Great thanks, I now can figure out how it can work. The xpressnet links into the existing command structure within the Select and Elite. I don't use a Select but I do have an Elite so the xpressnet has to link in to the existing software running the Select or the Elite. Now seeing as there are no applications using this at the moment, the only current communication is via USB, how does Hornby know it is going to work? The last update I had on my Elite was over a year ago, so I assume all the Elites and Selects will need updating. I think this could be a long wait. Unfortunately you don't find bugs in software until you use it in earnest so even if the Xpressnet is already programmed in the Elite and Select, I doubt it has been tested much.

I used to write software for this sort of thing linking PCs to test equipment so I can see the pitfalls.

Hornby know how well it works because they have tested it, and so have a group of external testers.

    I have two comments:

1  Does the message really want to say "and posted in" ???  (reading and posting are distinct, so why are they locked together here??)

2  I have tried changing the 'time' option to 'only since my last visit', but most times it always wants to revert (in a new session) to the default 'past 365 days'. (Which is a pretty weird default, btw.) When changing this, I sometimes get "do you want to create a new stream?", and even if I say yes, the setting seems to stay on 'past 365 days', and I'm unclear what a new 'stream' is and whether a new 'stream' will risk losing an 'old stream'. Is this area not controlled by permanent cookies, or is something more complicated needed to change these filters?

If you look at the top of the screen there are two tabs BROWSE and ACTIVITY. Select ACTIVITY > MY ACTIVITY STREAMS > CREATE NEW ACTIVITY. When you save this with whatever settings you prefer you can just go back here, select that activity and your options as saved are utilised. We are all trying to find our way with this new format. Personally I like it. R-

I have 4 of them and they work extremely well. As has been said, the ADS8SX is much better that it's forerunner the ADS8fx. I use a Hornby Elite which delivers 4 amps but I have the ADS8SX decoders on separate switches because when powering up from cold as the 32 CDUs suck all the power out of the Elite so that it "shorts" out. Switching the decoders in gradually sorted the problem.

I also use the Elite and am looking to utilise 2 ADS8SX's (when they come back into stock). Would you advise switching them on separately to avoid the same issue or will I be OK with just 16 CDU's? R-

  4. I know it's not about trains but this has been one of the funniest threads I have read for a long time. I've even been prompted to post a reply. Who would have thought there would be so much Whovian knowledge amongst we modelers?

Like a few on here, I confess to being an avid watcher of Dr Who, and being baffled by the latest series' story lines. I look forward to being equally baffled by the new Dr.

Anyway, my vote is for Peggy Mount (I'm sure the BBC can do some imaging trickery). I only got 6d per week, the chap that got 2/6d was very lucky.

You've made my morning folks - keep up the good work.
