly enough. If your in two minds go and get them you will not regret it.
Darrel. Do you have a link for the lights?

With my 'Elf and Safety' (seasonal what?) I would point out that although freestanding you really should secure to wall . You don't want 33 kgs of primarily glass plus contents toppling over on wee Johnny who has been jumping up and down excitedly in front of it!
I've got mine resting on an IKEA unit to take the weight. Like others I didn't fancy just hanging it from wall , but it is secured to prevent it falling over. While stable it is relatively narrow and that landing on someone would not do them good!
I certainly agree with securing to the wall even when standing, but the load on the wall will be minimal compared to trying to support 33kgs!

They do have feet.

Perfick!

No offence to you, but I've had better stuff inside a Kinder Egg !
How does this company get away with producing such cr&p ???
You've had better luck with your eggs than my kids have! Share your source please.

Just for clarification the real D1562 exploded and caught fire on 13/3/71 whilst working the 19.43 Norwich-Liverpool Street near Haughley Junction. Stored at Ipswich from 13-24/3/71 and then taken to Crewe Works, and formally withdrawn 20/6/71. Cut up September that year at Crewe. Was new 14/3/64 - source Allocation History of BR Diesels & Electrics (second edition) Roger Harris.
A dramatic and rather sad ending.

The difference is magnified in the second photograph as the GBL body is further from the camera. It doesn't look nearly as obvious in the top picture.

There was an empty rack in Eastleigh again today. This is getting serious!
I have an order with GBL for issues 25 and 27, but those are out of stock! GBL wouldn't take my order for #28 last week, and now #29 is absent locally. Given all this, I can't see the little Pannier showing up.
So, if anyone has spare, or unwanted issues #25, 27, 28, and 29 and will be able to lay hands on a #30, I would be really grateful to hear from you to discuss a transaction for purchase of the models with combined postage to try to minimise those costs.

About a dozen Scots in WH Smith Wigan this morning. A nice model, sits on the track nicely (unlike some earlier models). I've toned down the silver valve gear and a dab or two of weathering powder she looks "just the job" on the shed - ready to go (if she had a motor !!!).

I do find it amazing how plentiful the models are in some parts of the country and the incredible drought in others (mine!). Very poor marketing / buying strategy by major retailers in Hampshire!

As I have now said several times, others here have phoned customer services and had a positive result.
You could offer them your views on their back issue arrangements at the same time as ordering.
I phoned them today. They have a back order problem outstanding with issues 25 to 28. They claim to expect more to come but have no idea when. it appears to be correct that they are a third party as well! They took my order but I have no real hope of it being fulfilled. Unable to order 28 until next week.

The windows suffer from the usual 'prismatic' effect and really call for replacement with clear plastic cut to shape (fiddlly but worth the effort). 'Klear' should work but the last fogged plastic I tried it on was only partly improved.
A 'polish' with 'Brasso' first will help but don't forget to clean it thoroughly first before applying Johnson's Klear.
Thanks for the tips chaps. I'll have a go with 'Brasso' and 'Klear' later today in the first instance I think. Cutting neat replacement clear windows will be a bit of a challenge!
-
Picked up the last 4MT at Eastleigh today. Generally good, but glue fogging on the cab windows (I guess why it was left by the local predators!) - is the old Johnson's 'Klear' application still thought to be the best cure?
-
None in Eastleigh this pm. Either v. popular and all snapped up or else Sainsbury has given up.
-
I could have sworn it was only last week I bought a 'Peak', so shouldn't it be the 21st?

One large and several small cases remained at Eastleigh this afternoon. I hefted the big one a couple of times before walking away.......
It really is a nice and solid piece of kit.
I was so tempted, but I reckon all the GBL models wouldn't fit in anyway.
And most importantly, I would have been in so much trouble if I'd brought it home on Christmas Eve!

If it helps, tender transfers do turn up, saw some at the last ToyFair (along with the numbers) so if you can grab some, it may be an even easier job. Think they were only a quid for the pack.
Thanks for the tip. I'll look out for them.
-
I managed to pick up the last one in Eastleigh this afternoon. I could see why it had remained on the shelf - a lot of chipped / missing blue paint patches on the tender. I am sure it won't be too difficult to find a match and touch it up. Felt it was better to have the bird in the hand though!

Picked one up from Eastleigh Sainsbury's this morning. Gold lining somewhat over painted in parts on the two remaining. Mine has a slight curve on one of the coupling rods. May be fixable, but haven't had time to take it out yet. Otherwise, it looks nice to my eye - with my very limited knowledge!

Any joy finding T9 model?? I am off up to Weybridge area tomorrow, Do you want me to look and see if the T9 model is still in W H Smiths for you?? I will not be going there after tomorrow till at least Monday again next week.
If you are interested I can get it and bring back to Portsmouth and then I could post it onto you, with full payment for magazine. See Smiffy2's thread earlier about postage. You can (pm) me through this site.
Many thanks. Have pm'd.

There were several each in Eastleigh WHS and Sainsburys on Thursday, even after I'd bought 3. There was an elderly gent on the bus home with one in his shopping bag. The 'gallery' on Eastleigh station was busy that day, probably due to service disruptions, so they may have accounted for the rest.

Pete. I was in Eastleigh Sainsburys on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday and today, and there were NONE. I'm becoming a suspicious lurker on their CCTVs. Confused mate!

T9 unobtainable in the Winchester, Eastleigh area from day one, despite my repeated visits to all known outlets.
I have attempted to purchase one from GBL themselves, but was robustly refused this evening. Apparently, I cannot order issue #20 until December 1st!
It is an interesting business plan that makes it so difficult to part a punter from his money.
I welcome pms regarding swapsies (limited to early issues) or a straight buy of a 'good un'!

Slow? That doesn't sound like anything Tri-ang.
It suggests a service is needed. She probably only needs a good clean, as the motor is almost indestructible. Crud tends to seize up the bearings and the commutator slots bung up with muck. Once shifted, she should be as good as new.
I am very, very fond of her, and will look to a bit of a clean sir, but I do aim to create a static doppleganger memorial (courtesy of GBL) to smile at on my desk every day!
