  2. Very interesting, was unaware of a Howard conversion before as I don't think it's covered in Ian K Hutchinson's book. There are a couple of preserved Howards, I've only seen the ploughing engine but it is as Pete & Sir Douglas surmise. A real rarity and a lovely thing to see, cheers
  3. Still hopeful of finding my 12099 body for you as I continue to go through our roof space...
  4. Crane tank is Glenfield, Barclay from 1902. Has variously been at Didcot, Market Overton, Steamtown, Dealers, then Oswestry Antiques Centre, Statfold, Chasewater and now Ribble Steam Railway where it is currently for sale. If I had daft money and time, I'd have it! The Bass brewery Baguley has also been at Fawley Hill, Market Overton, Steamtown, Dealers and then on to Chasewater. Two of the most individual and interesting industrials in preservation in my humble opinion.
  5. That was "Dealers Ltd" in Shropshire, all sold in a job lot to the Somerset & Dorset Loco Company but then separated out, some preserved, some went to industry, others scrapped. The Peckett is 1722 "Rocket" now at Telford Steam Railway. We had Brush/Bagnall 3097 (?) at Snibston for a time. The sale brochure which allowed viewing was something crazy like £50, which registered you to bid for the locos. I may have a photocopy somewhere, but not seen it for years. Fascinating. I think there were something like 54 locos there in total - amazing.
  6. Seen one run today. It's beautiful, smooth and quiet, wish I could afford one.
  7. That's Barry. The sheds in the background give it away. Locos moved around Barry a lot in the 1960s and these have probably not long arrived before being placed into the yard itself. There are maps to explain this but I don't have any to hand at present.
  8. Good result, well done, something I will need to face ere long
  9. Plenty of narrow gauge welded boilers
  10. I started my preservation volunteering life in 1988 on 12099, needle gunning the orange off her. One of those is a definite must! I even researched her life and provided the material for the SVR stock book entry on it. Nice one.
  11. I think it was Model Magic with Bob Symes. The other possibility was a Lineside Look at Model Railways but I'm not so sure.
  12. There's a chap in Durham Market who has railways amongst his diecast and vintage collectables. Not sure which days he's there.
  13. I bought two 16 tonners from Chesterton Fen sidings in 2000 for Snibston. Wonder if they are still there?
  14. Not Green Arrow, I walked past it 5 minutes ago and the wheels are still attached.
  15. 339 isn't Moors Valley, I think it's Ferry Meadows Country park in 10 1/4" gauge, that Hunslet is too big to be MVR which is 7 1/4"
  16. Green tender engine is a conversion of an Airfix Prairie and City of Truro into a GWR 43xx 2-6-0 - there were a number of such projects on the Model Railway press in the 60s, think it was a chap called Mike Bryant wrote the articles. Nice snapshot of 60s modelling. I feel the need to dig out some of my Kitmasters again...
  17. I really like the green Peckett on the right of the first pic, a very imaginative use of the kit loco.
  18. Was at the launch today. Simply stunning. A wonderful experience. Some running in to do, but I believe it will be an Embsay regular next year.
  19. It is indeed true to say that No. 8 was in worse condition than No. 10. No. 10 had always been kept under cover, but was still in 47 year old paint. No. 8 had been displayed outside for 20 years but had been painted in shiny gloss paint, so everyone thought it was in better nick. Not so. We cannot accuse CRM of not looking after No.10 before 2012, they did what they could with the resources they had. There was no real rust on that engine. Steve Cheasley told me that in 1967, they wanted to LNER blue it with valances etc, asked BR what it would cost and got a prohibitive quote. They told BR what they had (about £1500 at that time) and BR said that would give them ONE coat of BR Green - which is what it got - and that lasted until 2012, albeit somewhat worn as the paint aged.
  20. 12 year old daughter was being "What's App'"d by a school friend asking if she was watching - as they both were. Certainly got their interest. Job Done I'd say

  22. No longer of interest? That's sad to hear David, I always find a trip on the FR of great interest, and that's after 40 years. Glad to hear you still support the line though, I did the same at Fairbourne last week.
