  1. I managed to cop 59003 whilst she was stabled in Tuebrook sidings. These were the photos I got of the loco, standing on a stepladder whilst leaning over the bridge that separates Tuebrook sidings and Edge Hill. Does anyone know the reasons why she has come up north? Some people have said it's for Drax trials, and some others have said for banking duties.

  2. Thanks for the info.

What I am really interested to know is why when DRS already have seven active 37/4s then 422 when it returns to traffic and 407 and 424 when overhauled and repainted they are increasing the number of 37/4s on there books. I could understand if the Cumbrian Coast trains and the Anglian trains were going to be 37/4 hauled permanently but they aren't because once the DBSOs are repaired and ready for traffic they will only need four 37/4s to cover Cumbria and Anglia trains. So what do they plan to do with the remaining six? I mean even if they had a spare 37 at Barrow or Kingmoor for the Cumbrain trains and a spare at Anglia they would still have four left over. Are we thinking that they will be used on general freight traffic like flasks?

Presumably, the 37/4s will be better in the long run for DRS. It would free up 6 locos for other duties yes, but with some non-ETS fitted 37s still in service DRS may wish to withdraw a few locos and plug the gap with 37/4s, the parts from the non-ETS fitted 37s being transferred into 37/4s. It also depends on how many locos they might need on standby.

I did hear on a gen group that 37413 at Bury was to be swapped for 37510. Does anyone know if this is getting the go ahead?

  3. It might be worth staying on at Kingmoor and then going to Carlisle station, as the Cumbrian Mountain Express rail tour is due into Carlisle on the same day with a 'yet to be arranged' steam loco on the front. Another tour 'The Lakes & Borders Railtour' is also due to arrive in Carlisle with a class 68 at the helm.  If you are on any gen groups like backline gen or north-west gen, then you will probably get reports of the 37s working the Cumbrian sets on the day.

  4. Here's a couple of shots from 57s on the Northern Belle at Liverpool Lime st.

One from 23/5/15. 57306 on the tail end of the Belle, arriving 32 minutes late due to a trespass incident at Edge Hill. 306 was ready to form the 22:23 ECS to Edge Hill Intercity Depot at 23:03.

  5. A night at the TMD provided a chance for a couple of shots..

Load Haul 60059 passes visiting classmate 60074 on a Liverpool bound empty coal hopper train.

Over at the TMD, 66504 and De-branded 66612 sit in idle preparing to work an engineers train.

Much later on, A chiltern 168 well off-the-beaten-track is seen going for overhaul on an ECS, passing 57003 waiting in the loco holding siding.

  6. Looking at some of the photos above, are the top headlights off in some of the pictures? Eg FL 66570. I'd always assumed they were always lit...

Having had a look at the video I took of the same train i can confirm that the driver had the wrong lights on! The right hand marker light was on and having looked closely he still had the tail lights on! If any other lights appear off then that is a result of the camera in the iPad :)
