  1. well it doesn't fill me with confidence when 50% of Hornby's website description has been "Inspired" *cough* from a certain well known website... That coupled with the fact that they have fluffed up the listings on the original graphics, not to mention  there are no actual photos of even an early CAD.

The flirts, while a great thing to me, scream "quick, let's shove this announcement out of the door". They haven't even decided running numbers yet?

A rtr model of "Ring Haw" which was sister loco to "Jacks Green" at Nassington appears to be an exclusive available from one retailer. I found out about it through word of mouth, not RMweb (which was odd?), so posting a link here:

    https://hardyshobbies.co.uk/shop/partners/rapido/rapido-trains-16-hunslet-ring-haw-hardys-hobbies-exclusive/

No affiliation, other than suggesting this model would be a good move a few pages ago... :mocking_mini:

    Paul A.

Pre ordered mine, one of only 120 so I don't think they will be around long! This went live yesterday and already half of the pre orders have gone, so if you want a model to go perfectly with Jacks Green or just want a RTR north Norfolk resident (Which I believe this model is the first not counting Black Prince) I would say get moving sharpish!

This one also apparently comes with unpainted crew and bag of real coal which is something the main range doesn't offer. Perhaps this could be sold by rapido as an optional extra?

The serif E in the first photo looks suspiciously as if it came from a transfer set for the initials LNER. (From the previous description I'd been expecting to see a Gill Sans E.) Are there any other known instances of stocks of LNER transfers being used up in this way?

i too was expecting a Gill Sans E... It must have been nicked from a spare transfer sheet as i cant see BR replicating the LNER style for a lowly branch coach!

They were last used on the Tollesbury branch until 1951 when they and the passenger service on that branch were withdrawn. They remained in LNER livery with only a letter E transfer in front of the number. The E was in a completely different style to the number.

Got any photos of the mismatched numbering?
Digital Traction are making a virtual model of the Wisbech coach and are interested in including this livery if we have reference.

Crimson would be nice, but if there is a GER or LNER in-service version, I would vote for GE coach brown, to go with a blue and brown C53.

    In summary:

    - GER Coach Brown, 1884-1892 - FIRST - SECOND composite

    - GER Coach Brown, 1892-c.1919* - FIRST - THIRD Composite

    - GER Crimson, c.1919-1923 - FIRST - THIRD Composite

    - LNER Coach Brown, 1923-1927

    * Presumably with a change in the initials from 1903.

I was just wondering about liveries of the Tramcoaches! I assumed they were painted teak before 1919, as that was supposedly the norm. Just out of curiosity did the 2 bogies receive BR maroon or crimson as they both survived until '51, or were they withdrawn still in LNER guise.

Or C53, as some of us persist in thinking of it.

Why not (looks over his shoulder to check that Mr Kohler isn't watching) corner the whole Wisbech & Upwell scene?

    Do  the 4-wheel tramcars, Brake No.16 and G15 0-4-0?

Yes silly me, I should refer to it as C53. saying J70 for those who may not know.

To be quite frank, it would be silly not to do a 4w tramcar and to an extension possibly the G15 as they have a vast amount of adaptable components. Indeed, when working with the company Digital Traction to produce Virtual wisbech coaches, we made the 4 wheel variant and then used the same CAD for the bogie coach, just obviously lengthened!

For another quality april fool prank Rapido should announce the proposed double decker tram coach. Drawings were made but it was never built, essentially it just added a row of open air seating to an existing bogie coach, and it looked utterly mad! I have drawings rapido ;);)

  8. Well our prayers have been answered! Rapido are tooling the W&U Coach for their Titfiled range and I'm sure a Non Licenced Crimson variant could be produced.

    Now A GER J70 pretty please :laugh_mini2:

While im on this subject, i have a vivid memory that artwork was produced for the GE livery and published in a magazine before it was dropped. I Cant find this anywhere, i may be imagining it but if im not can anyone point me where to find it, or better yet have a copy of it?

Have you been able to get the square tender number plate for yours?

I did ask narrow planet when I ordered the cab plates but they said they couldn't do it at the time.

Sadly not. I too asked narrow planet to no avail.

I later found someone who agreed to 3d print one for me, but, after provididng the reference he needed to design it, he never got back to me :laugh_mini2:

oh well, I shall probably design and 3d print one myself soon when i get my 3d printer working. If its successful do you want one for yours?

Just to say I've had one of the Hornby J15 backdated to GER Y14 livery.

Paint and lining was by Warren Haywood. Chimney and safety valve are Alan Gibson parts. Number plates were from Narrow planet.

And yes, I know the side rails on the tender should be removed however I'm not skilled enough to remove these without butchering an otherwise very nice model!

    Snap!

So you were the other chap Warren repainted a Y14 for, I'm the other! Exact same job from him, with the exception of Phoenix cast parts instead of Alan Gibson ones.

I have the same issue of the tender raves. I think i may bite the bullet soon and attempt to get rid of them. Will post here if i do!

Heres also a picture of it with my other NNR resident, the considerably easier (and cheaper!) one to recreate, B12 8572.

  11. Hey Brian,

Many thanks for taking the time to run this poll in your spare time, it gives a really fascinating insight into what people in this hobby want.

On a side note, I'm so glad to see my personal votes (the E4 and J69) ranking higher than i ever thought they would... bring on the model of them!

Although I'm not sure who id want producing them... Hornby seems to never want to produce GE locos in GE colours, and bachmans price point is getting increasingly higher every year... Mabie oxford? lol

  12. Evening all,

In my continued saga of trying to modify a BR MK1 to a preserved example: Namely RBR E1969 on the North Norfolk Railway, Ive decided to start attacking the under frame, to convert the supplied Bachmann one. However, I've stumbled a little, I need help identifying these 2 parts on the underframe, what are they, and more importantly where can I get castings for these parts?

    Regards,

    Brad.

You may not be very happy with your results, but at least you are giving it a go, kudos to you.

Maybe trying on a scrap/cheap coach and asking the assembled expertise hereabouts how to go about things might improve your standards and save some money into the bargain.

I won't embarrass anyone, but I can think of a couple of coach bodgers rebuilders who would point you in the right direction.

    Mike.

Ive already attempted window infilling on a Lima Mk1 RBR and I really wasn't happy. I followed YouTube tutorials and other guides, to no avail. if you could name these coach rebuilders id love to get in touch with them.

    Brad.

  14. Good Evening.

Im writing today to ask if any of you know somebody (individual or company)who could undertake a slight modification and repaint of a Bachmann MK1 RU to a RBR. I can give more details if required, The main job would just be the infilling of windows on the Kitchen side and the filling of two windows and subsequently re-cutting one new one on the Corridor side. this is because I'm replicating a particular preserved MK1, E1969 on the North Norfolk Railway. other than that, all that i would require is a repaint from BR Maroon to BR Crimson / Cream, with the Number E1969 Applied, and finally just a very subtle weathering matching the prototype.

    Some photos:

What needs to be done corridor side: 2 Windows infilled and a small window recut in the middle

what needs to be done Kitchen side: several windows infilled and one door infilled

im very grateful if anyone can point me in the direction of people who can do this work, as I've tried myself but I'm not happy with my attempt.

    Regards,

    Brad.

  15. He sort of is doing one, but in steam railmotor guise for Kernow, but I agree a good model autocoach for per nationalisation would go with the 14xx or Bachmann 64xx

Yeh, as my layout is set in 1940, I cannot have the Hawksworth Autocoach, and the Hornby/Dapol/Airfix one hasn't been avalible fro quite some time... I'm trying not to delve into the secondhand market if possible, as I've had bad experiences with it.

Cheers for replying, I'd thought I'd be the only one to like this idea xD

  16. I know it might be a bit to ask Dave, as you already have quite the backlog, but could you possibly do a new GWR Autocoach. Not to the hawksworth design like Bachmann, but the earlier version of the Autocoach (sorry I'm not sure of the name), To the same design as the old Hornby one but to the same standard as the Hawksworth Bachmann one. It would compliment your recently released 14xx, (BTW I have one on order ;) but it would go with the GWR liveried 14/48/58xx's, where as you can leave the Bachmann ones for your BR- liveried 14xx's. I have suggestions for 2 possible liverys, but you would be sure to find more :)

    GWR chocolate & cream

GWR Wartime plain chocolate (it was a real livery, and it would compliment your wartime black 48xx superbly)

    Thanks for reading,

    Brad

  17. I am curious about which classes of GWR locos were re-painted for WW2 and what colours that would have been repainted to? I know that the 38xx were painted wartime-black (from a picture on Wikipedia).

Would there have been circumstances where, for example, a Grange would not have been re-painted in wartime-black during the hostilities? A side question of mine is is a Grange with the shirtbutton in 1947 believable?

Hey, First Post For Me, but I hope I have some useful info for you!

I know That at least one 48xx (14xx) was repainted into GWR wartime black No. 4807 I have no photos, but how I know is DJ Models is peroducing a 48xx in That livery! I'm definenly getting one for myself as I'm modelling a GWR Branchline in 1941! Perfect.

Also, idk if it helps but I also know at least one Autocoach was repainted in plain GWR Chocolate for WW2. Cannot remember the number, but one is selling on eBay for £60! Myself, I'm going to have one, but instead going to modify an existing airfix Vehicle

    Thanks for reading,

    Brad.
