Ooh dare anyone have a different view. Get real. I am just having my say. The moderators who make the decisions will decide.

I know someone who found out thier daughter had topped herself in a hospital 2 hours after the first farcebook post so in my mind it really isnt fair or humane to encourage uninformed internet chat about this kind of thing.

What gets topics locked is bad speculation, irrelevancies or arguments.

Yup but how many posts are actually informed? All i see are links to info that may be speculation, irrelevant speculation and as i am now arguing i think it should be closed. Honestly; every topic about a crash leads to pages of cr@p. Force a stop and encourage members to discuss the FACTS when they are known.

To be honest i think as soon as anyone starts a post about an accident it should be locked or removed. It will put a stop to armchair investigation and sharing uninformed speculation and accusation so rmweb doesnt lower itself to the same poor standards of the uk media.

When all the facts are presented and relatives and injured have had time to grieve then talk about it if you really cant help yourselves. That or re-educate and join a body of professional accident investigation and help make a difference.

For the love of god just close this. It is the same as all the other accident topics and pointless.

The pic on the wall is of Sir Jack Brabham in Denny Hulme's 1967 Repco Brabham BT24. I'm guessing the photo was taken during the V8 Supercars first outing on the old F1 Adelaide Street Circuit (1999). I do recall seeing some of the big name drivers of the time there, as I wandered the Historic Formula Cars pit.

Thank you for the info. I really liked the old Adelaide circuit. I was there in '92 and '93 for the GP and really enjoyed myself. It was very cheap general admin tickets and the street parties were great fun.

Have you been to Bathurst? I went in those two years after wanting to so much as a kid.

I reckon a little lathe should be purchased(cheap chinese bench thing) for making axles to fit small sealed bearings and I am thinking home brew wheels that are flanged front and back for stability.  I would definitely separate the driving wheels from the pick ups and tyre bands for grip. 

Like alot of things; resistance is a problem. You have mechanical, wind, heat and electrical in this case. The 'test mile' and lead up track needs to be as straight and flat as is possible. The track needs to have as little variance of voltage along its whole length and of the best material for conductivity. Same goes for anything involved on the electrical side of things regarding resistance and conductivity. Weight isnt a prob if you can have a run up so maybe maybe make a bespoke flat floor(low CofG) out of alloy to use as a heat sink for the motor(s) which may see little gain in performance over such short runs but should extend the life of the motor(s). The flat alloy floor is good for aero, longevity, and stability all in one go.

Aero is cheap to experiment with. Flat bottom the underneath as above, fair in the wheels and flush glaze or tape windows etc. Every surface jut needs to be smooth step/indent free and no sharp changes from one surface to another. Hatchbacks please leave the room!

As with alot of performance things(machine or human) there is alot to be had in marginal gains, once they are all added up, before lashing out on expensive shiny bits.

What fun! I was only thinking how one could do a wall of death with a model train the other day. Since then i have thought of building the worlds fastest ride on lawn mower and dreamt up an electric drag bike that will run in a future class called Top Volt. All this after reading about the Straightliners UK weekend at Elvington.

I would say there are very few prototypical sidings that can be squeezed into the micro format. If everyone had space in thier lives for 20' headshunts there would be more prototypical shunting puzzles. Sadly; there would then be no micro layouts of which half the challenge is making it look believable and maybe bigger than it is.

I do still prefer the layout in the first post. I re-thought my quarry idea and wondered if the simple wooden station could serve a nearby barracks/firing range. Somewhere Wiltshire-ess maybe. One siding could be a livestock dock in an early period and then used by the army for unloading the odd jeep/staff car/rations/ammo and there would be a need for oil and fuel. Keeping it sparse and sleepy like Western Diversion is the way to go i reckon.

I really do like the look of this layout. I can imagine a 1 coach wooden platform with a small shelter, at the end of a branch line, whrre a couple of trainsa day drop of the workers at the adjacent quarry. The 2 sidings are for the small amount of random goods traffic for the quarry and some nearby villages. All very sleepy and open with no real time or place in mind

If we like your layout then the magazines will be interested because they show us the things in life we like. I think this micro is top draw modelling and i look at it and think, yeah i have seen somewhere like that. Same applies to the other, less is more layout, on rmweb at the moment called "the sidings".

If i was suffering from an illness in Sheffield that the NHS cant support properly due to lack of funding i wouldn't give a stuff if i could get to manchester through a tunnel.

I find things like this tunnel idea disgusting. It is all about being able to put things on posters and websites and make idiots belive we are an advanced nation and prosperity is our middle name. It is all b#lls.

Berkshire is considered to be one of the most effluent counties yet maybe it is time to throw some light on the number of homeless in Newbury and Reading, the awful condition of, rentable property, the state of the roads, schools which have the highest pregancy rates in the country, and an ever increasing amount of in#$st in the county.

I dunno because i haven't got a degree but i rckon the money is best spent on healthcare and addressing social decay.
