- Noticed from my books that the Dapol loco rear seems to be different? Should it have a more open back above the buffer beam?
- I have a second Peckett W4 but, as I believe PLA had only one, any suggestions for a conversion for PLA?
- Would love to get hold of the Hardy resin body, not least because I have the lining transfers for same!
- Rails of Sheffield have a Rapido six wheel single veranda brake van similar to one on PLA with L B L on the side??
- Probably going to convert an ancient K's Kit of an LNER Toad B too.
- Charlie Connor does of course produce the ancient PLA 2-4-0T 3D printed kit too. https://www.shapeways.com/product/XCQBT4X6D/pla-millwall-extension-railway-2-4-0t-kit
- PLA transfers are still just available, just, in the old time workshop range but I found some similar (Gothic sans serif white 5/32” letters and numbers Gothic sans serif white 5/32” letters and numbers?) , more flexible and cheaper here in USA in the CHAMP DECALS range: Champ Decal Sel #L-39 Modern Gothic Letter & Number Set 5/32” White NOS.
*No vans yet so very interested in the above information!

Well I guess that serves me right for not logging on here for err.. years.
Yes, very much still interested in PLA.
I know of Dapol and Rapido releases and have worked on some basic, probably inaccurate steel framed, 5 plank merchandise Airfix wagons wagons,
two Austerity saddle tanks plus a pair of PAL vans.
Thank you so much for the information above.

Today I received the following:
Only recently contacted by Colin regarding setting up a forum for modelling Port of London Authority Railways, I believe Colin was associated with Carshalton MRC?
May he rest in peace.

Very interested in this subject.
The list above that there were only 3 Brake vans on PLA, and their disposition, is particularly interesting.
I am currently building a Slaters MR single veranda type, but for PLA.
PLA Livery was it seems quite a bright bauxite red/brown.
This one is an ex-MR or *ex-SER, but no idea what the LBL was on the side for?

I have seen another poor shot suggesting a similar brake van but this time a six-wheeler?
*See Rapido UK, SER Brake van release announcement 8-) ?
This one looks like a cut down single veranda ex-GER 20T Brake?

I would like a couple of Parkside PalVan kits and some vans and (correct, unlike the GV set) open wagons too...

Now have two Janus in original condition, as released, but in refinished livery from photos.
My third Janus now has additional details and changes, but still in the original livery as released by GV

Steven, great view - only another eight Janus's to go for a full set!!! PLA never had end-tipping wagons but loads of secondhand mainline mechandice ones. Then there were the vans, few brakes only at Royals plus Breakdown vans. In Janus days there was a fleet of ex-BR Pallet Vans one of which is preserved on the Bluebell. PLA did finally sort out its wagons/vans into A, B and C prefixed numbers as the one one the Bluebell. There is another RMweb thread with much detail of the wagon/van fleet. Keep up the good work, Colin.
Thank you Colin. I was suspicious of that Golden Valley set! My current biggest challenge appears to be to model the three lamps on each end of the Janus! My third just arrived and I think sufficient unto the day!
Re Pallet Vans etc.. Thanks for your help:

Really interesting.
PLA seems to be a challenging subject?
I have obtained three Janus from Golden Valley (they are still available but they are out odf the BTH etches). Started to study them and use Dave Marden's London's Dock Railways nice books too.
Even though most pictures are in black and white they do seem to show several Janus livery differences in their short PLA lives?
I attach my model based on my interpretation of those found on page 79 of the Part 2 of Dave's books.
Wow, I did not anticipate that those nameplates might have a blue centre though!
Noticing:
- Shorter handrails on the side of the engine snout.
- No handrail on the top left of the footplate steps sidewalls which are smooth.
- Much simpler front handrails?
- Bottom of front handrail has a small perpendicular handrail instead on early/Tilbury ones 201/203 seen in Part 1 Pg 75 (chevrons over bufferbeams and footplate steps with only painted numbers on the side) at least?
* Will be very grateful of any help please?
- (I also got two Pecketts too but research suggests only one W4 ever with PLA?
Not sure if feasible to convincingly convert to an earlier Peckett variant?)

Like the Janus and picked up a pair of PLA ones and etched Yorks, BTH & PLA # plates.
Idea was a quick job of enhancing them, but I have found the more you observe the models the more differences you find lol!
I have a pair if books now on PLA and see at least three PLA Janus liveries.
I decided from the photos of one livery that when they had the cast number plates they had white highlights edges to red front side steps and also likely red handrails too.
No idea how I am going to add six dummy headlights to each yet..
Interesting forum.

I'd think an RTR J72 should be a better fit
J69: 6'4"+7'6"=13'10"; coupled wheels 4'0" nominal
J72: 6'8"+7'0"=13'8"; coupled wheels 4'1.25" nominal
I have no idea about availability, living as I do in Tennessee these days...
Bought a scratch built J69 on a J72 chassis a while back.
Prefer Charlie's J69s and am working on 4xJ69 1xJ68 & 1xJ65 (Have a J65 converted from J72 as well..

Top: Bought a scratch built J69 on a J72 chassis a while back.
Middle: Old basic Wills Finecast kit.
Bottom: J65 converted from a J72.
Prefer Charlie's J69s and am working on 4xJ69 1xJ68 & 1xJ65 (CDC sell J65 and F4/F5/F6 Gobblers etc. with chassis on shapeways.com. Material and detail is not imho as good but love them all nonetheless)!
CDC are producing lined out J69 with correct midway ross pops for BR(GE) Ultramarine Blue and Apple Green too.

I understand the J69 body - which looks great - is designed for the older Terrier chassis. Was that ever released with a DCC socket?
One of the old Terrier chassis I just bought had, most annoyingly, a chip soldered on and resting in the smokebox.. I presume one of the reasons the new Terrier chassis was intriduced was for a DCC socket?

The RT Bus is an IXO 1/43 model. Quite nice and appears on O gauge from time to time, but London Country would be the wrong period perhaps? It would be lovely to find a suitable Eastern National Bristol KSW doubledecker but good luck ;-)
I do have a Corgi Eastern National OB somewhere I think if you want that?
Adore so much about this layout, not least those signal boxes. Terrific

Nothing special with the photo's, just taken on a cheap tablet and converted to black and white.
I was going to show originals but colour quality is not good when used with neon lighting. (Also, I've saved the b&w ones over them!)
Here's some other colour ones.
Just love your layout and stock. Following avidly. Need to construct three GE bridges too...

Oh wow... Really getting into it isn't he!
Good luck. Certainly enough detail coming through for a 7mm version.
Thanks for posting. I am watching that thread too.
Steven
there is a guy on here looking to make resin casts of these and has worked up a 3d CAD model
See here
There are a couople of us pushing for a 7mm version

Looking forward to seeing more.
Roadrailer depot was I believe in Great Easton/Lt. Canfield. Probably the old airfield siding. There is a picture of the train at Braintree but most of the testing was towards Bishops Stortford and that mainline. My OO Scale Roadrailer kits:

I've recently had a delivery from Shapeways including a 4mm class 04 tram printed in HDA. This model show the good and bad points of HDA, the detail is as good if not better than FUD with out the problems of the support material. The side valances look much better than the separate FUD versions pictured on the Bachmann model (which also came in this order). The cow catchers printed well and some parts are very smooth.
The bad points of the model are the layers visible on the back of the cab and nose front which may be hard to remove without damaging the rivet detail. The model also has some marks where it looks like the support material had been removed with a knife (including some marks on the bonnet top). I will be interesting to see what the model looks like when it gets a coat of primer on it.
Another couple of prints arrived-
A 4mm version of the FUD grain elevator- the lower version designed to sit on a platform. (Brush type 4 - I can make either version available in 7mm - which type would you want?)
A 4mm version of the new style conveyor also arrived - printed in WSF - one issue with this version is that it wants to tip over so will need weight adding to the back/bottom.
I also got a 7mm old style elevator printed in 7mm to see what it looks like and what detail was visible.
Simon.
Fascinating. I searched for Drewry 04 in Shapeways but couldn't find it? Is it no longer available? Could you advise the suppliers name. Thank you.

Excellent have loved following the progress on this layout, the Braintree branch has a special place in my heart, i live very close to the junction at Witham and often hear the flanges squeeling round that tight bend. as a boy i remember the fertilizer trains and the goods yard at Braintree with the sugar beet trains often pulled by a 37. your layout has captured this atmosphere so well, well done , i love the f5 so common on braintree and maldon branch, keep up the good work it doesnt matter how long its taking as its a work of art, all the best Glenn
Just FYI some pictures on my "Beechwood Photography" Flickr photostream enjoy!..
