  1. Nice picture! I was looking for the conversion kit for steam heating compartment on them but it's no longer available it seems, looks like a scratch-build is needed for it. I have a few spare proto GP9 shells bought for parts so the plan is to cut some of the smaller doors from those to make the heating compartment extension on the GP7's. I've got a pair of proto GP7's without dynamic brakes which will get modified into the NJdot locos, and an old AHM GP18 which will get converted into an unpowered CNJ "Red barron" GP7p. There are also some old E8's that need the NJdot repaint too.
  2. No longer needed, got a couple cheap on ebay.
  3. So I've decided to go with a sheet of 5mm ply on top of the entire shelve, then use a hole saw where the motors will sit. The reason I went this way is to raise the track slightly so I can use a cassette based fiddle yard.
  4. For the time being I've just paid £3 for an old Bachmann F7 shell on ebay, purely so I can chop the fans out of it. That will give me enough for the second loco, and will do the job till I find some of the cannon or Athearn fans.
  5. Thanks for the thought but I need the complete fan casting, the plan is to backdate some gp18's into gp7's which requires 4 small fans vs 2 big fans.
  6. So after some digging I've found out that the CNJ blue was indeed the same as the B&O blue, however that is not the color NJDOT used for these locos. The blue used was the same as the Erie Lackawanna "bluebird" livery as seen on U34ch locos. Now I think I have found a match for it in "ford ontario blue", I've got a spray can of this which I will experiment with. I have a feeling it will need a black undercoat to get the look I want. Edit: I've no idea why this pic is upside down.
  7. Hi all, I've got a pair of gp7s that I want to repaint into NJDOT blue and silver. Now what I'm not sure of is what blue it actually was? In the photos I've seen it seems to similar to the blue used by the central new jersey railroad GP40p'S, which if I'm correct was actually B&O blue (the B&O were running the CNJ at this point in time). Anybody know what color it really was, and if there is something like a Halfords color that would be a match.?
  8. So I've just bought a job lot of details west HO detailing parts on ebay which has a set of 4 of the fans I need included, so I have enough to do one loco. Checking postage rates from the Canadian suppliers it's a little better, but I'm still looking at $30 postage for another set. Will keep you all posted if I find a cheap way of shipping parts over.
  9. Thank you all for the pointers, I'll have a look through the websites and see what I can find. It does baffle me why postage on some of these things is so expensive, even a decal sheet is $20 to send across the pond!
  10. Hi all, is there a UK supplier for US outline loco details? I need some 36" roof fans for detailing some GP7's I'm working on, I could get them from the US but the postage is crippling.
  11. Thanks for that, looks like it will fit in the space I have. If you've got a cheap rough one going I'd be interested in that. I just want it to for the basic structure, I plan on altering the windows about then wrapping the thing in slaters plastikard.
  12. Thanks, but is it 6.3 wide or 7.7? I'm not too worried about the roof overhang, it's the building itself I need the width of.
  13. Hi all. does anyone have one of the old metal art deco signal boxes they could measure for me please? It looks like it could be converted into a London transport signal cabin, but I'm not sure if it will fit on the end of my platforms due to the width. Thanks in advance.
  14. If you bin the outer crossover it's very close to Seironim, I prefer it to Minories.
  15. I never knew that existed! Will have to seek it out next time I'm in the area, I may or may not pull a rubber glove over my head for the photo.
  16. Now that I've got track on the board this question has popped up again. I'm thinking that as the diverging line is not a departure route it doesn't require a signal itself, but possibly a repeater signal for the platform starter might be used at the toe of the point? In theory there would be no reason to pass the point if the platform starter isn't cleared, so I don't think a separate signal would be required. I'm happy to learn though!
  17. Thanks for that, I did wonder about using a hole saw to cut all the way through the shelf and just gluing a ply sheet across the entire board. I spent some time chatting to yourself and the operators of Greenford Broadway at last years Knowl hill show about the benifits of the lack shelf, thought it about time I had a go myself!
  18. Hi all. A question for those of you that use IKEA's finest to build your layouts, how best to mount point motors? Ideally I'd like them recessed inside the shelf, but the top surface doesn't look thick enough to screw into.
  19. I'll probably buy one anyway as I love the films, so as you say just a case of whatever gauge 0-4-0 chassis is the closest fit.
  20. Depending on the size these turn out to be it might be possible.
  21. So Corgi have announced they are going to produce the famous train set chase scene from the "wrong trousers" film. No details on the scale yet, but who's going to be the first to motorise it for a laugh? Link For anyone that hasn't seen the film here it is:
