Well, there wasn’t any enthusiasm to do that while I was there, even though it was an open goal. Why it wasn’t tooled for in the first place is bizarre, but then again, that wasn’t an isolated incident…

Accurascale magnetic chain couplings

Not many of those used on Chaldrons Ian! -
Evolutionary @Covkid the P4s were the next iteration, which were then superseded by the P6s and P7s, which were in turn superseded by the 21 tonners. The Chaldrons would be concurrent with both (in ever decreasing numbers), but would have been used for different purposes within the colliery environments.

Aye, and I wonder who had to stand their ground there against the naysayers internally to make sure that they both came to market 😉

How do you know that though? 😉

Something that I’ve always been at pains to point out and one of the reasons why Didcot’s Siphon was not used as a basis for survey. A survey visit yields vital information that is compared with measurements and details on the original works’ drawings, which are then compared to historical photographic references. This procedure highlights any potential issues, which can then be addressed by further research. Best wishes, Paul

Is it time for a collectors club?

Well, this particular one will be deep in the heart of NER country Mike, but I hope you all have a grand day out! -
Is it time for a collectors club?
Islesy replied to Philip Jackson's topic in Accurascale / Irish Railway Models
We like to think of all of our customers as being part of the Accurascale ‘club’ already and I honestly cannot see any benefit in creating a paid for club. As has already been pointed out we already have a 10% discount in place for multiple buys from our warehouse, and we also have ‘exclusive’ Accurascale editions available for each model released, which are only available from our website (and which are available to all). There is a loyalty scheme already in place; the Accurascale credits, and again, these are available to all. At shows, we welcome everyone equally and will gladly spend time chatting with all our potential and existing customers - no ‘special’ zone from us! We have already produced a catalogue for our range (free, I might add) and as our range grows, so will the catalogue. Regular updates? Well, again, we already do that, and you don’t have to be part of a ‘club’ to get them. Yes, it would be nice to produce a quarterly Accurascale magazine (I certainly miss writing magazine articles) and it’s something that, in time, we may consider as we grow, but that’s an undertaking that needs to be done well, (not as an afterthought to justify a membership fee). So, in my opinion, I’d say no to any form of Collectors’ Club. All the best, Paul- 70 replies

Not in my experience, but then again, the projects I did this for did come to fruition. The only exception I can recall was that when I sorted the 'deal' with Hitachi for the IEP, I specified for 00 and N gauge (just in case). Some time later Kato made an approach to Hitachi to do the IEP in N, and we agreed to release those rights (another scale/gauge might, or might not, have been substituted for N 😉)

One of the (many) reasons that I'm no longer there 😉

When I was at Hornby I approached DRS to sound them out (as they hold the UK rights on the 88) and I was told in no uncertain terms that Dapol had the rights...

Class 37, by Accurascale
Islesy replied to Accurascale Fran's topic in Accurascale / Irish Railway Models
You are wrong @Mophead45143, as I've said many times over. The 91 was a long time in planning and research at Hornby (I should know, I was the Researcher). For all of Hornby's faults (and there are many), the 91 was NOT planned as a Cavelex killer, and it most certainly was not rushed in research and CAD development. -
An awful lot of people in this hobby (and other hobbies besides), think many things are 'easy to do', as they comment from the sidelines. What you speak of may well become a 'thing' at some point, but that will take a lot of R&D time, testing and fine tuning, none of which comes cheap in terms of man hours (a cost to a business that cannot be recouped). We could spend our days researching pyscho-sound, but that is time lost to other projects and models that will recoup our investment in them. A harsh reality maybe, but the one that faces us as a small business.... Best wishes, Paul.

You are quite correct David, and it was one of the tooling changes we fed back to the factory at the time we received the Engineering Samples. One of those occasions which only come to light once the EPs have been received which, after all, is the whole point of having those samples. The final samples will have this error corrected (though not the decorated samples, because many of the parts from the first EP are used to create the decoration samples). Fortunately it was an easy fix. Best wishes, Paul.

THE EUROSTAR IS ONE OF OURS.....😆 Well, you didn't specify which part of Kent 🤭

I've played my part in tomorrow's announcement, but only in a supporting role. My next 'turns' will be eclectic, to say the least....
