Ok thanks for the detail. What is the plan for the blue 47 that has come up from the WSR, is it going to be fitted with some clever electronics so that it can run up to Whitby?

It's not actually arrived yet - there are issues with transportation logistics.

The Yorkshire Post article sums up what happened this morning, there's not much more to add.

It's obviously not appropriate to live-stream a platform full of people who have been shook up by the event, so we took the Grosmont camera down this morning.

It will remain offline for the next day or so - but hopefully back in time for the Gala this weekend.

According to Realtime Trains - Tornado will be leaving Crewe HC at around midnight if you want to watch it on Railcam UK.

  2. woodenhead is correct, we're shadow running at the moment which is where the services are run empty so volunteers can renew their competencies and get used to the timetable.

Also a lot of the engines had winter maintenance done during Jan/Feb and are being running in.

We had a land slip at Beck Hole which was only very recently re-opened for traffic so there hasn't been a great deal of movement North/South during lockdown.

That's why they were shuttling Grosmont<->Whitby in April - you could only get about 2 miles south of Grosmont before the track was closed.

There are now shadow services running the full line. 825 and Sybilla have been doing most of them.

There's also an internal shuttle running which is currently the 101 DMU.

  3. Just bear in mind a lot of this is press buzz to go with the political lobbying the HRA does so it’s not as gloomy as it sounds - completely understandable for them to be making noise about it, but it’s not news to anyone in the heritage railways.

There are various plans being suggested to distribute foreign coal. I’m not sure how much of it is public so I’ll bite my tongue here, but it’s not ‘the end of steam trains’ as some of the quotes in the article seems to suggest.

  4. Repton had just returned from Pickering after dropping the coaches off.

If The Optimist is running with 825 or the 9F it's being swapped with Sybillia at Grosmont for the Whitby section.

I think its just 825 and 926 this week on The Optimist - the 9F was in the running shed today having a bit of TLC.

  5. I just tried to print from Adobe Reader and guess what!  I can't change the scale to 175%.  Adobe strikes again.  So I took a screen grab at 175% and printed that at 100% using Mac's Preview.  I now need to check that the scaling is right.  Nothing is ever as easy as it should be.

You have to set the page scaling type to tiled, then the % box appears

Not sure if you've seen but Scalescenes also maintain a reference list for enlargement/reduction values for non-supported scales at

    Hope this helps

  6. I hope the 4mm building doesn't go to waste - I remember how impressed I was with the quality when you first built it, you got a really great result out of a ready-to-plonk item

Your attention to detail, as always, is amazing
