  1. Lovely model, loco and the diorama.

I Just found this thread, in connection with a 0 gauge 141 i have build in cardboard. It is an Alphagraphix Kit, in colour printed card; which i strengthened with art card and applied varnish. Important to varnish surfaces both sides to stop warping.

The loco is subject to further work; albeit ive got it running now, using a Lima o gauge class 33 chassis. A small o gauge Irish layout beckons.

  2. Brilliant Al, only just discovered this; clearly you showing me photos of your great ScR work at last months MIOG show has had an effect; Ive purchased a rail blue 26 from Rails and just converting a Lima 33 to a 27 between doing further works on Wheal Demelza. Some sort of McStan layout is looming.

Thanks for sharing those. I have to say, it looks pretty much the same now as it did when I first visited in 1999...

Funny you say that; I remarked to family and friends it felt like a timewarp - which was lovely -

  4. A few shots from the photos I took in Bosnia last month - I’ll advise when some of my work appears in print on my Bosnian trip I did with D6332.

Perhaps seeing that others are doing something Bosnian, I may end up digging out my nearly-finished kitbash of a Fleischmann ÖBB 1043 into a ŽRS 441-700... just needs painting and decals. Its been sitting in this state for... about 15 years now. It was the decals that kept me from finishing, since I had no way back then to get them made. Still don't know how to draw them up, but there are more such services available now than back then.

Tom at Endon Valley can generally work up decals for you if your supply photos and the prototype- so he can scale transfers. My friends have used Endon Valley and been delighted with the transfers www.ecvd.big cartel.com

The JŽ /ZFBH 661 class is the EMD model G16. Below is the diagram from this model's original specification brochure (from the collection of the Israel Railway Museum). Note that the diagram has the mid-1950s cab design, as used on the single G16 demonstrator, whereas all other G16 locomotives had the angular cab roof, as on the 661. Also note that the diagram includes only a partial (head-on) representation of the dynamic brake grids and fan, as used on the 661.
    G16.jpg.af353daaad502a7e074bda748061d032.jpg

If planning to model this type of locomotive, note that this has been done before:

    https://raymondwclam.blogspot.com/2008/06/kitbashing-emd-g16-model-in-ho-scale.html

The easiest source for the bogies in H0 is the Roco model of the Renfe 319, e.g.

Thanks so much for this plan. I am (madly) contemplating building one in Gauge 1, 1/32 scale. For now though I attached shots of the Laser cut parts I produced yesterday for the 1/32 JZ /ZFBH 6 wheel shunter. Assembly starts later this week. I put a particular effort into getting cab windows right. Prototype phot too; I took a few weeks ago.

  7. Excellent - Im glad Im not alone in my Bosnian modelling endeavour. Yesterday I printed (on a sculpfun laser cutter) all the parts for my Gauge 1 1/32 scale Bosnian diesel shunter. Ill post pics later. That will get built before the Kriekslok kit I purchased 2 weeks ago. Im just starting to draw up some ZfBH wagons. On the FarRail trip we travelled in a box van, which I named John, so that is crying out to be built.

Like Road-Rails i too will build the cute Dobosnica container station. Again Ill draw up a container for printing / cutting on the laser printer. My layout will have to be very much abridged as its Gauge 1.

Are the 5 Kriegsloks in Bosnia not still running every day?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bH96yjd6BKU

Yes! I have just come back from there. 3 were in steam for most of last week, 2 are needed each day at Sikulje mine and its sister at Dubrave. A 4th was at Bukinje works for a washout and a 5th had just entered the works. My photos on my X page (Twitter in old speak) gives a flavour - @pjsrail Plus a narrow gauge tank loco was shunting coal wagons at Oskava Washery near Banovici on Tuesday and Friday last week. The worlds last working USA tank was also in steam shunting coal wagons last Friday - I was lucky enough to cab ride.

There is a bit of dual gauge round the engine shed.

Indeed there is - the Standard Gauge Skoda - an 0-6-0 tank loco; is parked there awaiting axle box repairs - it has a twisted frame. Amusingly the standard gauge rail just ends, without a wheel stop - so an unsuspecting standard gauge driver could run out of rails!

  10. I was on the same trip as D6332 and have wanted to do something in model form post Bosnian trip. I have just ordered the Trumpeter Gauge 1 Kriekslok loco, from The Model Centre, a steal at 97 pounds. I'm still tempted by the Minerva o gauge USA tank. A friend has just furnished me with plans for a GM 'Kennedy' and coupled with acquiring a laser cutter am thinking could I scratch bui!d one. I will modify the Kriekslok to represent prototype 33-248 which we saw haul coal traffic and a number of us cab rode, as part of the group with FarRail Tours.

I struggle with finding things on Shapeways, but have no joy finding an Bosnian narrow gauge, or the iconic class 83 in any sca!e.

Ill post on here some prototype photos which may help modellers. As D6332 indicates its a fascinating rail system in a really interesting country and deserves modelling.

Actually I come unstuck on my shorty programme recently, reuniting the top and bottom of a diesel which had accidentally shed a few feet, I found the b—- motor had stopped going. Sorry, Paul, I should have made more of an effort, particularly since I’m agog about the new project. And I missed the cooked breakfast, and the chance to pick up more old Pola wagons.

That Vicinal diorama looks nice, you could have a tram on a bridge instead of a bus:

Absolutely amazing shot Bob; was just studying the detail. I’ll get a new thread up and running for Portuguese project. Meanwhile Nouvion has invites for shows next year - 2019 was supposed to be its last year. I’ll keep tweaking it & keep it going. What I have to try and replicate (from Nouvion to Vale Do Campo) is the sense of ‘place’ without any trains on the layout. People say I managed that with Nouvion.

Either that or he was maliciously cutting innocent & helpless 50ft cars in half just for fun.... 🙄🙄🤣🤣🤣🤣

Indeed! Lovely looking vehicle BTW, lovely weathering, plus Bob’s tag.

  13. Winchester Continental show yesterday was very good - the superb Bad Obering was there. Nouvion behaved itself and it was lovely to meet old and new faces. Northroader you were missed!

The improved fiddle yard (with a behind the scenes crossover) helped operational flexibility and interest. I’ll iron a few things out and do some more detailing this week.

Few photos below of it at the Winchester show. Plus a shot of Alan Marlow (show organiser) diorama of a Vicinal petrol tram - don’t see Belgium based o gauge models often - although Alan says it’s nearer to 1/50 scale. 32mm or ?????

32mm - for the reasons of my sanity. I have a Atlas Alco which will become a CPclass 1500 and a Bachmann Brassworks shunter will be reworked into a CP Drewry shunter. Plus I have sketched up a General Arrangement of a CP1400 loco; trying to overcome the fact 32mm will represent 5ft6ins. Below is a picture at Regua 3 weeks ago, as I headed up to Pochino in loco and coaches.

  15. Keep a keen eye on this thread as I have decided to have a go at doing a Portuguese layout in O gauge. Brave I know, foolish yes. Have an Alco courtesy of great modelling pal Chris Prior. Just working quietly on a scratch built o gauge station building. Will start a thread once I’ve got this weekend out the way - Nouvion going to the Winchester o gauge Continental show.

  16. Been doing some work on Nouvion ready for this coming Saturday when the o gauge Continental show (European and American) occurs in Winchester. i sold the CFD20 a year ago - to a French rail  fan, so he plans to keep in CFD colours.

It’s a lovely show and a pleasure to support again. Here’s the show details

  17. Was at Par last Wednesday lunchtime (31-8-22) and captured the lunchtime Goonbarrow to Fowey clay train - 38 CDA wagons and running 30 early at Par. Photographed the signals and box too with resignalling set to happen soon.

  18. Nouvion being dusted off ready for the 22 October 2022 show in Winchester - the UKs only dedicated O gauge Continental show. http://www.winchesterogaugemeet.co.uk

Ive parked my Croatian o gauge layout after its last show at Larkrail on 23 July. It’s hopefully back out again next spring.

I’m building a new fiddle yard and scenic section for Nouvion. So if you want a Continental o gauge fix (or just a Continental model fix) pop 22-10-22 in the diary.

couple of shots from a few years ago. I’ll post progress on updating the layout. Paul

    Hi Paul,

Have you got an overall view or a track plan at all?

No problem. I’ll get one sketched up and post either tonight or more likely first thing. EDIT - Just found this photo which shows the layout in full for you Al. Many thanks Paul

  20. There we go second show for the layout and overall things worked! Larkrail organisers did a fabulous job with a great show and I appreciated being invited.

To do list isn’t too long on the layout with learning points. Thank you for peoples comments about the layout and the Scratchbuilt GM loco - it will be worth the wait when I’ve finished it!

Public thanks to my chum Myles Munsey for help operating Ozjusko - watch out for his HO Romanian layout in Sept issue of Continental Modeller.

    cheers Paul
