NER 20t Hoppers, By Accurascale
Islesy replied to Accurascale Fran's topic in Accurascale / Irish Railway Models
Evening lads! Worry not, the NER 20T samples arrived a week or so ago, and have been assessed prior to being sent for their beauty shots. Fran will do a full update on them shortly 😉- 162 replies

The Chaldrons, By Accurascale
Islesy replied to Accurascale Fran's topic in Accurascale / Irish Railway Models
Possibly so, NER registers describe the 3T/4T Hoppers as Black Waggons, but by then there were so many varieties of the hoppers in service they were literally described ‘as seen’. It does seem that the term ‘Black Waggon’ was commonly used to describe the Seaham type 4T variety, and there’s no definitive reason why, but it does appear as though it was done as a way of distinguishing them from the earlier, single block braked 3T types. All the best, Paul -

The Chaldrons, By Accurascale

In much the same way that most vacuum cleaners are not Hoovers! Sometimes, a name just sticks, and such is the case with the 3T/4T wooden coal hoppers of the North-East. It is a colloquial term that I have no problem with, and which acknowledges the lineage of these Waggons. Best wishes, Paul -
The Chaldrons, By Accurascale
Islesy replied to Accurascale Fran's topic in Accurascale / Irish Railway Models
First up I do need to emphasis that the three Chaldron models are based on their condition in preservation, be that at Shildon or in Germany, rather than trying to be examples of how they might have appeared in the mid-19th century. But with regard to original appearance, they would have been weatherproofed timber, whether that weather proofing came about by creosote, or by pitch, it's impossible to say. Certainly, there are accounts of scrapped wagons being burnt, and the ironwork recovered from the smoldering ashes, combustion being rapid because of the pitch covering, however that pitch could have simply been the result of a residual coal dust and water mix. The single wagon is an emulation of a creosoted finish, based on supplied pictures of the Chaldron in storage. -

Aye, that’s the latest, so at least that has ruled out one possibility causing the issue. -

As an aside, if the Elite is second hand, it’s a good idea to check that it’s running the latest firmware, to ensure ultimate compatibility with modern decoders. Thats not an official Accurascale comment, by the way, just advice from a fellow Elite user! -
The J67/68/69 ‘Buckjumper’, By Accurascale

Lads, lads, lads. Can we please just agree to disagree, and move onwards? In the words of my departed parents, "I don't care who started it, but it finishes now!" For the record, I'm happy to see discussions of what rolling stock would suit motive power, during any period. Indeed, with my researcher's/manufacturer's head on, it's most welcome, as it either confirms or denies trains of thought I may have had. I'm a firm believer in having rolling stock to match motive power, and I've done my fair share of making sure that that happens, but there are always considerations and compromises to be made. I'm unashamedly a big advocate of Industrial and Pre-Grouping stock, so as long as posts are relevant to the topic in question (so GER=GER, NBR=NBR, GNR=GNR, GWR=GWR etc, etc), I'm happy to see conversations develop. It's approaching Christmas, and if ever there there was a time to be thoughtful and respectful to each other, it is now. All the best, Paul.- 500 replies

They were, yes, and that was the rationale behind doing them as well. -

Unfortunately, your post contains a statement that nails the subject on its head @Jol Wilkinson "considered more commercially viable"! There are many, many subjects of rolling stock that I would like to see modelled (if not by us, then someone else reliable), but the defining criteria is will they sell in a quantity that delivers a profit for the manufacturer. Sometimes there will be successes, like the Chaldrons, but sometimes a project will be canned, even after its been pared back for costs, as happened to me at H, where the Reid coaches were cancelled after we'd done the research and the CAD.- 500 replies

The wagons in Pack Q will be correct to the Batch 2 conversions, with plated doors and extra horizontal bracing struts, however these parts were not fitted to the decorated samples (which are based on the first EP). Once we receive the updated EP for these, we will update across the usual channels. The research is sound in that there are three batches, with the third batch being very much different to the first two batches, with higher sides, greater capacity etc. Best wishes, Paul.

I applaud your taste James, the Mondeo ST24 was an absolute beast to drive, and so elegant too! A particular favourite of mine.

Oh, believe me, it is for one of us 😆 The era that marked the final hurrah for proper BTCC racing, before aero and ballast spoiled the racing!

It’ll need a complete repaint Rob - the current livery is Stratford’s version of the GER and it’s wrong in body colour, and lettering colour and shading. -
