One thing for sure with what Accurascale, Cavalex, Dapol, Bachmann and perhaps Revolution are bringing to the market is that with each passing day Hornby's D&E collection fades further into the distance and obscurity.

I think this new-tooled onslaught is too great for them to overcome, I see no energy from Hornby when to comes to D&E in OO.

death by a thousand cuts, no company can release the volume of new models required to keep in the D&E game, certainly stuff already in the range. Hornby's D&E stuff is good, it has a place just not at the price they want to charge, maybe they should end up in railroad plus at the £120 mark, i'd snap up some of their stuff at that price.

Hornby has just too many plates to spin, some are going to drop to the floor and as we have seen others will make a new plate and spin that. AS now has a numerous plates spinning, lets see if they all stay spinning.

I have no skin in this game at all, but according to Fran, there was a breakdown of secrecy..:

...which would indicate that any "blame" (if that's what people are apportioning) for duplication, isn't entirely fairly to be lain at Accurascale's door.  at the very least, the other party knew about the AS project.

For clarity I have no opinion on the duplication issue.

    Scott.

100%,  no blame should be directed at either Company, free and fair competition is the basis of western capitalism, we can though share our thoughts on duplication, for such a small market it is unfortunate.

  3. Real shame it’s a model already in the making by another newer manufacturer,

detail wise looks nothing between them, the price though makes a huge difference,  for me the Hornby version will do, with the hm7000 chips does all it needs to do.

id love to be a fly on the wall when AS have their strategic planning meetings when it comes to product roadmaps and margins on said product. To be cheaper than anyone else repeatedly on locomotives they must be super efficient with really low operating costs or playing the long came, pick off all the low hanging fruit giving them 10 years of releases, price low to penetrate the market and under cut, become the go to supplier for your large number prototype locomotives, leaving the obscure , high risk, low number prototypes to others.

perfect business sense. Must have patient backers to see it through.

  4. this goes to show, if you have issues you must contact the manufacturing even if you attempt to fix it your self (regardless of who they are). Unless that's done they won't know the scale of the issue, common threads to the issues etc.

My first release 5 car set is sat in a draw, the pickups are busted on a few coaches and they are pain to fix.

  5. surely not a 67, the Hornby version is really good, lots of liveries out there. The 08's out there are also really good, only missing lights to be honest. HST, cash cow forever more so must be high on the list, although Hornby's revised version is very good it's expensive unless bought on discount, i certainly would not chop mine in for the same livery, although if price is below Hornby's and AS did a livery i was interested in then money talks as they say.

Can't see it been a 47, never in a million years, although Bachmann's is expensive, its a bloody brilliant model. not sure what AS could do to better it really, any newer bells and whistles are features for features sake.

I wouldn't say that for the outside motion steam locos, the motion is quite delicate and they need to be handled with care. My club have already had to sort out tangled motion on one loco.

Another, despite Hornby claims won't go round radius 2 curves as the pony wheels foul the front steps! That had us puzzled for quite some while before we found the issue.

that was a fault with the first batch of a3/a4's i think. My a3 does not do it, sure i've seen posts about it on here

They really messed up the bufferbeam area there, the steps have a weird curved section between the sides and the platform that is total fiction. They've improved the look of the front a little but those wipers look awful also. The whole loco looks like it rides too high as the frames have been moved upwards? I get it's their first attempt, but they havnt learnt from their 00 gauge model sadly by the looks of it

Mine arrived yesterday and I have to say it looks great, really nice detail and I personally think it looks like a 50. each to their own, sure the AS will be perfect in every way and satisfy the need for perfection 👍.

i do have a AS 50 on order at my local so will be good to compare

I'm starting to wire it but other things keep getting in the way! The boards ate Grainge and Hodder and very light, so light in fact that I went out and bought some 6mm Beech Ply for another layout!

cheers for the info, had a look and the prices seem really reasonable, a couple of 900x400, might do the job

  9. My 50 arrived today and whilst at my local, a Hornby delivery arrived, in said box was a set of m2 coaches so it would have been rude not to pick some up. Say what you will of the scale but the models are stunning. The 50 includes etched plates and a whole host of pipe work.

  10. green 50 with txs is sold out, others are still available. green 50 purchased, double points as well, used £33 of points towards it, happy days. Can't wait for it, looked great at the various shows.

now to decide on what mk2's to go for at some point in the future.

Yes, there was a heated debate about it and the fact that AS DCC is bespoke and not fully compatible with other chips. Got a bit tasty over 'industry standards' like NRMA etc. The comment below was towards the end of the debate but makes a valid point IMHO (And on reflection as I was initally I was supportive of AS stretching the chips, but realised it is taking an Apple like approach to force people to stay in their 'ecosystem' by preventing full operation using laternative decoders etc)

it did indeed get tasty and to be honest i 100% I don't like the AS approach .The fact the chips are only sold on their website as well does not help, that topic has been done to death now but the points are still valid.

Back to the poster about this topic, if you want lights, the AS chip is the only away (as been mentioned other 21 pin 6 function decoders with powered outputs still don't work), if you want minimal lighting but full sound with flexibility for half the cost, its a hm7000, take your pick.

For anyone thinking about installing a Hornby HM7000 chip, it appears that the headlights don't work. Has anybody managed this yet?

The Hattons model had more internal switches that allowed you to have either of the headlights on but the Accurascale one doesn't seem to have this feature.

I'm sure it'd be easy enough to run the headlights off the marker lights but you wouldn't have independent control of them. I think the Accurascale 37's also have this headlight issue with HM7000 chips and possibly others too.

i'm sure in the 37 thread it was mentioned that to get full functionality such as lighting you have to use the ESU chips that are sold on the AS web site. i was disappointed to read this as i use the hm7000 in my AS 37, the sounds are great but lighting is a pain. Saying that at 50% of the cost of an ESU chip and the ability to move it to another loco and change the sound profile its a compromise i accept. Appreciate others won't for obvious reasons.

  13. i fitted a dcc concepts one over the weekend, works really well. Does anyone know what type of connector the hm7000 uses for the stay alive, i'd rather solder a stay live onto a connect than directly onto the decoder.

The Blue and Grey Mk 3s have already begun arriving. My Blue and Grey Mk 3s are being shipped as I type. Hornby has planned for the LMS/LMR coaches to arrive right as the Duchesses are delivered. They've been delivering coaches within a few weeks of locomotives arriving. There's no reason to expect that to change.

If there was one Accurascale locomotive I would be interested in seeing in TT, it would be the Class 55. That's one of the most iconic Accurascale releases. It's a great locomotive that would fit with Hornby TT:120's strong ER presence.

I know that this is highly unlikely, but I would instantly purchase one.

yes a 55 would be amazing, like you say fits in really well with transition era Eastern stuff Hornby are doing
