Can anyone please assist I am looking to design and build an O Gauge layout in a extension to my house. Its in an Orangery measuring 15'6'' x 13' I already have the boards in place around the room based on 11mm ply tops and on 3' x 1" timber frame with shelving underneath for storage. The main control panel will be in the middle of the room with a control panel to cover all operational aspects including power, points and signalling in the future. At this stage I am purely looking for a reasonable design to incorporate the following key themes and aspects:-
- BR period 1950- 68 preferable MIdland Region
- An engine shed and locomotive servicing depot with T/T (I have a 70ft turntable to install)
- A shunting and marshalling yard and smallish good depot for all types of freight traffic
- The scope for including appropriate back scenes and detailing of the layout operation
- The ability to have a continuous track tun with say 5'6 radius curves to enable medium freight and passenger trains to operate on a potential single track section if it can be incorporated.
- I am also open to building upwards to an elevated section in the longer term.
I appreciate that this seem's a lot to include in a constrained space and there will in inevitably be compromises along the way but if anybody has any collateral to assist in this process all suggestions would be very welcome and gratefully received.
I am new to layout building so it's a voyage of adventure for myself and I reckon a a 5 year time frame for its construction but who knows with this kind of project?
Many Thanks

Please be advised that Signature Kits have been going for a long time albeit in a small scale we also have the Tyne Dock Hopper in our stable of products and other potential releases in the pipeline for the next 12 - 18 months so watch this space. As regards the ICI Hoppers shown below, we are indeed reviewing the pricing structure with a view to making it a little more competitive. However I will say that the product has been built from the original production engineering drawings from the Charles Roberts archives at the NRM plus site visits to review and investigate all the nuances of the wagons in the flesh and the finish product reflects this aspect. We also supply the decals for the ICU Hopper wagons across all time periods and we are currently look to add the diamond framed bogies to the offering so that we have the whole history of the variants for all the time period from construction to final withdrawal. QuoteOn the Tower Collection stand, although I gather a separate company to them was Signature, whom I think are a new kit manufacturer. Very interesting and help chap on the stand, who was more than happy for the two demo ICI hoppers to be photographered.
The info sheet on the table said "Produced with the latest technology" these can be supplied in kit form with wheels and transfers, or ready-to-run. Noprices, they were asking people to enquire as the pricing hadn't quite been settled yet, but did say that full rakes of eight wagons (either Kit or RTR) were bundle pricing.
I forgot to ask if he was happy for his email address and contact details to be put online, so if anyone wants them, PM me and I'll respond with the details.
Very nice wagons, quite heavy with a brass frame to the underframe and looked superb, very detailed. RTR could also be supplied weathered.

Please note that Signature Kits will be at O Scale North West this coming Saturday with the prototype ICI Hopper Wagon we can be found on the Tower Collections Stand please come and say hello ands examine the real thing.

It’s lovely to read your posts Ian I have a ruck of wagon kits that I need to build so your postings have given me much food for thought. I also love Georges layout postings also. I will miss this Friday at High Lane as I will be in Cornwall but I have much to do to meet your standards.
Kind regards

Signature Kits are pleased to announce a new kit to go with both steam and diesel traction that reflects the lime stone traffic from the Peak District Quarries to the ICI works at Northwich. The kit will be offered in both kit form and or ready to run. The kit can be detailed in both the steam era 1946 - 1968 and the diesel era post 1968 to 1992 so it offers the modeller of the modern era of BR plenty of scope. The kits will be complete with all wheels and transfer for the appropriate era chosen by the customer and we offer a weathering service if required as part of the ready to run service being offered.

It looks a lovely kit the 4F is one on my bucket list I have recently bought the MOK Standard 4 Kit via a third party (including Slaters wheels and a ABC and Maxon combo for the motor and gear box) but having looked through the box its appears to be lovely the etches and castings first rate. I will watch you progress with much interest and see how it goes so far it looks very good. The two kits I will procure in the next few months from MOK will be the 4F and the Standard 4 Tank.
kind regards

This is to say a big thank you for all those people who attended and supported the show at Leigh on Saturday, also to all the traders who attended, all in all it has been preceived as a very good day for all involved. The Show Committee are taking on board any potential areas for improvement and these will be reflected in the planning for the 2019 event.
Many Thanks

Will you please stop calling it a Trade Show.
To most folk outside of The Gauge O Guild (and they stopped using the term years ago) a trade show is one that is only open to the trade and is expressly not open to the public.
Let's be clear on this its both a trade and a model railway show in its truest sense. There would be no show without people like yourself who provide the critical trade support that people come to the show for. If you did a poll I think that the majority attend the show for the large elements of trade support and to review the layouts secondary. Yes, I agree with your sentiment that it could be misconstrued as being purely a trade show if it purely stated trade show, but does not it state Model Railway and Trade show on the adverts. I will speak to the committee around the wording of future adverts to remove any potential ambiguity.
Regards
Iain

Love the pictures of the loco it did spend quite a period of time at Longsight between 1948 - 59 and had a further brief stint there between June 1959 and September 1960. She moved around a fair bit after that until withdrawal in 1965 at Kingmoor. Sp a much travelled lady.
