  1. My Idea is similar to yours. Although I am not a train simulator user, I do know about Victory Works GT3 sim and I was planning on contacting them as to how they obtained the sounds for their project. I'm guessing that they sampled an early industry type gas turbine rather than sounds from the actual train, either way I plan on contacting Legomanbiffo to see if he can tackle the job if not then I plan on purchasing a LokProgrammer to enter the sounds into a LokSound V4.0 but this will take time since the none sound side of the controller chip will be new to me and will require reading and experimenting but I am not in a rush.

I suspect you are right about the Victory Works sim sounds, but after listening to 7 1/4 gauge model, that sounded remarkably like the sim version, it seems they got the unique direct drive aspect of the GT3 down right... I did also try to contact Legomanbiffo and put forward the idea of creating a new GT3 project but have not received a reply yet.. Programming a LokSound V4.0 and building your own project sounds like an interesting challenge, and as you say, there is the drive side of the chip to deal with!

  2. Thanks John, I did not know the caps where included with the chassis. I think I know what to do for the sound project and I have located some handrails from my spares box but have no idea what type of wheels to purchase, the variety is bewildering.

Hi Chris I would like to put an order in for the GT3 Special as quoted in post 83, would the price be £62+2.50, could I send you a cheque along with the details as mentioned on your website.

Hi Abadacus, being the one who innocently started this thread nearly 2 years ago, and overwhelmed by the responses, suggestions, advise, and even parts and details being made available, I am intrigued by what you mentioned about a sound project.  I contacted John at YouChoos, who does bespoke DCC sound projects, and he was supportive but unable to commit the resources to such a project. I had suggested finding some of the same sounds that have recently appeared on a sim driving program for the GT3. What are your ideas?

  3. Hi all,

Seeing as I started this thread 18months ago, and thanks to the wonderful responses from so may everyone, I am well on my way to a Better GT3!! But I thought I'd reach out one more time on this topic and  ask if anyone had any ideas about... sound. This is the first experimental prototype loco I seriously have considered adding DCC sound to, because it is such an interesting and unique beast. There have been some wondeful sims released, featuring the GT3 in various modes, from start up sequences to running, and I was wondering where those sounds came from...

    Over to you!!

  4. I confess to a certain embarrassment here !

I do know that recent unanticipated occurences, unconnected with this project, have distracted the principals involved.

I have forwarded your expressions of interest, in the hope that a marketable product can be offered soon.

Beyond that, I am unable to act further or provide more details, I'm afraid.

I apologise for having unintentionally raised expectations, which have not to date been fulfilled.

The one positive in all of this is that I have been prompted to produce the necessary transfers, which are selling well.

    Regards,

    John Isherwood.

    John Isherwood.

    Hi John,

I  was very happy to see the transfers are out, and will be ordering my own set soon... BUT like the others, eagerly awaiting the chassis kit when it comes out!  Add my voice to others in gently persuading the powers that be to make it happen soon!!

  5. This sounds very interesting, i have been thinking about modelling this for some time.

I hope the chassis will cater for all gauges and offer compensation/springing/CSB since I am working in P4.

One idea that has recently appeared is to make the loco springs as a separate etch, forming a keeper plate and pickup assembly allowing the wheels to be assembled once only and dropped out if needed.

I look forward to further info on this,

    martin

Just caught this... a month late! Good to hear that the GT3 chassis will be available soon, Ian! I am an EM modeller, so I note Martin's suggestions with interest.

  6. Good evening everyone,

Oddly enough - in view of the first comment on this thread - this is also my very first post as another new member of RMweb!  It seems that GT3 has quite a following.

I joined this excellent website in order to ask essentially the same question as NorthLondon had in his original post.  I hope the individuals concerned don't mind, but rather than sending private messages individually (as, indeed, I may have to do if they don't happen to see this post), I thought I'd first pose these questions in public so that others can add any additional information.

    My questions are:

    - NorthLondon: Was Ian from Huddersfield able to supply you with etchings?  If not, have you found an alternative source?

    - John Isherwood: Are you able to reveal more about these "mystery items"?

    - And one for the forum: Can anyone recommend an experienced modeller whom I could commission to build this kit for me?  The simple truth of the matter is that I'm returning to model railways after an involuntary haitus of several years (I haven't had space in my home for a layout until recently), and I know my limits.  I can handle buildings and scenery, but I fear that constructing a detailed kit of this nature is beyond my level of skill!  GT3 would be the pride of my fleet, and consequently, I'd rather pay somebody who knows what they're doing to make a really good job of the locomotive, rather than stubbornly attempt it myself and be forever dissatisfied with the result.

Any information or advice on any of the above points would be most gratefully received - many thanks in anticipation!

    Gordon

Hi Gordon, never could raise Ian from Huddersfield, so not etchings thus far. Anyone have an idea how to reach him?

  7. Gordon,

I can reveal one of the mystery items - see Sheet BL149 at http://www.cctrans.org.uk/latest.htm .

As to the other item - not at this time, except to warn that the RTR chassis recommended for this kit does NOT have the correct wheelbase.

    Regards,

    John Isherwood,

    Cambridge Custom Transfers.

Hi John, this certainly is a good development! Thanks for this and I will be ordering a set... just as soon, as I get a start on this loco. Trouble is, the chassis problem is still a problem, and I am taking your advice to wait and see...

  8. The etchings are well worth obtaining.

Don't rush to start on the model, and certainly don't use a Black 5 or Standard 5 chassis - they're both far from being the correct wheelbase.

A little patience may result in the construction being somewhat easier, as several useful items are under development.

Can't say any more at present - but watch this space.

    Regards,

    John Isherwood.

Thanks John!! I was about to start to comprimising... But that sounds hopeful - please let us know..!

  9. i built one a number of years back and scratch built the missing bits, i have not seen the new mould does it have the chequer plate on the running plate? i did not fit it to mine as i did not see it in photos but then had corespondance from a gentleman who had worked upon GT3 in its brief life. If i can offer any help on colours etc i am happy to help as best i can.

    Richard

Thanks Richard for the reply!! I am at work but will check the chequer plate on the new casting when I get home and get back to you. I did see a very good model of a GT3 in Gauge 3, and it did have the chequer plate running plate nicely modelled, so I assume the builder must have verified this detail as the rest of the model looked spot on...

Ian from Huddersfield RM is "Macgeordie" on RMweb, and so you could try a pm to him.

    John.

    Thanks John!!

  10. This is my first post, as I am a brand new member. I recently purchased a test shot of the newly revamped moulds of the GT3 from Golden Arrow Models. I discovered that it came without the etched cab windows, cab number plate and other fittings that apparently were available at one time. On enquiry, Chris at Golden Arrow mentioned that I should look on RMweb for "Craigwelsh", as someone who used to supply those supplementary bits several years back. Does anyone know of him or know any alternate source of GT3 detailing parts?
