It's great to see Ron's excellent modelling set in its final location and setting. It's absolutely stunning!
I agree. It's super workmanship from the master. I can't wait to get the balance of his work on the model.

Nice stuff...I'm also working on a few Sri Lankan HO scale models.
Thanks and noted.

3 trains at Demodera. Unusual for a quiet hill station but still workable due to the long double tracks at the station. The Sri Lankan upcountry service is a single line operation with multiple tracks only at stations. Demodera actually has 3 tracks but due to space constraints the model has only 2 tracks. Below the station is Tunnel No 42. the green bushes on the mountain is a tea plantation which gives you Pure Ceylon Tea .

I am sharing new images of my HO scale model located in a small island called Kirala Island in Sri Lanka. Kirala Island is a few kms south of the capital Colombo.
This image is of the Demodera Railway loop. The train on the lower track has just moved out of the station and taken the loop, approaching a tunnel which is right below the Demodera station. The train above is moving out of the platform on its way to Ella.
Demodera is a popular town at 900m above sea level about 200kms away from Colombo.

The layout looks stunning, I might have too see if the pennies will run to a holiday.
As for figures, it might be worth investigating 3d printing, as done by Modelu, but somewhere in Sr Lanka.
Thanks for that. I am looking out for a 3D printing guy in Sri Lanka. There should be for sure.

I will be visiting Sri-Lanka in March 2019 - will it be available to visit - even as a 'layout in construction'?
welcome and I wud love to see you. My no is 0094 716805900. Contactable always.

Looks good, but a bit empty. My impression of Asian railways is the vast amount of people using it, either to travel or
makescrape a living. However, finding Asian figures in large quantities in the correct scale isn't gonna be easy.Still more to go with filling up. People vehicles foliage trees and much more not in da layout yet.

Hi All,
Thought of adding some images of the progress being made on this project in Sri Lanka. It's coming along quite well. The project is located at Kirala Island, a small island a short distance away from Colombo, on the Bolgoda Lake. Access to the island is by boat. The island also has a restaurant open daily from 10 am to midnight.
I am hoping to open the model for the public in about another 2 weeks. It's behind schedule but costs and manpower has been an issue.

Is there any forum to discuss SriLankan Railways? I'm planning on making a small diorama based on "Randles Hill" near Kandy. And some images of the area would be nice.
I'd also like to know if locos and DMUs like the M8, M10, S10, S11 and S12 are a common sight at Randles Hill as these are the locos and DMUs I have access to technical data to replicate in HO scale.
I would be interested in getting the S12 DMU done. Any idea of the price?

Thanks for posting Ron. Shall keep you updated of the progress once the landscaping takes place.

Thanks for rotating the images.
Yes this is an extremely expensive subject and that's one of the reasons why it has not developed that much over here, but Sri Lanka has a great history with the railways, originally built by the British and you may probably notice from the image of the Demodera station that it's an old English style. That's how a majority of the stations in Sri Lanka are.Ideal for a model layout.

Hi to all,
I thought of sharing some images of my layout, now in its first stage, covering a hill station called Demodera. It's 900m above sea level and I am sure some of you who have been to Sri Lanka and taken a train ride up country, would have surely gone there.
The structures are thanks to the model engineering skills of our good old friend in this forum, Ron Heggs.
I will share more images as we go along.
If any of you are keen to follow up on what we do pls check our FB page ChrissLeisure@modeltrainvillage
It's an interesting page with a fast growing fan base all over the world.
Would be nice to have modellers joining the page.
Cheers
Christo

Well hitherto most of the models that have come out lacked detail. I am not taking away anything from those who have done layouts, because I am sure everyone of them have had to work hard to get a layout completed, but for me realism and detail are pretty much important.Ron has shown the way with his work.

Scratch built HO models for model train project in Sri Lanka

Hi, The project is now running. It was started off at a small island south of Colombo, Sri Lanka's capital city. However we have run into some bad weather situations for several months and the visitor turnout has dropped drastically. I am now looking at shifting the model to the capital.
