  1. Good to see you back William. I suppose it all depends on what you want as an outcome. Is a continuous circuit a given, or would you be happy with end to end? There is always the option of sitting and watching trains go by, not forgetting the opportunity to run in engines over a long distance. I get the impression that for you it is the building and operating that is more important. I may be wrong of course. Terry
  2. This is most of it! Terry
  3. I hate to point this out, especially to those like me who lived through it, but the year Abbey Road was released is closer to WW1 than today. I'll get my coat. Terry
  4. And of course, when CJF drew a later version with added modules a small turntable facility was included. If built in sections it could be expanded at a later date if required, as well as for exhibitions. Terry
  5. Hi William, A lovely photo of Haywards Heath station. I have a suggestion. You have spent a lot of time thinking and planning along the lines of a HV/Minories concept. You have also said that a purpose built shed for the railway could follow in the fullness of time. As 4mm is the more viable option for the LCDR era how about building at least part of your terminus (or another segment of a larger layout) in the spare bedroom while building and accumulating the relevant stock? When you are in a position to move outdoors you would then have a head start on a full layout. I get the impression that the building of a model gives you at least as much pleasure of operation. By the way, I'm just around the corner from you in Lindfield, so if you ever need another pair of hands to help move stuff feel free to ask. Good luck, Terry
  6. I'll happily scan and email the drawing and photos if required. Terry
  7. I googled Southern Region publicity 1960s and found this. Apparently a 48 page booklet in, I think, 1962. Good luck! Terry
  8. Jack, I have the original edition of the HMRS livery register for the LSWR and Southern Railway. It makes no mention of any changes to dark brown and red ends, the only note about wartime changes being the decision in 1942 to reduce painting of wagons to a minimum and metal parts to be painted black. However, this book dates from 1970 so there must be more recent research! Cheers, Terry
  9. We went in 2015. As Adam says, the museum has got lots in it. We went to the Museum of Transportation after, quite interesting as it has vintage cars and other stuff as well as railway items. All the best Terry
  10. I presume you have considered this, but is there any scope for a lift out section to make a continuous run? Terry
  11. William, I can't remember if you have said this previously but is this intended to be a home layout just operated by yourself, or a home layout with several operators or an an exhibition layout? I love the idea of Edwardian trains but together with the task of building the stock needed there is also the complexities of movement. The 1925-39 option would seem to give a great variety of stock but also a simpler timetable. Of course, once you have laid third rail there could be no changing the period backwards. Your researches and deliberations have made for fascinating reading, but of course in the end it's your railway. I hope that whatever decision you come to results in a railway that satisfies you. All the best, Terry
  12. Keeping just the single slip would provide some extra movements of empty stock etc so might be fun. Possibly more fun the building the double slip! Terry
  13. That will be it for me. I won't put up with the lack of transparency nor the lack of dialogue from the current bunch. There are a couple of exceptions, but the majority are out of touch and are only concerned with keeping things as they are. Terry
  14. I think one of the problems is that the majority of the members do not access the forum and therefore are in complete ignorance of the issues. They get information from the Gazette and Guild News which are controlled by the Committee. It will wither and die without new blood. Terry
  15. We downloaded it Thursday morning. See if it's still on catch up/iPlayer. Terry
  16. If I remember rightly, when the GOG forum was started it automatically put your membership number on it. I've never bothered to change it but obviously others have. While I am a long time member I have been saddened and appalled by the tactics and behaviour of most of the current management to try to ensure that they or their cronies are elected at the forthcoming AGM. Most unlikely that I'll be renewing my membership. As many have pointed out, there is very little benefit to being a member that anyone new to O Gauge can't find online or with other organisations. The GOG simply hasn't moved with the times and most those in charge do not want change. Terry
  17. Brilliant. Always good to hear from Frankland. Terry
  18. There's been a recent thread on that, under Magazines I think. Terry
  19. I too could almost see this coming! Far better to change course now than get well into the project and then have a change of mind. Good luck with the next phase William, I shall look forward to following your planning and progress. Terry
  20. Well the two years are up, let's hope we don't wait much longer. Terry
