I have just read a book on the tracks from Bangor to Amlwch. It looks like most passing loops were fitted with a set of catch points. Would the purpose of this be to stop trains following on the one just passing in the loop?

Your welcome, its hard when the house is warm and the garage or workshop cold. But modelling takes many forms, i can switch from model yachts to plastic kits or anything. My wife thinks i am barmy but its all fun and satisfying pastimes.

That's a really nice build.

Currently completing a rebuild of a 5" Brittania. I had it running last year and it showed up a lot of changes that are needed.

I am working on the tender at the moment to get it in shape, adding detail and correcting faults of the original assembly.

I really enjoyed it. I have only briefly visited that area and that was in January last year so seeing it again made both myself and my wife want to visit. As per my heading picture I have an old roundhouse loco I bought at an auction. Polished and sat in the conservatory! My wife asked why I did not have a track to run it on, it's all sounding promising for the engine

Hi Ross, your layout is coming along nicely. I have a similar design in hand at the moment, although I am some way behind you in the construction. Mine too will be dcc as this is new technology to me since I last played around with model railways.

Spitfire solid couplings are the safest way in larger scales and possibly a requirement of the HSE.

Dougs gang are the GLR 5 groups and hang out in the vale of Pickering, they run scale 5" trains and of course engines. It is run in every way as a proper scale railway. Not my thing as i prefer pulling trains with people on. Still in 5" guage and 3 1/2".

I model 5" guage as the size is more suited to my 'fingers and thumbs' approach of clumsiness.

For my pleasure i travel to llandudno to be with the north Wales model engineering society. I find that quite a few members do all the scales, from 00 upwards. So long as its engines and trains Were all happy.

I had a 00 layout in the loft, but after i broke my foot getting in and out of the loft i thought i would call it a day on the smaller gauges, that was about 4 years ago.

My wife has just been on holiday in NZ for the last three week, so to kill my boredom i divided our double garage in two by putting a stud wall up, 2/3 for the wifes car and 1/3 for me.

Thats left a dilema, a 12' section of wall with about 18" of spare width behind my machine tools, mmmmm wonder what will fit in there?

Browsing this excellent web site i found a post by a Silver Sidelines who had posted pages out of an old magazine on flicker and there it was a small compact layout that can be added to at a later stage.

So that will fill the gap, but i had better finish the wall first.
