  1. My ones have just arrived and am just giving the first one a run in, it's quite whiney and squeeky so had a look inside to see no oil or grease. All lubed up now for further running in but may be worth having a quick gander inside to check yours. Other than that what a lovely loco, very impressive livery application and glad they have darkened the Longmoor Blue down.
  2. The photo is in Longmoor Military Railway volume 2
  3. Definitely Gordon and Longmoor for me, just need to finish the coaches I have for the LMR and source a LSWR invalid saloon
  4. Really looking forward to this one, an 01 has been on the list for a while and the lack of painting skills I have for fully lined SECR has always stopped me from trying any kit of it. I wonder if this makes the SECR the first company to have all of their preserved locomotives available in one way or another ready to run. With the C - D - H - Ps - N and now the 01 it would be interesting to know for sure.
  5. Aha thank you for that, touch wood they would have picked up on it then. If not I'll get the paint out :D For the big railguns (13.5' + 18') they used some Southern Diesels and the LMS jackshaft ones as they were down by the coast. The 13.5 guns being all down by Dover and the 18' up by Bishopsbourne. The smaller guns such as 9' were sometimes pulled the Pannier fitted Dean Goods of which there is a few good videos in 'the home front war years' series of railway DVDs, 1944-45 being the one with the railway guns in.
  6. I've put my order in before all the Longmoor ones sell out, very glad to be having a proper Class 11 instead of the Bachmann 08. In regards to the Longmoor one will the front steps be painted black and the axle springs blue (or black, hard to tell which one on my photos)
  7. It does look surprisingly similar to the one your SR stock is running on 😆
  8. The new coach pack arrived the other day so I took them down the club for a session with my LSWR locos, they are rather tasty
  9. Hopefully they will have prices soon, there's at least 2 I will have for sure but depending on the price maybe a couple more
  10. Hello, does anyone happen to have a copy of the instructions for the DJH C2X to spare? Thanks all, George
  11. I think at the moment they are only in the magazine, no doubt the website will be updated after the samples have been signed off
  12. They're looking pretty good, couple there I'd definitely have. Lets hope that as they meant to be limited to 300 a piece they won't have a stupidly high price tag, seems like a rather low number to recover the costs of producing it but I shall wait and see.
  13. I have the two Rails grey ones and they are both the same shade, going by the photos on their website one was a lighter shade which I thought would be for Wainwright era and the other darker for the Maunsell era. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable can shed some light for us as it has boggled me
  14. I'm glad there's been an update on these, looking forward to getting a couple when they come out. Going by those samples they will certainly be detailed
  15. I've had to send my one back to Hornby for repairs as it was making a horrible noise, when e-mailed I was told it was a particular model the QC team wanted to look at so it must be a somewhat common issue. Bit of a shame for Christmas but will hopefully be rectified. Lovely looking model though, shame about the trailing pony though, bald wheels and no movement just doesn't look right. I've noticed it on a few newer locos now, strange they did it on the new Merchant Navy when the old one had a pivoting pony. Hope everyone had a great Christmas and have a even better New Year
  16. I reckon another pre-grouping wagon and to fill to void of not having something big a WD 2-10-0 (touch wood)
  17. I've seen pictures of the WW1 tanks loading via the side but not any involving Shermans and Warwells, I believe if they had no ramp wagons they would plan the journey around the use of an end loading dock. There is a video at the IWM that shows Shermans loading this way onto the shorter heavier rated warwells that I can send you a link to if you like.
  18. I believe most Warflat trains had a store van for carrying sleepers (for end loading and chocking), spare chains, re-railing parts and a ramp ladder, can't see why this wouldn't apply to Warwell trains as well. From the pictures I've seen the store vans normally seem to be ferry vans and have numbers painted on them to identify the train it belongs to. Even with a ramp wagon sleepers would have been used to stop them tearing apart the rails when they deploy onto track.
  19. The biggest problem I think would be the big players, if you produce a loco inevitably you would have to make it aware to the community to generate pre-orders and interest which would open the door for another manufacturer to rush one through and torpedo you. That's the setback with producing a locomotive that will compete at their level which is most probably why the more recent manufacturers are producing more niche products with smaller runs.
  20. Hello all, I've just picked up this little beauty but unfortunately it had no instructions with it, does anyone have a set or know where I could locate one? I heard they where affiliated with DJH back in the 80s but after emailing they have no knowledge of the kit. Thank you for looking, George
  21. Thank you, I've never heard of that site before but that does have some great information on it. I'm surprised it has so many of the works visits recorded on there as well, that will be very helpful for a few different projects. Thanks again
  22. Hello all, I'm looking into repainting an A3 and a A4 into wartime black but am just looking for a little more info. I understand that from Nov 1941 the LNER painted their locos black and from July 42 the LNER was shortened to NE but I take it this would only really be when they went it for work/overhaul as it would just be a waste of paint and time. So my question is does anyone know which locos were re-painted black during the war years and if so the name and year or repaint. Or even just the name and date seen in black. Thank you all in advance, I hope this turns up some useful information for everyone to use.
  23. Thank you Tony, that's a great drawing. I will have to keep an eye out for all the big fours wagon books, I did buy a GWR one the other week by J.H.Russell which is full of interesting wagons including the Aero one
  24. That's the bit I'm dreading, but first I need to order some plasticard L profile. Funnily enough I bought one of those wagons a few months back, it was Much Ado About Toys through Dapol if I remember rightly, I quite like the well wagon they produced with the anchor. Those models are great, after I have a crack at the GWR wagon I will try the LMS one as I have a couple of pictures to go by. I never knew the SR transported them as well, I'll have to hunt down some pictures of them.
  25. Well I'm onto my next wartime project now which will be a GWR Aero wagon, the Great Western first produced these in 1938 and then during the war produced another three batches totalling around 170 in all. Having finally found a drawing I can roughly go by to get the sizes I have started with scratch building the crate from plasticard. Below is the finished crate apart from a missing strap round the bottom, for now it will live in primer as I may have a go at making a mould and producing some so I can make a few wagons in one go. Now I'm just working on the supports and then to find a suitable donor underframe. I have also attached a picture of the one at Didcot I took the other week, this one is only however a rough mockup and is built slightly differently to drawing I have and the pictures I have seen.
