Dark purple lake and white with a soupçon of ultramarine blue. Brown for the Cathcart circle. Now, about the blue… then again about the loco- have you a few hours to spare? Hey if it gets more people modelling Scottish locos it cannae be bad.
Bigger question for me is, are the coaches otyherwise close to accurate as models?

15mm wargames figures are 1/100, and unless an old range much more likely to be 18mm tall than 15mm.

Duplicatìon of all 3 feels, less than accidental.
But the point stands, can Hornby as the rtr alone grow ut?

Personally I think Hornby have shot themselves in the foot with the launch.
Why, firstly duplicating Heljan has taken a different maker out of the scale before it even gets properly started, secondly as noted elsewhere they seem to be launching aiming at the trainset market, but only selling direct hurts that strategy.
Will watch and see.

The Hornby stuff looks, odd. Doing 2 LNER engines but no matching carriages, and otyer than an 08, no small engines.

It is also excellent for cleaning paint off metal items, I use it to strip pewter wargames figures (friend is a printer, he does the same). Do not use on plastic though unless you want blobs....

How did you get the excellent effect when painting the capping stones please?
-
Also keep an eye on wargames manufacturers, the nominal size of 25mm figures should be just about spot on for S Gauge (28mm these days is fudged to mean 1/56th).

One last question as I bow in unworthness before you two.
Did either of you do thatched roofs? And if so what technique was used please?

Looked through the thread, the posted barn article isn't the one I am after sadly.
The one I am after had two sets of front doors. I remember how you did the walls, but can't remember the roof.

Sadly yes, always remembered that, but then there was always a touch of humour in your articles.

I remember the farm building, he forgot to put a gateway into the wall, and then found a use for the heavy roller to make one....

Good afternoon,
Very glad to have found this thread, Mr Downes is responsible for many of my own forays into model buildings, and for that I wish to thank you.
However may I ask, do you have any pics from an article you did for the Jan 1978 Railway Modeller, of a wooden barn?

Dang.
The one disadvantage of pre grouping stuff, is they all seem to have complicated colour and lining schemes!
