Finally! A YouTube channel will be amazing! It’s grear seeing photos of the layout but even better seeing it in action!
-
I know this is a very old topic now, but were these units ever fully painted? I'd love to see the final results, especially for the Electrostar and Capitalstar!
Cheers,
Matt

Amazing work! I'd love to try scratch building using cardboard. A couple of questions, sorry if they've already been covered!
-What cardboard do you use?
-How do you go about cutting the card
-How do you plan a building (sizing dimensions etc.)?
Sorry if they're a bit complex to answer, I'm just really interested in your work. Very admirable!
Cheers,
Matt

Amazing work, wish I had that level of skill! Shame nobody has rattled up an electrostar in 3D-printed form yet!
Keep up the great work,
Matt
-
I look forward to it

Has anymore progress been made on Loftus Road? There hasn't been an update for months!
Looking forward to seeing what's changed. Still has to be my favorite layout
-
Everything changes once you add a splash of colour to the model Looking amazing!

Hi folks - just to let you know for anyone following the Class 700 build, I've now started a new thread in the 3d printing/cad forum here: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/125715-siemens-class-700-emu-3d-printscratchbuild/?p=2843010
Some of the parts have now arrived from Shapeways so I've posted a few pics on that forum and will continue to post updates on the Class 700 project there. I'll be back to working on the layout itself in the next week or so, and will post more updates on that here hopefully,
Many thanks,
Tim
Wow Looks amazing! I guess it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to fit it with DCC sound from the 350 Desiro, right? They're virtually identical in sound.
Looking great, can't wait for more
Cheers,
Matt

Hi Matt,
Truth be told it has all ended up in a bit of a halfway house. A number of other projects have been completed with test prints ordered and the like but I am not doing particularly well at all of the follow up to these which is the painting, glueing, photographing and putting the details up! New job, house move and various other bits and bobs have meant I havent dedicated the time I wanted to to everything. If I get the chance this weekend I will put up some photos of my latest projects.
Priorities are most important Hope everything gets sorted and your new job/house is all working out.
Cheers,
Matt

Are these projects still ongoing? Was the S stock ever complete?
I'd love to find out what's new!
Cheers,
Matt

I wish we had more modern image southern stock as well, particularly the Electrostar family.
hope you'll stay tuned for more updates!
The Electrostar is something I've had my fingers crossed about for years now. Sadly, it's not looking likely, at least for the near future. If one ever was released, I'd 100% be buying one even though I have no layout!
I certainly will stay tuned. Looking forward to the progress
-
Thanks mate, it's early days yet and initially I will be building just the one set for Sevenoaks (if the manufacturing concept works). I will post updates on the progress though - if the various bits go together ok I might consider building sets to order but I'm a long way from there yet!
Well I'm really excited to see the progress. There's definitely a lack of modern image SR stock, and it's great seeing you design your own from scratch. I hope in the future that we see more projects like this, as technology advances!
Cheers,
Matt

Looking forward to seeing this develop!
Even though I don't have a layout, I'd definitely be up for buying on of these! This could make a nice little earner for you

Makes me want to burgle my bank account and start a layout of my own
Very, very good work, looking forward to more posts and photos
Cheers,
Matt

Very nice! I have a thing for modern image SR layouts you've really managed to capture that South/South East London atmosphere with Norwood Road.
Maybe James Makin could fashion you a Capitalstar or a couple of Electrostars?
Very good work,
Matt

I've said it before and I'll say it again: You're work is fantastic! I really envy the skills you have in scratch building, wish I could produce structures of the same quality. My buildings would end up looking like remains from WW2
-
Scratch-building buildings is not inherently difficult and certainly a lot easier than scratch-building locos and rolling stock (especially in N/2mm).
The forthcoming issue of the N Gauge Journal has a number of making buildings articles that should help provide some assistance and advice : http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/81640-ngs-journal/page-8
If you're not a member then it would be worthwhile joining : http://newweb.ngaugesociety.com/?page_id=30 Then you can take advantage of the help and support it offers (Help Line, Area Groups, Handbook provided, regular Journal, etc.,) and perhaps obtain a booklet that I produced that should help you get started with making buildings:

I'll have a cheeky look at it

I dream of having your scratch building skills! I've never even attempted a scratch build, but it's something I'd love to get into. i don't know where to start, what equipment or materials I need, how to go about planning etc. so I don't think it's something I'll master anytime soon.
Outstanding work,
Matt

look at the widened lines that could work as it had really cramped stations to the point where 8 car trains couldnt stop at some stations
This is just the sort of thing I was looking for, although I have to admit, despite travelling between St Pancras and London Bridge many times, I had no idea that they were known as the 'widened lines'. Thanks for this, it will really come in handy.

Some years ago one of the magazines had a plan for Sheffield station on a 4 x 2 board in OO. It modelled the east end of the station running mainly dmus and locos appearing to run round. So something similar based on London should be possible.
Sounds good, I'd like to have seen that! Now to find a station to model...

It is impressive, not just in terms of the details but the ingenuity in creating a fiddle yard http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/112891-lymebrook-yard/?p=2623711
Unbelievable that the whole thing is just two by four!
Cheers,
Keith
Just shows you don't necessarily need a huge loft or shed to build a quality layout
Cheers

Four by two is used for this excellent urban based layout

Ooh, I like it!

Hey all,
Anybody that has seen any of my previous topics will know that I'm a bit of a modern image London nut!
I don't have a layout, and I don't have much room for a layout. But, here is an idea that has been going round in my head lately.
Do you think it is possible in any way to create some form of modern image, urban layout set somewhere in London (N gauge obviously) in the space of no more than 4ft x 2ft?
Whether it's just a busy section of track or part of a station, could I create some form of busy urban scene in a boxfile? I'm thinking about loco storage and the idea of cassettes are definitely in mind.
What do you all think?
Cheers,
Matt

Thanks. Yes, they are from Stoney Lane Depot. Although I sold the layout over a year ago there are still plenty of pics around on the internet.
Also you may find this thread of interest which is my attempt at building more real London based structures for a future new layout: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/115057-scratch-built-card-and-styrene-structures-based-on-real-buildings/ You can see that some of the buildings are pretty big.

I'll check it out, looks very interesting!
Cheers,
Matt

So glad to see activity still happening on this layout! Until fairly recently I lived in Louth, which I'm sure is a name familiar to you given the region and era of this layout! I'm living in London these days, but this layout is an amazing insight into what could have been if I was born a decade (or 9) earlier! Also brings back fond memories of riding the sprinters between Skegness and Heckington to see the grandparents Top work, keep it up!
