  1. And I thought it was a project to build a diesel depot to rival BarrowRoad's steam shed.
  2. I did mine with Wickes Paintbrush Cleaner, the blue stuff, and flushed with soapy water. This was AFTER stripping it all down, obviously. And none was used anywhere NEAR the motor. Every part was then either greased on moving surfaces, or sprayed and rubbed over with WD40 on exposed surfaces.
  3. One through Scunny around 12.30 today, on empty tanks, heading towards Immingham. Couldn't see the number as I was driving over a road bridge, and got but a brief glimpse, but the livery LOOKED like 60040.
  4. I've only ever used one carbide tip tool, bought tyo make a thread. It broke early in the process. Never again, total waste of money.
  5. The trouble with this model is that the more I see of it, the more I WISH i'd seen it in real life. That workshop, at right angles to the rest of the shed, must have been fascinating..........
  6. Wow...........the ill-fated "Solario", first one to be withdrawn. Gone even before I got my first "Combine". Spent quite some time at Leicester GC.
  7. Thanks for that Bertie-dog, I'll look into buying one.
  8. Unfortunately, that one looks A LOT like the one RDG tools withdrew from sale. At least two others are still selling the same tool on e-bay, so I'm loathe to buy unless sure.......
  9. Maybe. The collet chuck for the lathe looks like this: (was going to post a pic but the e-bay sale has ended. Anyway, it has no taper, but a flange with three bolt holes, it would seem to be turned out of a piece of solid bar.
  10. Thanks for that, Bertie, I'll look into Chronos for a parting tool then. The collet chuck that came with the mill was different to the one for the lathe, which fits to the spindle with three bolts, like the chucks do. The mill one fit on a taper. Probably a Morse? Sorry, double post. Can't find which one of those you mean, they go from £14 to £8..........
  11. Bertie: my lathe is an Emco Compact 5. The only tools I have for it, apart from metric drills, are a set of 1/4" tool-steel ground tools, l/h, r/h and end, made for me by a friend I used to work with, (ie: ground to shape). They work, but need to be shimmed up to centre height. I'll try and take measurements off the lathe, like what size tool will fit, and the clearances you mentioned on the drawing, tonight, once the loft has cooled down a bit. I'll also try and further identify the milling machine, but I do know it has a co-ordinate table with it. I have a collet chuck and full set of 25mm collets, but no LATHE collet chuck although there is one on e-bay at £56 at the moment. I could also do with a fine feed attachment for the milling machine, it has just a lever at the moment, like a pillar drill, which it greatly resembles. It also has a decent 0-10mm keyed chuck for drilling etc. Thanks.
  12. Right, here's a question. At the moment, I don't even have a parting-off tool. (I use a hacksaw blade held on the rotating piece with enough pressure to cut it, then face it off if necessary..........and yes, I know it's dangerous ) I've oredered one off e-bay wityh an inserted blade, only to have the seller cancel as he's stopping selling them after having too much trouble with faulty items. I've found others and e-mailed the seller to see if it will fit my lathe, but don't understand his reply. Here's the item: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350343469663&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT and this is what he said to my question: Please measure from where the tool sits in your toolpost to the centre of the chuck so i can check your capacity. I asked if he meant from bottom of tool rest to centre height, and he replied: Sorry no, on your toolpost when you put your turning tools in this i need to know from where the tool sits to the centre of the lathe. I STILL don't understand what he means:blink: Since my tool post MOVES on a cross slide, won't this value be meaningless? I've also seen these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250651033502&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT Can someone advise? Thanks.
  13. Just had a look here: http://www.lathes.co.uk and it's very disappointing. I wanted to look at what they had to say about the Compact 5, but it's all about the Compact 8, the 5 gets a 2-line mention Also, the milling machine I have doesn't even get mentioned :( The only thing I've ever used the milling machine for is accurate drilling, I don't even own an end mill and wouldn't know where to start, or what type to buy.
  14. Interesting stuff, Bertie, do you know anything about the Emco Compact 5 and it's associated milling machine and seperate co-ordinate table?
  15. A lad I know who is a turner by trade says 3-jaw chucks are fit for the bin He reckons use a 4-jaw for accuracy.
  16. It must be lovely to do something like this, take your time, and work on a long project. Nice modelling, as always.
  17. I can recommend Barnack Uk at Stamford, they do tools and bits for the Emco range. Available on e-bay.
  18. Interesting, the doors look like French windows, and don't look large enough to admit a loco.
  19. We saw a pile of it's streamlined casing on the scrapline at Doncaster in 1960. The works guide confirmed it was from the Hush-Hush. Quite sad.
  20. Nice to know I'm not going crackers. That was the THIRD weird thing to happen in under a week.
  21. That's weird...........I'm sure the first time I looked, it was a Britannia
  22. Very nice. Do you also have the sole A1/1, 60113, Great Northern?

    Fuel storage.

Quite good. Is it a kit? Or scratch? Did fuel tanks have offices so close in real life?
