  1. I much prefer c/o biased spdt or biased off spst toggle switches. Jim
  2. Just to clarify, in Scotland it is the sellers responsibility to provide a 'home pack' which includes a full property survey, including energy performance, etc. This avoids buyers having to get a survey done and then finding their offer rejected and having this happen perhaps several times on different properties. Solicitors then have to check planning permissions etc. Jim
  3. Please, for UK read England and Wales. As I understand it, under English law, contracts are not exchanged until the date of entry, whereas under Scots law this is done at a much earlier stage, albeit after due diligence has been done by the buyer's solicitor. The date of entry is part of the contract and will be an agreed date in the future, hence the jeopardy for either party pulling out at the last minute. Jim
  4. One of our group members has made up a little test circuit, housed in a plasticard box holding the led+resistor and an dpdt switch, with crock clips to the SA on one set of leads and a 9v battery socket on the other. Plug in the battery and clip onto the stay alive, throw the switch to charge the SA, then the other way, and the led should glow and then fade. Jim
  5. Cannot understand the English system of house sales. Up with us, can't say 'here' as we're in Portugal at the moment, contract is made when the offer is accepted. If either party pulls out they can be liable for any additional cost the other may have. Jim
  6. Another, rather crude, way is to simply lift the loco of the track while it is running. If the SA is working, the wheels will keep on turning for a short time. How long depends on the size of the SA. Jim
  7. Would be better in blue! Jim (windae picked)
  8. Can I ask why the gantry was so high and the signals suspended so far down from it? Jim
  9. For the avoidance of doubt, I am a proud Scot and also pleased to have just received my new passport confirming that I am a British Citizen! Jim
  10. That's the sort of thing I was meaning. Maybe I used the wrong name for it. Jim
  11. Have you tried using green scouring pad, cut (or torn and trimmed, depending how neat you want the hedge to be) into strips, then dressed with flock as foliage? Jim
  12. The S&DJR van was sent to Biggar wagon works and has emerged with proper couplings! 🙂 It will now be able to run around Kirkallanmuir with the other stock. Jim
  13. Sorry to take so long to respond to this. Other things taking up my time. On a 1961 Route plan in Jack Kernahan's book on the Cathcart Circle, the outer circle is still marked as 'up' and the inner as 'down' at Pollockshields West. so the changeover must have been when trains got back to Muirhouse Junction. Jim
  14. An S&DJR road van from Tucking Mill arrived at Kirkallanmuir on the morning goods earlier in the week, however, the town photographer has been having a rather busy time recently and was only able to attend and record its presence today. By this time the contents had been unloaded and taken over to the premises of Mr Greenlees, the licenced grocer, opposite the goods yard entrance (see post of 10th December 2021 - gosh, was it that long ago?) from where it is reported that sales are very satisfactory. Thanks again, Jerry. Jim
  15. Thanks, @JonathonAG. Believe it or not, it is an old tin of Humbrol labelled 'MC12 Prussian Dragoon Blue'! So presumably proper Prussian Blue! 😁 Jim
  16. Thanks, Ian. I have to say I agree with you on preference, but this seemed more appropriate for hauling the G & E set Jim
  17. Many years ago I was recommended to only use one screw to fix loco bodies to chassis. That way there's no chance of causing torsion. As long as the fixing point is a little way in from the end it will sit OK. If need be, at the other end have some 'guides' either side of the chassis to centralise the body. Where you are employing split frame collection, these need to be styrene, or other non-conducting material. Jim
  18. I can't recall off the top of my head, @St Enodoc and I'm away from home (in Anstruther) for the weekend, but I'll look it up when I get home. Jim
  19. You also had places like the Cathcart Circle where trains left Glasgow Central as up trains and became down trains as they ran round the circle and returned to Central. Jim
  20. I finish locos and coaches with Ronseal clear acrylic satin varnish. For wagons I use matt paints. Jim
  21. I always like to get a loco in working order before I start adding any details. Jim
  22. Fully agree there. In any case, the arms on your etch are too long to be GWR. There's were much shorter and stumpier. Jim
  23. Ah! That explains the intriguing email I received earlier this morning! Very kind of you Jerry. Jim
