  1. I’m intrigued as to how the cranks attach to the axles? Similar soldered to the axles like the other sentinels?
  2. I gripped the worm with some pliers with the shaft pressed against the table and with some force it dislodged, I then stuck it it in a GW worm puller and pressed off the worm. The worm seemed pretty undamaged by this brutal approach. I'm going to take one apart as they seem to have a large (ish?) bronze bush at one end - bigger than most coreless motors that ive seen. the B and D have Mashima spaced screw holes, but larger thread - not sure what. Th C are identical to Mashima in spacing and thread. Reasonable heavy suggests a good size iron core - certainly weigh 2 x Mitsumi Comparison: Top to Bottom Mashima 12/24 Mashima 12/20 N20 Coreless 10/20 Mitsumi 15/20 Mabuchi 16/27 (sold as 3-9v received 4v) Large front bush on par with Mashima The B and C type have 1.5mm shaft, but they are really stubby and possibly not to much use - only 2.0 - but the one with the worm is 8.5mm in lengthmm p
  3. Hi all, I've been trialling out these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Japan-Mini-Micro-5-Pole-Electric-Big-Coreless-Motor-DC-3-7V-5V-6V-12V-High-Speed/193592365341?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160908105057%26meid%3D078579b7ca5d4a32b6e813e2d6d94605%26pid%3D100675%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D15%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D193592365341%26itm%3D193592365341%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2380057&_trksid=p2380057.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci%3A7681270b-500b-11eb-a7e8-6ef2a71592fa|parentrq%3Ad747c1971760a68ba65ca17bffcbd636|iid%3A1 I bought models B, C and D. Here is the C type fitted to a Judith Edge Janus chassis and a High Level Road Runner + (54:1). I had to sleeve the shaft from 1 to 1.5mm and in doing so ensured there is no for and aft movement. it will crawl long under normal DC, even at relatively low levels of reduction (for a shunter) - 20 sec for a full wheel rotation without stalling. They have surprising amount of torque and I'd say quite a nice 12/20 or 12/24 replacement. I'm yet to run up to the full 12v as that is far beyond what I need for a small shunter. Very responsive to minor current increase. cant stop them with fingers at 3v - and the model C has normal Mashima mounting screw holes. Will try some of the double shaft variety as they look similar https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10mm-Mini-Coreless-Motor-Dual-Shaft-DC-6V-9V-12V-High-Speed-RC-Rail-Train-Car/192513133362?_trkparms=aid%3D1110006%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20200520130048%26meid%3D3b34a177d0dc4ad6ac713fd37c333ba6%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D12%26mehot%3Dsb%26sd%3D193592365341%26itm%3D192513133362%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2047675%26algv%3DSimplAMLv5PairwiseWebWithDarwoV3BBEV2b%26brand%3DUnbranded&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851 Good luck! 4. Count me in for one of those Sentinels Mike! Looks like a cracker of a kit
  5. Here is a pic of the mod0.5 gear train in a Heljan c.16. Mostly all 12-15t sprockets from memory
  6. Hey Mike, Steelman chassis coming along nicely. For the compensated one, can Chris @highlevel help out with a modular gear train to transfer the drive between axles (like the Ruston 48 / 88 DS?) I notice that the mod 0.5 gears come in many shapes and sizes and could be useful, and many of the the ready to run mob use these in their diesel bogie gear towers. J
  7. Hello all, im looking for a complete unstarted pro-scale LNER P2 kit to purchase. Also looking to have it shipped overseas. please PM me if you have one you’d like to sell on. cheers j EIDT - Found one, so no longer wanted
  8. +1 for 7050 Mike. quite a modern looking loco compared to other designs from the 30s out there. any particular reason the wheels on the prototype were so small?
  9. Great news. Order on the way. Is The MC metals version limited to Rails? Hoping for some IU rebodies in the future (inc packing straw) to go with your other Onllwyn Colliery IU wagons https://www.flickr.com/photos/95430950@N07/45215100972 James
  10. Great news guys! While they will fit right in a block trains behind a Class 47, 56, 58, 60 or a Class 08 on a cripple movement, lets not forget that they also look at home behind an Austerity slogging its way from the colliery screens up to the exchange sidings at Bold and Bickershaw Colliery in the late 70's and early 80's Bold Colliery: Bold Colliery - 8D association Bickershaw Colliery: Bickershaw Colliery - Gerv Wright Looks like a couple of newly painted (although still filthy) rail freight branded HAA in amongst all that grime and freight brown branded HAA. If you look closely some of the rail freight ones still retain the original bodies while others have been rebodied. (Photos all dated from 1979-1983). Cheers J
  11. Many thanks for showing us how you design your stuff - lots of inspiration there!
  12. While on the topic of Aylesford paper mill, here is a nice close up of 'HORNBLOWER' (1957) on the rear a showing those large windows, plus smaller 'inspection window' from Gordon Edgar on Flickr: Looks like the cab has taken a bit of a bump and its missing some glass from one of the windows A BR DM having a rest in a shed from Hugh Llewelyn on Flickr: Note that is has been fitted with marker lights as per Class 03/04/08 etc An ICI 165DE 'KELVIN' (1957) with early style cab front, large rear cab windows (check inside the cab!), later style shunters steps at the front - and 'DE style' coupling rods (more teardrop shaped at the crankpin end rather than massive more angular DM/DS type) by G-IBTZ on Flickr. RE cab design is 1957 a transition year before the slope front cab introduced c.1958/59?
  13. https://www.facebook.com/Thompson-Locomotive-Collection-865908213771780/ Apparently they both survive!
  14. Do you have the rough dimensions of this plate? Height and thr width across thr RH and Ruston &hornsby part?
  15. Thanks PoB! Just ordered a copy. I'd have to agree with one of Ruston's earlier comments - they seem rather unphotographed in industrial service compared to other types. Is that because fewer were manufactured? Id been keen to also understand what would prompt a user to decide between a DS/DH/EDE version? And why so any varieties offered by Ruston. Cost? Power? Continuous runnning (trip, workings?) vs occasional shunting operation? If if anyone has any pictures of them in NCB service I'd be interested. J
  16. Hello all, Any recommendations on books to purchase/acquire that detail production numbers of these beasts and where they ended up (similar to Rustons book on the 48/88DS)?
  17. Hey Ruston, Loving this build. Vast improvement and already capturing the bulk of the real thing. Thanks for taking the time to show us all how you did it. Got two in the stash to do some day. J
  18. Well I did it, axle hung motor for a LOR train as per the prototype. 4mm scale. P4 standards. Using 10.5mm AG wheels. Prototype test mule in a Judith Edge 7ft bogie. Nigel Lawton 6mm x 10mm mini motor and belts and pulleys. Running about 16:1 Next but of fun is figuring out compensation/springing and learning how to etch up some modified bogie frames
  19. looks like the old Jidenco kit of the 25t LNER or hopper
  20. Any thoughts on producing/developing a ‘half Janus’ kit Mike? Enjoying your build thread. Cheers, J
  21. Many thanks for this build thread. I’ve one in the stash so this is invaluable. excellent modelling
