  1. There is a variety of content from one month to the next. We spent a lot of time at Pendon in the previous two DVDs looking at model railways. Yes there will be forthcoming features where we look at big railways (shouldn't we all as modellers?). It's more fun for us as a team to do too than it all being about models.

On the digital version there are lots of extras which are about modeller's layouts and additional product videos which don't have the same production values as the DVD content or may be more last-minute than the DVD production entails.

Hi thanks for your reply as stated I have no issue with the DVD having a section on the real railways but in all honesty and I think most would agree if I wanted to see real railways I would be buying a different magazine all together, The whole reason I and many others choose BRM is because of the excellent tips, Product reviews and how too segments which is what makes BRM the best model railway magazine there is.

  2. Hello,

The BRM DVDs have always consisted of a few 'sections' to break up content and give it more of a programme feel. Traditionally this is:

    - Layout of the month

    - Practical BRM or Tried and tested (usually Phil or me)

    - A third section (Heritage railway/retailer/artisan visit)

Recently a 'decision' was made to experiment with a 'road-trip' style format which it was thought would help our video team time-wise. The first of these with Phil and Andy on the February DVD to Pendon might have included 'Real railways', but I think the main emphasis was on Pendon which continued through to March. Spring issue saw us explore the North Norfolk Railway, its on-site model railways and model 5 1/2 in gauge railway with some interesting facts on driving a DMU, artefacts from the line and more. And who wouldn't want to get a footplate experience?

It has been realised that this different format is counter-productive time-wise as you'll see with the April DVD as we revert to the tradtitional format, a trailer for which you'll be able to see on our Youtube channel soon. This DVD will see Clydach as our layout of the month, applying water-slide transfers to an Oxford Diecast van with flashing lights to make it layout-ready, in sharp contrast to the excellent work of the staff at the Llanfair and Welsh Highland Railway who are carrying out some of their winter work - coach lining and track renewals inside a tunnel, details from which could be of use to modellers. Incidentally, it is on the Llanfair and Welsh Highland Railway where Baldwin 10-12-D No. 794 is located and being restored. A review of Bachmann's new 009 model will appear in the same issue.

Future episodes will continue to see Practical BRM modelling by Phil and I - don't worry :)

Thanks Howard for that information, I have no issue with seeing real railways on the DVD it's just when the whole DVD is about them, The whole point of buying a modeling magazine is to see tips and information about modeling and I think most would agree let's face it if I wanted a magazine all about preserved railways and the real thing I would be buying a totally different magazine in the first place.

  3. T he reason I chose BRM over all the other magazines is the content of the DVD which used to have several different sections, There would be product reviews, The section showing how to which was brilliant, It now seems the DVD has become all about visiting preserved railways. Don't get me wrong I do like to see the preserved railways but I also loved the other topics covered are you going to do the other topics again on the DVD or is this now how it is, I wish to know as if this is now how it is I will be cancelling my subscription.

    Regards

  4. I mailed GM on the 73 and its general issues prior to my purchase and (to their credit at least replied) they said they were only aware of the lighting DCC issue! I replied with all the other issues known. I got no further reply though.

Either head in sand or maybe they have been lucky and not seen many returns which would surprise for such a big retailer. I did warn them if I am not happy that I will be returning mine. I doubt they will bother to inspect each loco before shipping for major issues, and to be fair they shouldn't have to.

Hi when did you E-mail them as i spoke to them today at 10am about all the issues and was given a return code. i  do not like to bash any company especially British but it seems to me that having products built the other side of the world is not working out to well. Surely with the amount of mistakes that are made it would be better to start making products back in the UK. Things could be put right without much delay and the company would have full control over its products. Just a thought.

  5. There are printed on plates plus etched plates in a little bag. As to how easy it is to remove the printed ones, I have yet to find out.

Basically after a lot more research it would seem before the 90s it was in dark Brown and after it was a lighter Brown when i saw the loco in person in the 80s it was defiantly dark Brown, As for the nameplates they should have Brown backgrounds but more recently the Alex did have Black. The issue is and correct me if i am wrong but most people will want to run these with Pullman coaches and as the only decent ones (Actually excellent) are Hornby would it not have been sense economically and cosmetically to match the shade of Brown with them. What really baffles me is i had a Dapol N gauge Alex and Brighton and both where in the darker Brown.

  6. So Todays Starter for 10 - Will Dapol listen to the retailers now who are suddenly stuck with returns, or will they (Dapol) think that since only X% were returned its ok and continue to make/sell them without improvments. Keep in mind that not every modeller is going to be upset about all the 73's issues

Very much doubt it as usual it will get swept under the nearest rug.

  7. Hi thanks for your reply Sanspareil, I am running with the proper lit Pullman coaches which are all the same shade as the Hornby Pullman loco. As i want it to run with these it looks way out of place so will now fully detail my Hornby one instead.

  8. I spent some time researching last night and can defiantly say that the oo gauge Brighton Evening Argus is defiantly way too light, Such a shame as i was so looking forward to this loco but it looks awful against my coaches, I also think that the font for Pullman does not look right either. Anyway mine is making its way back to the shop for a full refund.

  9. Hi all can someone please help i received my class 73 Pullman today and detail wise it is awesome against the Hornby version but the shade of Brown looks way to light, So my question is the Dapol brown to light or the Hornby to dark or are both just wrong.
