  1. Perhaps it shouldn't have been singled in the first place. False economy?
  2. Any prospect of an entry into 0 Gauge? You know it makes sense! Terry
  3. The Chris Durrant book on Brighton Line signalling has a John Scrace photo from September 1965 also showing hopper wagons! As for when the yard ceased to function, it isn't clear from the book but there is a photo from October 1977 showing a large number of vans and another showing the rebuilt goods shed in August 1979 with the comment that 'even at this relatively late stage' it was 'still handling a considerable amount of parcels traffic from the Red Star offices next to the booking office in the station forecourt'. Certainly by this time the number of goods sidings had been much reduced as the 1977 photo shows that a large part of it was now a car park. I do remember when using the car park that some of the dividing barriers had been made using old lengths of rail. Terry
  4. According to to the advert in the current Gauge 0 Guild Gazette, Roxey Mouldings have taken over the Albion models range which included a D1 0-4-2. Perhaps a call to Dave at Roxey might be helpful? Terry
  5. I agree. I can't remember Tom speaking at all.
  6. I accept what is said about viable alternatives. Good luck to you all. Still not sure you'd accept a 'generic' loco though. Happy modelling everyone. Terry
  7. I can sort of see that. In the 60s we had people chopping up Triang celestories into southern coaches. You'd hope that half a century later it might be a bit better.
  8. Well perhaps it's also that most of us aren't that great in differentiating 9between types of coaches and indeed wagons. I'm as guilty as anyone in a way. My coaches and wagons are right, but there is no point rodding.
  9. OK. So I'm an 0 gauge modeller with no skin in the game. Over the last year or two I have been quite bemused the amount of interest in what are essentially freelance models (I know they are closer to some prototype coaches than others). So, does this mean that you just screw your eyes up and ignore the wrong bits? Would you accept a loco with such defects? I can sort of see how a freelance light railway could have this stock but not otherwise. My other problem is about lighting. I'm sure these coaches have wonderful interiors, but what's the point unless every other coach, building or street light on the layout has working lights? This is not a criticism, rule 1 is fine by me. Just don't really get it. Cheers, Terry
  10. I can scan both track plans from Illustrated Survey Of Southern Stations if you like. Terry
  11. I don't know about any kits. I've been doing O Gauge for about the last 35 years. Sorry. Terry
  12. Don't know if it's what you want but Bradley page 87 says 'commencing in May 1939 the smoke box wing plates were removed from all except nos. 138/49/53, 393/4'. Hope this helps, Terry
  13. William. I'm always following your progress though I rarely post stuff. Congratulations on being a father, interesting times ahead. Terry
  14. I put down carpet tiles on my concrete floor. All washable and not too expensive. Terry
  15. I've been watching developments from a distance and enjoying all the thinking that has gone into a project where, if I'm correct, not a sleeper has yet been laid. Sorry to muddy the waters. I seem to remember CJF introducing one of his monthly plans in the 60s with words to the effect that the only true backscene for a model train was smoky brickwork. I have to agree. Holborn v Caterham has only one winner! I'll look forward to seeing how this all pans out. All the best, Terry
  16. Just watching Paddington 2 again. Great line - 'I'm Jonathan Brown and I love steam trains'. Terry
  17. Bite the bullet, get out into the garage. Modern cars don't need them, lay some carpet tiles and some heating and thunderbirds are go! Terry
  18. Nah! The bus is waiting for passengers from the next train and the driver has gone in for a chat or a visit to the loo. Terry
  19. I rather like the idea of platform 1 only being used for passenger services during the morning and evening peaks and being used for parcels the rest of the time. That way it might suggest the gradual running down of the terminus on it's way to possible closure or a rebirth in future years that could tie in with the tramlink and/or Thameslink. Terry
  20. Great having a local wood merchant. They even cut it for you. In my opinion the best thing about this thread has been the research. Probably even more fun than making the actual layout. But then I am a historian, after a fashion. Really enjoying it, Terry
  21. Not sue if this is relevant, and you may well have seen the lower photo, but it too shows the first class accomodation. Terry
  22. So all those concerts I went to at Fairfield Halls never happened! Terry
  23. Good luck with this William, as always I'll follow your progress and thoughts. Terry
