  1. Just ordered from Hornby direct the Green one ( shows my ignorance of codes etc.) straight away after seeing a youtube video of Sam'sTrains announce it.

    Now the wait.......

ps have one already, one was to be sacrificed for a ON30 pecket as running at Puffing Billy.

( need  2 as the loco is great as is so needed a proper one as well - wish I could afford a lot more )

  2. Hi Robert, found your thread. and have  browsed all 14 pages so far. Have been impressed with your work and all the loco projects.

O scale is interesting, I  do not limit myself to 4 scale gauges, even if HO Aussie is the main scale.  Within a few year I hope On30 will be the 2nd option for me.

And as per my avatar, if there was a 7mm 73 class I could build/ afford I might be hooked. John Reid is a fellow club member, i think his article has been  in 7th heaven.  And his 7mm  loco albury layout is inspired, for me.

But what you have done from scratch , modified, kit based etc is amazing - not a lot of people these days do the modelling.

  3. Yes the loco was reboxed and posted back to  Hattons. And it looks nice to this Aussie ! will report the eventual outcome when that occurs.

I returned the loco, got a refund, immediately ordered another, being a non-fussy Aussie no idea how different it is tot he original one I ordered.

This 'new' one works, moves, and makes noise. I am happy. Thankyou Oxford Rail and Hattons !

  4. That's a  classic return to retailer job, but I do see you are in Oz...

However on this evidence you are not alone.

Perhaps an email direct to Oxford requesting guidance?

  5. I got my Oxford Dean Goods here in Melbourne, Australia several weeks ago - to me it looks great ! But that is because I are not familiar in any way with it and take it as I see it.

But the loco shorts my DCC system  - it's a sound equipped version. It Is a DCC loco, it does make noise, but when not shorting, that is all it does. No loco movement at all.  I have NCE Powerpro 5 Amp system, and all locos on the layout still work. But this loco shorts on, off, on etc. If I select say the whistle it will whistle, short, whistle short etc whether I have the functin on or off until I remove the loco off the track.

I tried to reset the decoder with no effect.

I wonder from those who have the loco, be it DC or DCC are there anything on the loco that might sort it out ?

    Regards,

    David Head

  6. May I ask how much you paid? I got as far as the pay point and VAT had not been deducted and the postage was for the UK.This is quite different from Hatton's process. As I was unsure if this was  the final cost I did not proceed.

$155.32 AUD, so not sure of pounds etc.  that's inc postae to Australia.

  7. Asked Hattons re the loco, and were told there may be an anoucement 4thJan from Hornby.

As a Aussie it looks i have missed out, and cannot afford to ring every shop in the UK.  Seems it has been a popular model, and what a shock to everyone. Hope others can attest to future production......

I want  at least 1, any colour ;)

  8. Now I managed to go into Melbourne city Australia today, I dropped into what are almost the last 2 shops left. One had had the Peckett in the last week and the comment was "we could have sold a heap and their allocation had been cut". I then dropped into the other who told me that they had not received any. They were also not impressed that I had told them that some retailers had received some!

So I would suggest that every one may be disappointed that the allocations may be cut to spread the stock further! I have not checked the other 2 shops that are relatively close to see if they had any stock. So yes some made it to Australia but not in large volumes!

Agree, I too rang Trainworld, no sign. Rang Brancline, none, but they did. Awaiting a replt back to see the aussie price before I try overseas. did look at some of the Perth shops, sold out.

I'm being rather weird on my purchase, I want rgw mech for aOn30 version at Puffing Billy, here's a link to my project page: http://dth.railpage.org.au/pbr_emerald/projects/peckettlog.htm

If it is not suitable, well it won't go astray that's for sure !

  9. Ran the loco at the club tonight to show  a member who is building a 30x40ft  british layout. Ran well in both directions.

Now , to be fair, I WILL await the Hornby one,  But no intention of getting rid of this great model !

( Yes I may end up with two 488's )

  10. Hi all, I have read this  entire thread on and off this year, and are interested in  488 as it is at Bluebell.

Which  offering may be "close" to that of the bluebell  loco as preserved ?   This link may explain why I'm interested:

And I am thinking that I might buy both  Adam's from both manufacturers too.

Next question is the coach  in the following photo of a poster I have, just wondering if anyone can id it and offer a modle source
so I can sort of recreate this photo:

    adams_wall.jpg

Any help appriiciated.  I'm rather far from the UK so will not see it for a while/order for a while.

  11. Hi everyone.

Just read all 36 pages so far.  I have a interest in the Adams radial.

In 2012 I had the privlidge to come over from Australia for three weeks. 3rd last day I visited the Bluebell Railway.

In due course I had a look at the engine shed. AND WHAT A SURPRISE I HAD !!!! For there was 488, a 4-4-2T tank engine that I have
looked at for years and years - 30+ years at least. I have a big poster on my wall of this green loco. Not sure where it came from, I think Granny.
Well there it was for me to touch.  The loco is of need of $$$$ time and effort to restore it again, but it is there undercover and
    looking OK.

Now I find two manufacturers are doing the loco in OO I mainly model Australian HO scale but have several OO locos and do not mind adding to them. This Adams Radial fit the bil of childhood yearnings and that in itself influences me to get one, as preserved.  The poster dates 1975. Which model best represents that era? Oxford or Hornby? Will either represent the Adams as stored today? Is it the same? Do we know if the Hornby one  will have a NEM coupler socket ?

I ask of all you this as after reading all the posts so far, you all know a lot.

    My layout : http://dth.railpage.org.au/trainroom/

    My British layout plans: http://dth.railpage.org.au/woodburn/

More about my 2012 holiday, http://dth.railpage.org.au/me/wtrip2012/index.html  includes a photo of the poster.... some of you may be able to tell me what coach it is pulling ?
