  9. We are pleased to announce we are working with Rapido to produce exclusive SECR 12 Ton 7 Plank Mineral Wagon Packs in OO Gauge! Between 1913 and 1914 the SECR purchased a number of wagons from RY Pickering. These wagons were built to move coal and were at the time were primarily used by Willam Cory & Son (Coal Factors) based in Erith. These wagons carried a variety of liveries - Wainwright light grey with small SECR lettering and black metalwork, all over Maunsell dark SECR grey with large lettering and also standard SR pre-1936 brown. We are pleased to offer these wagons for the first time in 4mm OO gauge. These wagons are produced by Rapido using their latest RCH 7 plank open wagon tooling featuring both side and end doors, angled vee-hangers, double sided brakes, flat-fronted axleboxes and split-spoked wheels. Although not all minor detail differences can be captured with this tooling, these wagons will be as close a representation of the SECR wagons as possible and will fit perfectly with the new SECR brake vans – particularly our exclusive single-veranda types. Packs of 3 are available to pre-order now for £99.95 (No deposit required) The wagons are currently in production. The current expected delivery date is Late 2023 / early 2024. (Subject to change) Read more here
  10. Hi, The doors do not open on the Sonic Models version. They do open on the Rapido version
  11. Hi Steven, Sonic actually produced the N Gauge Society's N Gauge version and yes research, design and development ran parallel on both the N and OO version.
  12. We are aware it wasn't long ago that another manufacturer (Rapido Trains UK) released this model in OO gauge. However, unfortunately Sonic were already well underway with their project and couldn't cancel the production. They therefore made the decision to let Rapido sell through before announcing theirs, hence the reason the models are in stock and available now.
  13. NEW ANNOUNCEMENT Sonic Models have today announced their next N gauge model. The Newton Chambers Car Transporter Triple Packs Available in both the Eastern Region BR Maroon and BR Motorail Blue/Grey liveries. There are six packs available to pre-order in total, three in BR maroon and three in BR Blue/Grey. Each car in each pack features a unique running number. Other features include: Fully detailed prototypical bodies including original and later style roof sky lights NEM Couplings combined with a kinematic close coupling system Ends with buffer beam original detail and later ETH equipment Correct size RP 25 profile bogie wheels Livery schemes for BR Maroon and BR Blue Grey Models supplied in sets of three in a bespoke box The packs are available to pre-order exclusively from Rails of Sheffield. PRE-ORDER HERE Each triple pack is priced at just £124.95 You can pre-order now with a £25 deposit. The models are currently in production and delivery is expected late 2023. History Originally designated as TCVs, the vehicles later became NVV (vacuum braked) and NVX (dual braked) under BR’s TOPS computer system. Unusually, they featured a hydraulically operated central well capable of storing two cars as well as four cars on the upper deck – a 50% increase in capacity over more conventional car carrying vehicles of the time. When introduced in the early-1960s, the TCV car transporters were used between London, York and Edinburgh in sets of five or six vehicles with a handful of BR maroon Mk1 coaches, hauled by ex-LNER ‘Pacifics’ and later BR green ‘Deltics’, Class 40s, 45s, 46s or 47s. From the late-1960s onwards, they were painted in BR blue/grey and started to venture further afield on ‘Motorail’ services from London and northern England to the West of England, being hauled by Class 45s, 46s, 47s and ‘Westerns’. However, they were closely associated with the East Coast Main Line throughout their career.

Brief History: After 1901 the D class locomotive fast became the mainline locomotive of choice on the south coast, (making the SE&CR’s first mainline express formation) further (for the time) powerful locomotives were investigated by the companies. After Richard Maunsell took the reigns from Harry Wainwright in 1913 he worked on a series of new locomotives which were intended for a long service life, this involved the conversion and upgrade of 11 E class locomotives, resulting in the E1 class. This proved very successful and led directly to the conversion of 21 D class into the D1 class between 1921 and 1927. Though arguably, not as elegant as the D class equipped with a larger boiler, a belpaire firebox and longer travel cylinders the D1 was able to produce a considerable haulage and power increase over its predecessors. Initially allocated to Ashford shed, this class was to be found all over the south-eastern division from London to the south. Withdrawn in November 1961, no preserved examples exist. Specification: Technical Specification • Diecast Chassis • Low centre of gravity located between the driving wheels • NEM couplings with removable coupling pocket • Sprung buffers • R2 (438mm/17.2”) minimum radius • Pickup from tender and driving wheels • Powerful 5 pole motor located within boiler • Pull-out PCB for tool free DCC & Speaker fitting. • ‘Snap-fit’ conductive tender drawbar • Options for bass reflex speaker in tender (pre-wired) • Firebox glow • Profiled wheels • Detailed motion • Removable coal load with internal tender profiling • Fully detailed back-head and cab interior. • Back by Dapol’s comprehensive warranty and service Variations (dependent on model represented) • Two frame variations (to include early D class conversions) • Two cab types • Two Chimney types • Two Smokebox types • Three dome types (with/without top feed and plated) • Two safety valve types (Ross-pop and Ramsbottom) • With and without snifter valves • ‘High capacity’ tenders • Manual and automatic lubricators • Additional minor detail variations Please note: Production is well advanced and the number of models being produced is limited, so pre-ordering is highly recommended. The images shown are of early decorated production samples and are NOT final production models. Various amendments and alterations have been reported and will be altered on final production models. The decorated samples will be in display this weekend at the Model Rail Scotland exhibition.

  24. Over the last few months we have been working hard and renovating our main store. This has included a total shop refit. We are excited to show you a glimpse of inside to let you see how it's coming along.... With the exception of a few minor tweaks the refit in complete. We will soon commence on merchandising the showroom with the hope to reopen this side of the store at the beginning of August. This showroom will be home to a vast amount of products for all your model railway and modelling needs! Situated right next to our Emporium showroom (which is now open) that houses all locomotives and rolling stock, we feel that once the new showroom is open Rails will be a destination well worth a visit! We will keep you updated throughout July with how the showroom is coming along and we look forward to welcoming you all to the reopening in the near future. The Rails Team
