Out of curiosity - you've replaced a couple of the buffers - I assume one day you will run out of spare ones - are the parts available to rebuild them assuming they are something that can be rebuilt? Same with wheelsets? I believe they aren't fitted with tyres so once they are worn that's it? Are good spare ones knocking about still?

Depends on the buffer type to be honest. The OLEO ones are still somewhat current on the network so can be overhauled, but at a somewhat exorbitant cost. Unfortunately we are finding that some types can not be overhauled now.  Wheel sets if a suitable size can be machined down to a good profile, but obviosuly there comes a point where the wheelset becomes scrap. They can however can be overhauled, but the cost of it is eye watering. One of our brake vans sustained damage to its wheel sets, and the overhauller had to change the wheelset to be monobloc (all one piece of metal including the tyre) to a tyred wheelset! The tyres I think ended up coming from South Africa!

  2. I can help you with that today :)

Normally, we make a template in Photoshop on a lifesize canvas using pictures from sources like Paul Bartlett or Flickr, or even scanned from Wagon books. This is then printed on several sheets of A4 paper and stitched together using tape.

Chalk or charcoal is applied to the back of the stitched together template, which is then positioned on the wagon and the printed letters are drawn around to transfer the chalk to the wagon.

The mixed freight looked superb on Saturday. I didn't see any obvious activity at Quorn or anywhere to part with money.

Thank you LNERGE. Unfortunately we didn't have many of us on site on Saturday, sorry we missed you! Dave had other commitments and I was still flying back from Poland for work.

    Here's this week's update.

  4. The jobs list on the tank is now dwindling, and we'll soon be onto our next project. See what we've got up to this weekend!

Been reading you posts for a little while now, and find your posts very interesting.

one question comes to mind and sorry if I have missed the answer if it has already been covered. How often do the wagons and coaches get a full repaint? Is there a set time or more has and when required time permitting.

In answer to your question, there is no set plan for the coaches or the wagons they just get done as an when required ☺️
