  1. Hi Rob,

The new designs are looking great. I too have a fondness for the LYR fish van and have whitemetal and etched brass kits for them. IIntend to do one of them in LMS white livery.  You will be putting Slaters out of business with these MR designs. Any plans to do longer wheelbase MR opens and coal wagons?  Have you made any more progress with the website plans to sell these .stls? Would you consider just putting them up on cults3d where that feature already exists. Unlike Shapeways you just download the file and print it yourself rather than paying for a print. I have downloaded quite a few military designs from there without any problems. It’s very easy to use. You can put up designs for free or charge for them. Might be worth considering?

Look forward to seeing more designs.

    All the best,

    Stephen

Hey Stephen hows it going dude?

Thanks for the kind words chap as always, Hope you are doing well? Have you been doing much printing/modelling lately? I just been reading your reply to the thread on 3d printing resources, some good stuff, im still bloody undecided what to do with all these models mounting up, to be honest I just like building stuff, and a crap business man 😆

I do have plans for more MR and L&Y stuff, along with having a crack at some LNWR, NER, CR, NB, NS, and the list goes on, I have so many books now its crazy!

  2. Hi Woko,

I have been following your 3D thread for a while with the intention of making some .stl files of my own. Have only managed an end vent for LMS banana vans so far and hope to post it shortly. It printed OK on my Ender 3 S1 but is pushing the limits of that printer.  I will probably get a resin one at some point down the line to get finer detail but right now I have nowhere outside that I would be happy keeping it in. My filament printer is much more conducive to internal use but it’s in my dad’s at the meantime. I’ve managed to get some decent prints from it of pregrouping stuff supplied by Sithlord of this parish but will add Archer rivet transfers where those have failed to print clearly.

Your French church looks amazing. I am assuming it will be the backdrop for an 82nd airborne diorama? There are quite a few ruined buildings available on Cults3d if you were looking for extras but why detract from that magnificent structure. I have download a few but not yet printed the buildings so am not sure how they would turn out. Have you any plans  to put that .stl up for sale? I think it would still look very sharp blown up to 1/35 which is my scale of choice.

Your wagons, especially the NER horse boxes look superb. They will be on my to do list at some point for my Scottish Borders layout seeing as how the D&S kits are hard to get. Please keep up the good work, it is genuinely inspiring to see your efforts in any scale.

    Regards,

    Stephen

That sounds fantastic Stephen, i kind of got into modelling and printing pre-grouping stock for much of the same reason. My dad has a lot of pregrouping locos now and there is very little out there to run behind some of them! And then I joined a local club and got hooked on modelling 7mm stock, I find it a lot more satisfying, as you can really push the details.

I intend to model up some LNWR and Caley stock along with some Highland railways and potentially NBR and NER if I can get some drawings for 4 or 6 wheel coaching stock! I plan to start printing the LBSCR coaches next, but whilst it gets cold over the winter I normally find myself modelling stock to print in the spring when the printer doesn't play up so much in the cold weather!

I am looking into creating my own website and potentially going to sell my STL's so folks can download and print, I doubt there much demand on the railway stuff, as pregrouping is pretty specialised but my buildings I have quite a few now and they may fair better if they are sold fairly cheaply. It is just an idea currently, but as more folks get into 3d printing their own stuff it seems like a possibility.

I just like making stuff, it is hugely satisfying i find.

Anyway Cheers Stephen as I said if you need any pointers or tips just message me dude

Thanks Stephen for the kind words, and yes you are correct I will be knocking up some 28mm 82nd Airborne to go with the church, never really figured how the church would look at 1/35, I suspect you would need a larger printer or break it up into a lot smaller parts to print possibly!

I have just finished Marmion Farm house, so have the barn to do and then I need to start seriously printing this stuff off if I am going to get this board done :)

But once again its very kind of you to send such a message of encouragement, if you ever need any help then please don't hesitate to give me a nudge dude happy to help chap :)

      Cheers

      Rob
