  1. Paul What I am particularly pleased with is the banking of freights from Bath up Devonshire Bank and Lyncombe Vale with the banker coming off at the entrance to Combe Down tunnel and top of the climb out of Bath with the banker then dropping back down to Bath Junction. Always at least one session on each video Andrew
  2. Paul Glad that you are enjoying the videos. You have the form of the layout spot on. The concept is to run to timetable of the 50's and 60's up to closure hence the fiddle yard to Green Park station basis but I also installed a back loop to be able to just 'let them run' when the mood takes me. The centre of operations is of course Green Park station, yards and sheds. Trains arriving either from Bristol/North OR off the S&D at Bath Junction. The Midland line and the S&D (once its gone round the room) join together and dive down to the extensive fiddle yards below. Gradients are 1 in 50 as per the original line hence the S&D expresses are double headed AND south bound freights out of Bath have a banker up to the top of the climb at the entrance to Combe Down tunnel. So my model follows the real thing as much as possible. Minimum radius is 6' for the most part but there is a short section in Devonshire tunnel that is 5'6 Hope that this is of interest Andrew

  6. Apologies not been on RMWeb for a while. A diagramatical track plan plus a photo I took at Bath Green Park in early 1966 just as the line was closing. It has been a life long passion
  7. 8th SEPTEMBER 1962 60th ANNIVERSARY OF THE RUNNING OF THE LAST PINES EXPRESS ON THE S&D The Pines Express was synonymous with the S&D running every day throughout the year from the first Manchester - Bournemouth express workings of 1927. The Post War Summer timetable brought in the order of 27 up and down express workings on a Summer Saturday to the S&D from many diverse destinations in the Midlands and North of England. Some on the move for 8 or 9 hours! Add to this local workings, the odd relief working and the pigeon specials for which the line was famous and one can get a feeling of just how busy this line was particularly when you remember that parts of the line were single track creating potential for bottle necks when services were running late. The S&D was famous for its fearsome gradients which necessitated most express workings to be double headed on the northern section of the line and Bath shed was ‘organised chaos’ on these busy Saturdays. The 8th September 1962 was the last day of that years Summer service and also the last day of through express working on the S&D with all express workings being redirected to other lines. A packed video in which we watch the running of the last Pines Express on the 8th September together with many more express, local and freight movements. I am particularly grateful to Mike Arlett for arranging permission from Julian Peters to reproduce one of Ivo Peters famous pictures of 92220 on Bath Green Park shed on that fateful day My thanks to Phil and Mel for bringing 92220, 92245 and 73087 for filming as part of this video Enjoy Andrew SIT BACK, TURN UP THE VOLUME AND ENJOY. And here is my offering of the same locos on shed at my Bath Green Park

Referred to locally as the Sheffield Pines running 10 minutes ahead of The Pines down the S&D The express stands over the Avon river bridge. On the left Midland Bridge yard and on the right 3 Mk 1's stabled in one of the two sidings between the main lines and the Midland loco shed.
