I was hoping to have sent for mine Rob, but it`s all on temporary hold while I get used to giving my four year old Dachsund her insulin twice a day now that she has suddenly become a diabetic!!!!

I think I mentioned that I was also building a Class 13 Master and Slave Tinsley shunter.  It was intended to be a one off but I've been contracted to build the other 2 (there were 3 in all).  I'm getting organized so maybe I could make a thread on it.

Hi All, well I guess this is goodbye.  My loco is finished and, at the time of writing this message, it is winging its way to UK for eventual display and probably sale, at The O Gauge Exhibition in early December at Reading.  Good luck all of you who are continuing the monthly building program or just collecting the issues.

A bit of self motivation on the home straight These last couple of weeks and now I'm pretty close for finishing the Job. Nameplate, numbers, worksplates, brake linkage all in place.  just the drawbar hook for the front and buckeye coupling for the tender, draincock pipes for the cylinders and I'm done with it.

Hello all.  I, too, have been a little lax.  Poor health, lack of enthusiasm, partially due to the ridiculously hot summer, and other people breathing down my neck.  I finally received a few long overdue parts from suppliers and was able to complete the valve gear assembly.  It all runs nice and smoothly.  The Chassis is from JPL Models and needed modifying to fit under the Body. The thickness of the sideskirts in the area of the cylinders required that the cylinders be fabricated in slimline form to fit.  Looks like I'm going to have to re-spray the Body because it's been knocked about a bit during the last year while I was building 013 shunters and GWR classes.

What is the colour of green for the Union of South Africa?-Ihave read it was Brunswick green,but this seems darker than what it runs today

Brunswick Green is actually not a colour at all.  The true Definition and actual colour is RAL 6007 Bottle Green.

Hi guys, I've getting on with my Body These last weeks.  Still waiting on the JPL Chassis. Had to put the pinstripes on one at a time since I didn't have any red/white stripes. Wait til you have to do it.   What a Job.

30801, Your drop plate linking the cab to the tender floor is mounted too low.  See pic of my cab on Page 14.

Finally got up the courage to get it done.  Quite pleasing.

Morning all.  I've been doing a bit more on my Mongrel, namely the Tender Chassis.  Since I dont have a drawing of the underside, I went ahead and made one from general memory.  This is not supposed to be 100% accurate.... it's a working model and  made so bits wont fall off if it is handled.  I will spray it black and fit wheels and brakeshoes later, I left it grey for photographic purposes.

Hi Rob, as regards Plan 'B', I have the answer for you.  I've aready used this idea on LNER 10000, The Hush Hush, and A3 60097 Humorist. It works well.  Whitemetal A3 smokebox door from JPL Models.

Good day all.  Hope everybody had a good and relaxing Xmas.  I've been doing some work on my Mongrel Mallard and thought I might share it with the Group.  I Chose to use a cast backhead with all the pipework in the casting.  Reason for this is that this will be a model which its owner can play with and not have to worry about fiddly bits keep falling off when the superglue becomes brittle. I found a nice pic of the Flaman Speed Recorder on Google, so I copied and reduced it with photoshop and then printed it out to make the face under the seat.

Received approval to join this morning.  No Problem at all.

I clicked to join and it tells me 'It is pending'.  We'll see.   Maybe I'm not wanted.

That looks absolutely great. What method did you use?  Puts a whole new perspective on the possibilities.

I think you are asking me.  Oh yes, i love a bit of skirt.   Oh, that's not what you meant.  I spent several hours on the phone to a Trader who specializes in 0 Gauge parts for scratchbuilders last week.   Like us, he thinks this Body is excellent and has a lot of potential for modification. To that end, he is undertaking several modifications to his existing range of A4 parts and specifically tailoring them to fit this bodyshell..... namely a completely modified Chassis among other things.  I will be building the prototype for him and, as parts become available I will fit and photograph them for all to see.  There will be...and already are, so many bodies floating about that the potential to make a robust running model are endless.   

The Problem with the sideskirts is in hand and a cut out version will be available eventually.  As it is...only 4 locos were built with double chimneys pre war.... , Mallard,  Capercaillie (9/42 Charles H. Newton), Seagull,  Peregrine (3/48 Lord Faringdon),  so the selection is somewhat small.  Once a pair of cut out sideskirts are available, the choice will be endless.... well you'll have 34 choices.

Couple of tips here.  Remove paint by all means. check the butt Joints and file or clean up...make sure they fit squarely. The left side is not bad, but elongate the screw holes and positioning hole towards the back a tad until the gap Closes at the front.  The right side is pretty bad by comparison.  Again, Slot the screw holes and clean up the butt joint so that it closes the gap squarely.  The tiny gap at the back can be filled in with a piece of plasticard later.  It's really no big deal.  A bit of time and effort is all that is needed.  I cant wait until these given up projects start appearing on Ebay.  I will be building at least two more.   Here's my Single Chimney.  Parts are available if one knows who to ask.

I've had a relatively quite week waiting for parts, which finally arrived, but I'm not really getting any further, since the locomotive will take a lot more time than the tender.  By the way, out of curiosity, does anybody know which parts will be in the next Issue(s)?  Anyway I got the Chassis fitted and the coalspace built.  Axleboxes look nice and sprung buffers.

That is so true.  Fortunately some of us can do that.  It is so satisfying to be able to solve modelling problems by simply building the required parts.

Well Done B.P.   Was the tender a kit or scratchbuilt?  I still have to make and fit the coal space.  I'm waiting for a tender Chassis from JPL Models so I can drill the baseplate floor and get the nuts soldered in place before building over them.  It's weird how the buying public are so finnicky about somethings like plastic and metal. So bloody hard to get them to part with thier money sometimes.
