  1. Still massively on the fence about getting this, on one hand it’s been on the top of my wishlist for years now but I’ll probably have to sell a few things to afford it including my prized XC 220.
The original releases seemed to be discounted at 20% as they didn’t sell too well 2nd time round (and that was when the RRP was at £350!).
Will have to make my mind up whether to take the 10% discount now or wait and maybe take my chances and see if they discount it at 20% at the LTM if they become stagnant (which I can see being likely).

Paints were just generic red yellow blue from somewhere, probably Humbrol.

Looked up in my emails what I had from Fox Transfers, this is what I think I used:

    Mainline Freight Logos/Numbering/Data Panels Class 58 & 60 locos

    REF NOF2913/2

    Scale 2mm/N

They are 9x14.5mm in size, as opposed to the 8x13 I measured off the Heljan printing in the wrong place. I went through these in quite a lot of detail with Fox to try and understand which the best option was and we concluded this is what it was.

Thank you for all your help, I’ve just recently finished mine. Transfers went on ok-ish (a bit wonky) and I was a bit too generous with glue for the nameplates and managed to tear the box halfway through (perfect!). Other than that I think it’s gone quite well.

I contacted Fox about making a darker shade of Spitfire plates and had new variants shipped on my doorstep in less than 24 hours!

Finally for under frame detail painting I managed to employ my younger sister with much steadier hands to do it for me! 😅

  3. Hi everyone, I’ve managed to try some things out and fixed this myself. It turned out to be the gearboxes (?) rubbing against the cab interiors. I recommend you carefully take off the bodyshell and have a look around to see where it’s rubbing and if appropriate, file down.

  4. Hi everyone,

Last month I purchased one of the 2020 Heljan Class 33s '33063'. I ran it in for about half an hour in each direction and noticed that at slower speeds and round some corners (3rd radius) the motor appeared to 'croak' a bit. This caused the locomotive to stutter a bit at slower speeds but I didn't think much of it at the time. I then took a break from the hobby for a month and came back to discover the problem again which annoyed me this time round. I've added etched nameplates and shedplates meaning I'm not entirely sure I could send it back (I got it from Hattons).

I'm wondering if anyone else has had any similar problems or if anyone has any ideas on what could be causing the problem? I've tried running it in different directions and different speeds and it occurs randomly with no set speed or area where it occurs.

    Thank you in advance,

    Thomas

Here is my attempt at 33063 as preserved.

    1. I had to remove the Mainline logo on both sides with T cut and replace with transfers. This is because on the side in the top pic Heljan have put the logo in the wrong place as discussed before

    2. I was over zealous with the T cut so had to try and cover back over with paint. Neither Phoenix or Railmatch were perfect matches so I had to mix a bit. Applied with a brush (not ideal I know).

    3. Transfers are not the right shade and not quite the right size but better than being inconsistent or being in the wrong place. Transfers were for an N gauge loco as they didnt do them for a OO 33.

    4. Again over zealous with the gloss varnish. I wanted to try gloss as they are generally very shiny in preservation, but the thickness has messed the colour up slightly. I concentrated on the sides so that the roof kept a more matted look.

    5. Nameplates, BR plates and depot plates are from Fox, the Spitfire plate needed painting in a darker blue

    6. Bogie details painted as per prototype.

    Criticisms

    1. My painting, need to get better in terms of masking etc. I found if I masked it the paint formed an edge where the tape was hence why I tired with a steady hand.

    2. Not waiting to get some fine wet and dry to make the finish better where I painted

    3. Too much varnish, not perfectly even and I did also catch one or two bits of fluff under it.

    4. Plates and transfers not quite the right size but good enough, I am happy with them

    5. Painted over the black window surrounds by accident, when I get some black paint I may put that right although I aren't too concerned about it now.

One day I might try and improve on it but I am happy enough with it for my first attempt at "modelling".

    Hi there.

I began the endeavour of starting my own 33063 last week! I've managed to fit all of the nameplates (rather crudely since it is my first modelling project) but have just discovered the livery error and thankfully your thread. Can I please ask what transfers you used for the Mainline livery and the paints used for the bogie detail. Thank you!
