At the presentation they discussed they had built their own encoding protocol that transmits over 2.4GHz. It is not Bluetooth, the physical handset connects to the base station using this propietary protocol. (although the phone apps may connect to the bae station by Bluetooth, I wasn't clear on that). They also showed that if you update the speed of a loco on one endpoint (either handset, app or PC) that is reflected on all the other devices almost instantly. They pointed out that all consumer tech operates in the 2.4GHz band but you can use multiple channels. There was another demo going on at the Bachmann stand but no interference as they were on different channels.

This system has a programming system (use natural English commands, not computer code) that allows you to do exactly that. At least it would seem so. It's based on time interval right now, but there was a hint that some form of locomotive detection is also coming.

Attended a presentation at the Bachmann stand and at the end I was ready to pay there and then. FINALLY a user friendly DCC system. (NCE power cabs are rubbish from a usability point of view, the JMRI phone app is poor). The part of the demo that sealed it for me was seeing the abiltiy to swipe the throttle on the phone app to get to other throttles, then rotating the phone to landscape mode brings up the layout plan. This system seems to combine the best of both physical controllers/PC based and app based. Well done Bachmann!

Key Publishing Magazines removed from Readly app

Yes my library does that too. Last time I looked it was using a really poor app, but they have switched to Press Reader which seems the equal of Readly( including a text view of every article in every magazine). Also no Key Publishing titles, but I agree, I will likely be dropping Readly as this is free (well part of library service we pay for at least). Modern Railways confirmed on twitter that all the key publishing titles have been removed from Readly. -
It seems all the Key Publishing titles (Modern Railways, Hornby Magazine, MLI Plus) have been removed from the Readly app? This includes all the back issues. I understand this was the deal with Readly - you didn't own the magazines - which is why it's only £8 a month or so to read everything. Seems the only option is the Key Publishing direct subscriptions which use the Pocket Mags app. You do retain the back issues but the app is not as good at e.g. providing screen optimized versions of the individual articles as Readly. Oh well it was nice while it lasted.

First time seeing the layout at Fareham. Wow what an amazing exhibition layout! Firstly an excellent looking layout with lots passenger and goods operation. And I have not seen a better operational layout...normally fully timetabled layouts don't have enough going on (IMO). But this was great...lots happening all the time. And I really enjoyed how all the moves were on the back of the flip charts so I knew what to look for. I stood and watched the layout for over an hour which is unheard of for me. Super stuff!

So according to the Beyond the Buffers podcast it is the new tooling of the HST. Around 48:40 it is mentioned by Carl, almost as an aside following a longer discussion of the changes that have been made to the tooling. It is also the sliding door version of the Mk3 which Simon Kohler mentions earlier in the same podcast as he imagined a continuation of the LNER beyond nationalisation.

So is it the retooled HST & MK3s or the Lima tooling? Edit: 8Pin DCC socket so I assume the old tooling. Quite the price then!
