  1. The price of shipping from the States sometimes puts me off buying from there as an example I decided to look at fixing a noisy Bachmann USA loco but the postage on a simple motor was more than the price of the motor itself which begs the question why do some charge stupid shipping rates. Its sad to see the likes of model junction closing and less and less american train shows over here there was a brilliant one in Crewe at the heritage center but it seems to have gone makes me wonder if its dying off

You might look up Montana Rail for prototype inspiration just south of Alberta....

Cheers autocoach will check it out for inspiration every little helps in getting the layout to work and be enjoyable. On a side note an Xmas competition at a local model train show i entered I won and this was the prize i had picked to enter for on the entry sheet an Accurail 3 bay covered hopper in B&O scheme quite nice detail for the first time owning one

  3. I have finally decided to give the layout I currently use a name and purpose so here it goes. The Alberta Pacific Railway runs on an ex Canadian Pacific line serving several industries within the local town and serves the local community at the end of the line. I have decided to have 2 eras 1970-1985 with the line still in CP ownership with maroon locomotives and the second era 1985 - early 2000s when the line is slowly being shut down when the APR purchases the line and they use a mix of preserved locos and loaned locomotives alongside various rolling stock. This gives me an opportunity to run all of my stock i have stored away that wasn't era specific and get a few more items allowing the sessions to become more fun and enjoyable

  4. I wonder if contacting someone like Chris' Code 3s on facebook to do some transfers for the sides of the Churnet Valley Kitchen Car for a MK1 Hornby coach then scan them print out a copy cut it out and use it as a template to mask things off or cut things out. Then I could use the vinyl decal on a future project perhaps if i find this is too messy and complicated. Can you also get blank coach sides somewhere as a starting point rather than spend time filling and chopping. Might reboot this project over Xmas alongside other layout related projects

  5. A bit of advice on far of a depth should i drill with the correct drills as per the instructions to make the various grab handles look and sit correct plus how would i go about fitting the wire i need to paint yellow onto the snow plough on the Atheran model (the one with the U shaped ends). I asked this question on a Facebook group and got everything but the correct answer to start this weekend. I need to fit the grab handles on the rear (the  ones that go up the yellow rear) the curved one (behind the rear fan) the front, top and one side grab irons, the wipers and the step ones. I have a decent Ron's Trains and Things video for fitting the air hoses to the plough i shall watch but i need to know how far to drill on the body before i stop for the mounting holes to make these various parts sit at the correct distance from the body for it to look correct as iv never done thing before and seen some excellent stuff here and thought id give it a go for myself

  6. This detailing kit for CSX SD40-2 6126 arrived today https://www.modeljunction.info/detailing-parts/49299-detail-kit-for-athearn-emd-diesels-gp38-2gp40-2sd40-2.html?search_query=190-524&results=1 . Towards the end of the moth i will order 2x of the ditch lights to do front and rear and the yellow paint then the CSX loco should look a lot more decent for an Athearn model. Any tips for doing the wire on the front or when fitting the ditch lights when i order them up also noticed in the instructions i will need CSX Grey for the curved grab handle around the rear fan housing if i want to add it and the CSX blue for the nose rails. I see it came with wipers which is good but i think i may fit most of the grab handles and the wipers but not the lift rings

  7. Got these detailed part on the way this week for the locomotive https://www.modeljunction.info/detailing-parts/49299-detail-kit-for-athearn-emd-diesels-gp38-2gp40-2sd40-2.html?search_query=190-524&results=1 . 8. Detailing a SD40-2 I purchased this month and had a few questions i thought this would be a good knowledgeable place.

    1) Wipers are they always black or are they usually the cab colour

    2) What colour would be closest to CSX yellow if i do the grab irons on the rear of the body

    3) Best way to do non functional ditch lights if they are missing on the model

    4) Do any preserved lines run as both preserved and to service the industry along it within Canada

  9. Been adding details to this Athearn CSX GP40-2 I acquired at the start of the month looks like its getting there slowly. Looking to possibly add the wire on the plough and hoses to finish it off unless iv missed anything might add the rest of the truck details at a later date

  10. Found these 2 images surfing the net looking for better angles to complete the template interesting there in a sort of SR green.

May need to rejig the template looking at these but if i copy items from other carriages to place over the top of the side template might just give me the enthusiasm to crack on and complete it before ordering any donor vehicles. If i can get the template looking right i can then look at making a start on dismantling the RMB, looking at glazing and paint then ebay hunting for a suitable donor and hopefully finish the project

  11. I have sort of started work on creating paper templates for the sides of the RK 80030 to match the layout before deciding to purchase a mk1 maybe 2 to cut and shut around to match once I am happy with the templates.  Grey primer will be purchased then once the models are acquired i will commence the project but in the meantime I have been researching the interior layout to start with whilst i wait.

August will see new plates ordered for the LNER V2 loco and the purchase of the extra coaches for the task alongside other things to progress this along for a change. The RMB will be stripped ready for paint removal and application of primer but on a side note recommendations on name plates or removal of paint from Hornby coaches
