  1. According to the latest newsletter, all versions are now sold out direct from KR. Limited numbers still available to order from other stockists.

Will arrive in the warehouse after the Leader has been delivered

I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but just as a heads up, I have been running my Mk2a/b rake of 9 coaches ( Accurascale 5 x b +  Bachmann 4 x a)  over the last few days with the supplied magnetic couplings. They are lovely couplings but the magnets have become detached from the coupling several times from different couplings within the set of 5 Mk2b coaches. It has been a simple fix to glue the magnets back in with superglue but I feel that the original glue used may not quite be up to the job in hand. Other than that, these coaches are just brilliant in all respects.

Not had any become detached ‘in service’, but one was detached on opening the packet. As you say, just a drop of superglue and it’s all sorted. Just one to look out for.

  3. Replaced the tension lock couplers with the supplied magnetic ones. Running is now much smoother as the slight hunting from my class 50 doesn't now propagate down the train. Must say the close coupling of the magnetic couplers is absolutely superb. I was doubting when I fitted them how it would be able to negotiate 2nd radius curves (used in sidings on my layout), but it does so with ease.

As it's been mentioned a couple of times, here's a side-by-side with the old Hornby Mk.2a. Originally didn't order any as i didn't think I could justify a complete rake replacement and buying just a couple and mixing them in with the Hornby's would just look wrong. On seeing the photos as they all arrived though, I realised I could justify a complete rake replacement!

  4. Only 'problem*' I have found with these coaches is that they are too free running for my Hornby 50. I've never noticed any jerking motion from it, but with these very free running coaches attached, they do tend to hunt about at slower speeds and snatching at the tension lock couplings. (Especially the last coach, all the passengers would be violently ill if it were real life!)

Will switch to the supplied magnetic couplings and that should make a difference.

*Obviously not Accurascale's fault at all

  5. Another appreciation post for Model Railways Direct. Ordered five 2B's yesterday at 2pm and arrived on the doorstep this morning. That also includes them having to phone me at 4:30pm to re-authourise my payment as my initial payment decided it would decline (after going through successfully).

Fantastic service. Need a 2C BFK now, so will keep an eye out when they start arriving.

  6. Just quickly lashed up by VEP to the Bachmann 4-TC to see if it could handle it. The answer is yes, but it did struggle a tad and an incline would certainly be a no no! Far better than the original though and can handle it's own coaches with ease (which of course, is all it's meant to do)

As an aside, the coupling bar supplied with the VEP to enable two to be connected together has proved to be a very useful addition to my 4TC + 33!

  7. Mine arrived today from KMRC and ran it in this afternoon. Runs well, no issues anywhere on my layout which is always nice. Colour reproduction is fine as far as I can tell, but will weather it up a bit when it gets warmer. Definitely looks the part far better than the previous release.

The only gripe, which unfortunately is a hangover from the previous model, is the indicator blinds. They are still stickers. The leading end (route number) is fine, however the trailing edge with double blanks + red LED leaves a bit to be desired. May attempt to fashion a double red at some point.

Got a big collection of images of these locos saved for reference. A couple I really like are these two: one describing the Newhaven Boat and the other showing obvious pride in the job.

Some photos of my Booster with it's rake, strongly inspired by the article previously posted above

  9. My BR Green version has arrived and is running around nicely. Had one minor issue out of the box, it sounded like a Vietnamese fishing boat! Evidently something catching on the gearing.  Took it apart and ran it without the body and was fine, as it was with the body being held with the buffers only. Turns out that one of the screws is rubbing on something. Taken the offending screw out and now is running fine. Not an issue for me having the screw missing (pretty sure a few of my locos have lost screws over the years!), just a heads up in case anyone else has an issue.

An absolutely lovely model, pictures to follow
