My go to photo site is Bahnbilder.de

I tend to find that containers  (deep sea type) run in block trains of containers, separately from other intermodal type - ie lorry semi trailers (HUPAC - style- and other 'swap body' type containers

Thanks I will take a look I’m not a 100% prototypical on what I will operate on my upcoming layout but I do like a correct looking train I have 4 double sdggmrs loaded with deep sea containers (thanks for reminding me the correct title) and wanted to add one more wagon I noticed a reasonable price on a double well wagon with hgv trailers on as wasn’t sure if it was correct ,,so now maybe 2 trains a container and swap body!

A lot of the trains you see on the Rhine route are effectively 'company trains', so will be loads of the same type to/from the same operators ship either in the Med or on the North Sea coast, so they aren't quote as mixed as you might imagine.

The number of LKWalter blue trailers an swap bodies is noticeable, they come all their way from Italy across Switzerland and Germany to France or Belgium on rail, before being off loaded, to clutter up the motorways of Britain.

I remember several Ewals Cargo Care block trains a few years ago on the Rhine

Back in Berlin that evening, I happened to look out of the train window as we approached Freidrichstrasse Station and made a rapid exit there to investigate what I'd seen. Seems there had been some form of Public Transport event there during the day, which included some former East Berlin buses. This distinctive looking double decker was then departing......

...though I would come across that particular one again in 2015, but not in Berlin!

The next day was a Sunday, so I just had an ABC zone ticket again and mainly went off to be a Tourist for the morning.  Changing trains at Lichtenburg, these ex DR electrics were stabled at the station.....

For the next year or so they seemed to be a permanent fixture there (as did a DR Intercity unit), so how often they actually worked trains is a mystery!

Off Potsdammer Platz, there was a reminder of slightly earlier times........

As it was a Sunday in September, it meant that the Berlin Technical Museums reserve transport collection was open to the public (free admission) as they open it on Sundays in September and October each year. This is kept in a building some distance to the south of the main museum and they were running shuttle buses and trains between the two sites.

There is a lot crammed in there and the number of people visiting can hinder photos, but a selection of some of the things there will follow....

    Reichspost electric van......

Interested to see a preserved  early double-decker that’s British built in Berlin I’m not too sure if somewhere I have a plastic kit of this bus by Alt Berlin and how things turn full circle with Alexander Dennis been the supplier to BVG Berlin of their latest low flow double-deckers

  5. On researching some modern day DBAG freight train consists via YouTube uploads or watching the Mierlo-Hout  live stream WebCam I see that most intermodal container trains do not have any wagons with truck trailers on them I.e. HUPAC swap bodies. And vice versa if I see a HUPAC/swap body type of train I don’t see any articulated container wagons other than the odd wagon with a couple of 20ft tanktainers  mixed in with them  can anyone  confirm it to me this is the standard practice?

(When  I use the term HUPAC  I basically mean HGV trailer loaded into a well wagon) thank you

  6. I don’t actually model French SNCF myself I did 30 years ago when the Lima  and Jouef  Ranges we’re pretty much available here in the UK and the detail and locomotive drives well improved and in northern France where I would visit a shop in central Rouen  I now model modern DBAG With the proposed layout based on the north German plane near the Netherlands border I had been looking for a while to complete a rake of NME silo wagons in the livery of  a large agricultural supplier based in the area I am modelling by the name of Bohnhorst, The models were produced a few years ago and I’m now extremely difficult to find online in Germany you see the odd ones on eBay that are sometimes inflated prices however Google search came up with a shop in France by the name of Maketis Who had several of the wagons in stock I placed an order for three and a TILLIG point The items arrived today via Parcelforce excellent quick service (with the exception of Parcelforce taking my tax and VAT and not authorising it to be delivered two days ago ) good communications with the  shop emailing me they  advised me one of the wagons was broken and they would have to send a replacement with a different serial number and was it okay which he was so. In all a good experience with the shop and can recommend them on another note I placed an order with another French online shop with some hard to find rolling stock Pierre Dominique several days ago and have not had any communication at all just the order is in preparation can anybody reflect are they pretty good at stock control as the wagons I have ordered are out of production for about 10 years now and they’re an exceptional price I just don’t want my 200+ euros floating around the system!
    thanks

  7. Jumping on this thread , whein I last modelled HO DB  (note no AG) in the early 90s just after reunification the IC colour scheme was white with red w window surrounds and a pink and just belowa N wagons were the same style with mint  Green and S-Bahn light and dark orange etc etc , so after a few years of girls, marriage and  kids I return to modelling  now DB-AG and some private railways , besides the white and red IC livery we have here and the Regio red I do have a rake of red window surrounds with matching steuerwagon IC cab car similar to Autozug and Nachtzug livery but they don’t have this branding , any ideas of era and area and operations used on please the cab car (Roco 452620) make nacht and autozug out the equation ?

  8. I’m always on the look out for models to complement my proposed North German HO diesel layout that’s loosely based on the Westerland area, I’m waiting for my NOB married coach set from ASM and I’ve also got a 2700 disspolok on order.

On a YouTube reconnaissance mission I noted that CFL operate numerous freights around the area so I duly sourced the correct loco from Mehano in blue and silver/grey.
I’m not sure if  HVLE operations are on the Marschbahn  but I do find their livery attractive and varied motive power , so set about looking for a loco to join the roster, I had seen these locos from ADE a few years ago being heavily discounted together with some trailer hupac style wagons from a German retailer I purchased a few wagons as at the time I was modelling ÖBB but not the loco. So when doing a search on eBay.de for HVLE I was lucky to find this newly listed BR285 from ADE in as new boxed condition. I’ve been modelling HO for 40 years and remember when ADE coaches were the cutting edge of quality and detail in the 80s but what happened to them?
my question is what happened to the BR285 loco tooling from ADE I’d say it’s slightly better than my BRAWA Br245 locos I have in detail. I see ESU also have the TRAXX diesels as do TRIX are any of theee the old ADE tooling? It seems that some manufacturers are sharing tooling now like Hobbytrade-Roco dostos and here in the uk accurascale taking the Hattons 66 over but does this happen in Germany?

Interesting to see that Lemke are distributing the new ASM range I’ve got an original Nord Ost See Bahn married 4 coach set on order that I’ve been told is due imminently but still waiting after several years however I do see that the additional 2 coach set are  available so maybe it’s on the horizon with the matching 2700  loco I don’t know if the loco is Former hobby trade casting as this range seems to have vanished the double-deckers now part of the Roco catalogue

  10. Just about to start an lay some planning track of my upcoming layout using code 83 Tillig for my point work and flexi to get my required amount I’ve had a source  from about six different shops over Europe and One here in the UK i’ve managed to get all my 27 points and 2 single slips required for the scenic area including station ,silo facility and warehouse areas . However one item I do not see in recent Tillig  listings is a 3 way point that I would want to use in my staging area I do see Roco offer one item number 72454 I wonder how the railhead matches up to tillig rail  they are both code 83 and I don’t know about the profile of the rail head to prevent any derailments anybody any advice thank you

  11. I’ve got a rake of new PIKO and they are pretty reasonable but i also do have an ACME bar car looks of in the rake , I’ve added a

couple of photos so you can see my phone camera isn’t brilliant but  the shades of white are a little different top is the ACME WRkmz and bottom is PIKO Bvmmsz incidentally contikits have some of the ACME in stock pretty rare now

A lot of stock has been sold in the last few hours. The site has experienced heavy usage.

Take the tin foil hat off.

Very much so I’d placed 10 pieces of code 75 concrete flexi and five points in my basket  logged into my account after some searching for more items   and by this time all I ended up is with one yard of flexi, just wish all the staff the best,

  15. While watching one of the Czech live streams I noticed the Leo Express EMU sets stopping at the station so thought I’d take a look at their web site, I noticed that they have a restaurant service, not sure if this is on the FLIRT sets but some unusual items I don’t know if this due to poor translation,,
